Chapter 311 Jessica Learns the Truth About That Night
Even though she thought she was ready, standing in front of that door made her heart feel like it weighed a ton.
She felt like she couldn't breathe, her throat tightening up.
She took a deep breath, reached out, and pushed the door open.
Inside, Jack was sitting at his desk.
The moment he saw Jessica, he got up and rushed over, looking worried. "Hey, are you okay? I've been trying to find you all day. I called you a bunch of times, but you never picked up."
Jessica looked up, her eyes cold and sharp. "Why are you looking for me? I don't need your pity, and I definitely don't need your apology. Jack, let me make this clear; no matter how sorry you are, I will never forgive you."
She slammed an envelope down on Jack's desk.
"A resignation letter?" Jack's eyes widened when he saw what it was.
He was stunned, staring at Jessica in disbelief. "Quit? I thought working here was your dream. Why are you leaving all of a sudden?"
"Sudden?" Jessica's eyes were full of anger.
She scoffed, "Jack, I thought you were a decent guy, someone with high medical ethics, but you're just a fraud. That night..."
The memory cut through her like a knife. "You knew who I was. I told you I was Jessica, that I had a boyfriend, but you didn't care."
"Someone as shameless as you, I'm going to make sure the law deals with you. You've wrecked my life, but I won't let you do this to anyone else."
"I'll fight for justice, no matter what."
She pulled out her phone.
Jack, finally catching on, stepped forward and snatched the phone from her hand. "What do you think you're doing?"
"Of course, calling the cops to arrest you." Jessica's eyes burned with hatred.
Jack smirked, "You don't even know what happened and you want to call the cops? Aren't you worried they'll charge you with making a false report?"
"I know very well."
Jack sneered, "Know well? You don't even know if I touched you, and you dare say you know well?"
Jessica froze, "What did you just say?"
She started to think back. That night, after hitting the wall, she blacked out.
When she woke up, she was in a light nightgown, and he was lying not far away, wrapped in a blanket.
She had been so scared and confused, everything in the room made her think the worst had happened.
But now, thinking it over...
She realized she might have missed some important details.
Like, if something really happened, why was she still in a nightgown?
And besides the bruises on her neck and arms, there were no other injuries.
When she ran out of the hotel, she didn't feel any discomfort.
That day, she was so overwhelmed by the sadness of thinking she'd been violated that she didn't really think it through.
Now, calming down, it all started to make sense.
Especially after hearing what Jack just said, it felt like a drop of sweet dew had fallen into her previously withered heart.
Suddenly, her heart felt alive again, beating with new energy and strength.
Like a ray of sunlight breaking through, Jessica, after her initial shock, looked at Jack with tears of excitement. "Is everything you said true? Did nothing really happen between us? You didn't do those terrible things to me?"
Jack looked at her and asked, "If nothing happened, will you still resign?"
Jessica, crying, shook her head. "I won't resign."
"Good." Jack nodded. "Then I can seriously and responsibly tell you that after you passed out, I also passed out. Nothing happened between us. As for why we were in that state when we woke up, I don't know. But I can tell you, I didn't do anything inappropriate to you. Now, do you still want to call the cops and have me arrested?"
Jessica shook her head, overjoyed.
She had thought her life was ruined, completely destroyed by him.
She didn't expect such a turn of events; she was so happy, truly ecstatic.
"Thank you, Jack; thank you for telling me the truth."
At this moment, she wanted to go home and hug Gabriel.
She wanted to seriously tell him, 'Gabriel, nothing happened. I am still me, and I am still your one and only Jessica.'
She even wanted to tell him loudly, 'Gabriel, this time, let's be together properly.'
Taking out her phone, Jessica realized that Gabriel had called her dozens of times.
Not only missed calls but also numerous messages from him on Facebook.
[Jessica, where did you go? I know you want some time alone, and I'll give you that, but at least tell me where you are. Let me know you're safe, okay?]
[Jessica, I'm sorry. Seeing you cry so sadly, I didn't dare to speak and ask too much. I was afraid of hurting you. I didn't even dare to promise "I don't mind" because I was afraid you'd think my words were insincere.]
[But now I know I was wrong. Jessica, I need to tell you for sure that I want you, just you. No matter what you've been through, you are my love and the person I want to spend my life with.]
[Jessica, come back, okay?]
[I love you. I'll be home all day waiting for you, no matter when you come back.]
Seeing these messages, tears streamed down Jessica's face.
It turned out he did love her.
She had just misunderstood.
Now, she couldn't wait to go back to him.
But, whether he minded or not, since her innocence had been proven, she would tell him the whole truth.
From now on, she didn't want this matter to become a barrier between them.
So, she had to explain it clearly.
And having Jack explain the situation was the best way.
Maybe only this way could she really resolve the doubts and misunderstandings in his heart.
Thinking of this, Jessica immediately wiped her tears and looked at Jack, asking, "Dr. Smith, can you do me a favor?"
