Chapter 488 Knowing Grandma Was Hospitalized
Jessica was immediately stunned, feeling a stabbing pain in her chest.
But on the surface, she still smiled faintly, "Yeah, your dad will be just as happy as you are."
Freddy blinked and asked again, "Mommy, Dad has been gone for several days. When is he coming back?"
"Your dad will be back soon."
With a lump in her throat, Jessica could only say this.
"But I miss Dad so much, Mommy. Can we video call him and tell him the good news?"
Hearing this, Jessica's heart skipped a beat.
Almost visibly, her face turned pale in an instant.
"Freddy, there's a time difference."
"Mommy, what's a time difference?"
"A time difference means that while it's daytime here, it's nighttime where your dad is. So, your dad is probably still sleeping, and if we video call him now, we'll wake him up."
Although a bit disappointed, Freddy nodded, "Okay, then let's call him when it's daytime for both of us."
"Alright," Jessica nodded.
Jessica barely managed to get through that topic.
But then Gilbert's words made Jessica feel troubled again.
"Mommy, what's wrong with Grandpa and Grandma? Grandma said she would bring us food and pick us up but forgot, and neither she nor Grandpa came home last night."
"Gilbert and Freddy, do you miss Grandpa and Grandma?"
"Yes, of course," Gilbert and Freddy nodded simultaneously.
Jessica looked at them, having an intense internal struggle.
Should she tell them about Danielle's accident?
If Gilbert and Freddy knew, they would be very sad and cry a lot.
But if she didn't tell them, how long could she keep it a secret?
Knowing Jessica's dilemma, Chelsea stepped forward, holding Gilbert and Freddy's hands, and said, "Your mom is a bit tired. Let's let her and the baby rest well. You can come back to see her tomorrow, okay?"
Although reluctant, Gilbert and Freddy looked at Jessica and nodded.
"Okay, Mommy, you rest well. We'll come back after school tomorrow to keep you company."
Jessica gently stroked their cheeks, full of reluctance, "You should be well-behaved and listen to Aunt Chelsea these days, okay?"
"Okay, Mommy, you just take care of yourself and the baby. We've grown up now and will take care of ourselves."
After Gilbert and Freddy left, Jessica called Jonah.
"Dad, Gilbert, and Freddy came to the hospital today. They asked about Mom and you. I'm conflicted; I don't know whether to tell them."
There was silence on the other end.
Jonah looked at Danielle on the bed and frowned.
Finally, he sighed, "Your mom's condition can't be hidden for long."
The meaning was clear; it had to be told eventually.
"Okay, Dad, I understand."
Thinking about Jonah's condition these past few days, Jessica couldn't help but feel a bit heartbroken, "Dad, you've been at the hospital for days. If you keep this up, your body won't hold up."
"I know you want to stay by Mom's side, but you need to take care of yourself to keep watching over her."
"Alright, I understand. I won't let myself collapse. In a few days, we'll transfer to a private hospital with better facilities, and I'll stay there with your mom."
"Okay."
The next day, as soon as Freddy and Gilbert finished school, Chelsea brought them to the hospital.
Seeing them, Jessica smiled.
Gilbert hurriedly unzipped his backpack, took out a juice box, and carefully handed it to Jessica, "Mommy, here, this is your favorite juice!"
Jessica looked at it, feeling tears well up in her eyes.
Fortunately, she had two such well-behaved and sensible sons; otherwise, how could she get through these difficult and dark times?
Seeing Jessica frozen, Gilbert quickly reacted.
He took back the juice, inserted the straw, and then handed it to Jessica, "Mommy, I put the straw in for you. Drink up."
"Okay," Jessica responded.
But as soon as she took a sip, the moment the juice spread in her heart, she couldn't hold back.
She quickly turned around, covering her mouth forcefully to keep herself from crying.
It wasn't until she adjusted her emotions that she turned back around.
"Mommy, is it good?"
"It's delicious. It's the best juice I've ever had."
Seeing Jessica smile, Freddy and Gilbert were relieved.
"Gilbert, Freddy, I have something to tell you about your grandma. You've been wondering why you haven't seen her for two days, right?"
"Yes, Mommy, where did Grandpa and Grandma go?"
"Actually..." Jessica choked up and tried hard to hold back her tears and continued, "It's because your grandma had an accident. She's sick and is in the hospital for treatment, so she couldn't pick you up. But you must know that your grandma loves you very much."
"Where's Grandma? We want to see her," Freddy and Gilbert immediately asked anxiously.
"Then promise me, you have to be quiet and not disturb your grandma, okay?"
"Okay."
Chelsea took them to Danielle's ward and said, "Your grandma is inside, and your grandpa is there too. You can go in and see her."
Gilbert and Freddy immediately pushed the door open and ran in.
When they saw Danielle lying on the bed with an oxygen mask on, they were stunned.
After a while, they turned to look at Jonah.
Freddy, with tears in his eyes, asked, "Grandpa, Grandma will get better, right?"
"Yes," Jonah said affirmatively.
"Does Grandma hurt? Can she hear us?"
Jonah couldn't bear to tell the truth, so he nodded, "Of course, your grandma can hear us."
Freddy and Gilbert each grabbed one of Danielle's hands.
They started talking about the fun things that happened at school.
In the past, they had to tell these stories when Danielle picked them up from school.
"Grandma, you used to pick us up. Now, we'll come to the hospital to keep you company."
"Grandma, you used to tell us stories to put us to sleep. From now on, we'll tell you stories, okay?"
Perhaps because they suddenly learned about Danielle's accident, Gilbert and Freddy couldn't accept it.
They didn't want to leave until ten at night.
Finally, Chelsea said, "Even if you want to tell more stories, your grandma is tired and needs to rest."
So, Gilbert and Freddy followed Chelsea out of the room.
At the door, Gilbert and Freddy couldn't hold back anymore. They hugged Chelsea and started crying loudly.
