Chapter 586 Searching for the Truth 1

"Mr. Price, this matter is too peculiar, and it's closely related to my friend, so I must get to the bottom of it."

Isaac's fingers tapped rhythmically on the table a few times. After pondering for a moment, he nodded.

"Alright, since it's so important to you, I'll have someone at the police station look into it for you tomorrow. Wait for my news."

"Okay, thank you, Mr. Price."

Isaac reached out and patted Vincent's upright posture, suddenly feeling a wave of nostalgia.

"Even though your father has been gone for so many years, we had such a good relationship back then. This is just a small matter, not worth mentioning."

"Mr. Price, I won't disturb you any longer. You go ahead with your work."

"Alright, I'll have someone see you out."

After Vincent left, Isaac immediately closed the study door and locked it.

Next, he quickly drew all the curtains.

After everything was set, Isaac took out his phone and dialed a number.

"Hello, it's me!" Isaac lowered his voice. "Where are you now? Is it a good time to talk?"

"At home, it's fine. Go ahead."

Isaac then cautiously began to speak, "It's been over twenty years. I thought we had hidden this matter well, but today, someone suddenly started investigating you."

"Investigating me?" Ulysses on the other end of the line was extremely surprised, his hand trembling slightly as he held the phone.

"What exactly is going on? Who's investigating me?"

"It's Patrick's son, Vincent. When Vincent was born, you had already assumed this identity and completely started a new life, so, normally, you don't know," Isaac said.

Ulysses' heavy voice came through the phone, "Why did he suddenly investigate me?"

"I probed Vincent's intentions. He said it was to help a friend, but he didn't reveal the specific reason."

Ulysses took a deep breath, "I hope Vincent hasn't noticed anything unusual about Patrick's death."

Isaac was also deeply worried, "I hope so. The reason I called you is to remind you to be extra cautious these days. If necessary, leave the country for a while and come back later."

Ulysses refused, "I have too much going on right now. If I leave, the company's operations will be affected, and many people's efforts will go to waste. I can't waste their efforts for my own sake."

"Ulysses!" Isaac said with concern, "You've always thought too much about others and neglected yourself."

"I regret not sending you abroad back then. Even if it was just to another state, it would have been better."

Ulysses laughed, "I don't regret it. No matter where I am, I'm working for the country. Living a mediocre life isn't enough; I have to achieve something."

Isaac replied, "I don't agree with you on this. Over the years, I've never won an argument with you on this point."

"My biggest worry all these years has been your safety."

"I'm afraid those people will suddenly realize and start investigating what happened back then. After all, the plan was a bit rushed and had its flaws. A thorough investigation will surely reveal some evidence."

"Listen to me, stay at home as much as possible, and always have bodyguards with you when you go out."

"I'm serious, your life was saved by me and my mentor. You must protect yourself."

Isaac spoke at length, full of concern.

His words were repeated over and over again.

"Alright, I've noted everything you said. I'll be extra careful these days."

"Don't be too tense. I've survived for twenty years; I'm already lucky. If I'm discovered, then..."

Before Ulysses could finish, Isaac interrupted, "Don't say something like that. Just remember one thing: My mentor and I saved your life from the brink of death. Now that my mentor is gone, besides me, even you don't have the right to give up."

"Rest assured, I've handled the documents cleanly."

"Take care of yourself. I'm hanging up."

Ulysses nodded, "Alright."

Two days later, Vincent was about to have dinner with Alexis at home.

Before the meal, he suddenly received a call from Isaac.

"Mr. Price, did you find anything?"

"Yes, I found some new information about the person you asked me to investigate. Are you at home? I'll have someone bring it to you."

"Mr. Price, it's too much trouble for you. I'll come over after lunch to get it."

"No trouble at all. I'll have someone bring it over. Just wait at home."

"Alright, thank you, Mr. Price."

Just after lunch, Isaac's person arrived.

Vincent took the folder with both hands and specifically instructed, "Please thank Mr. Price for me. I appreciate his help this time!"

"Alright, Mr. Lucas, I'll convey your message."

With the documents in hand, Vincent eagerly opened them.

Alexis rarely inquired about his work, but since Vincent was accompanying her today, she leisurely sipped her coffee nearby.

After reading all the documents, Vincent was greatly disappointed.

Although there was some new information, it was all about minor cases Ulysses had handled at the police station.

Or some irrelevant matters.

Vincent felt a bit dejected and couldn't help but sigh.

Vincent had been working hard for so long and rarely brought work home. He also seldom felt this frustrated.

So, Alexis paid more attention, "What's wrong? Having trouble at work?"

Vincent shook his head, "Mom, do you remember I told you about Jessica's background? She found her biological father."

Alexis was very happy for her.

"That's good news. Why are you so down?"

"Jessica only has a photo of her parents together. According to our investigation, her father, like mine, was also a police officer, but he died in a car explosion over twenty years ago."

"How could this be? Jessica must be devastated. You should comfort her when you have time. Although she's married, I'm sure her husband isn't a petty person. The concern between friends, as long as it's appropriate and measured, is very valuable."

Vincent sifted through the documents on the table repeatedly but still found nothing new.

Feeling a bit agitated, he took out a cigarette.

Just as he was about to light it, a servant walked over, "Mr. Lucas, Mrs. Lucas has been having a cold these days. It's better not to smoke in front of her."

Vincent immediately put down the cigarette.

Alexis gently said, "It's okay. He's feeling agitated today. Let him smoke one to calm down. My cold is almost better."

Saying this, she handed the lighter to Vincent.

Vincent hesitated to light it.

"It's okay. Your father used to smoke when he was upset. Sometimes, after a cigarette, his thoughts would clear up, and he'd feel much better. Go ahead, the wind is strong today, and the room is well-ventilated."

Vincent lit the cigarette.

As the flame flickered, Alexis' gaze fell on the documents in front of her.
