Chapter 554 Acting
Celia was crying her heart out, clutching Cathy's clothes.
"I beg you, Dr. Daniels, I'm so young, I can't live without children!"
Cathy, though heartbroken, could only sigh and shake her head. "I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do at the moment."
"But I suggest you maintain a good mood and stay optimistic. In medicine, nothing is 100% certain. Our current diagnosis is just that the chances of pregnancy are very low, not that there's no chance at all."
"Maybe there's still some hope left."But everyone knew these words were just for comfort.
Celia kept shaking her head, unable to believe what she was hearing. "Dr. Daniels, is there no way?"
Cathy didn't answer the question again, only advising Celia to take it easy and look after herself.
After Cathy finished her rounds, the ward suddenly dropped into a heavy silence out of nowhere, and no one spoke.
Francis wanted to speak, but his lips moved a few times without knowing what to say.
At that moment, all words and comfort were helpless.
Suddenly, in an unexpected move, Alisha rushed to Francis and started hitting him frantically.
"Francis, you bastard, it's all your fault, you ruined Celia."
"You not only killed the baby in her womb but also made it so she can never be a mother again. Do you know how cruel this is to Celia?"
Celia anxiously shouted, "Mom, let go, let go."
But Alisha didn't let go; instead, she hit even harder.
"Dad, quickly hold Mom back."
Theron took quite a while to finally manage to hold Alisha back.
"Celia, even at this time, you're still protecting him."
"This is all his fault. He should pay for what he did."
Celia, with a flushed face, shouted, "Mom," as she interrupted Alisha.
Perhaps this voice was particularly loud and serious.
Alisha finally calmed down and stopped shouting.
"Mom, calm down."
"Didn't we agree on this? Why are you starting to talk nonsense?"
Alisha was still very emotional. "I'm not talking nonsense."
Alisha turned and looked at Francis. "I'm standing up for Celia and telling you the whole truth."
"Do you know why Celia fell? It wasn't an accident; it was because she found out you went to see Jessica. She was mentally and emotionally overwhelmed, which led to the accident."
"Francis, if it weren't for your entanglement with Jessica, repeatedly hurting Celia, how would she have miscarried? How would Celia lose the chance to be a mother?"
"Tell me, how is Celia supposed to live the rest of her life?"
"Everyone around knows you two are engaged and about to get married. They also knew Celia was pregnant. If you break off the engagement now and abandon Celia, aren't you pushing her to the brink?"
"Celia has already lost the chance to be a mother. She will never have children again. Who would want to marry her now? My poor Celia, your fate is so tragic, your life is completely ruined!"
Alisha's performance was indeed superb.
At least at that moment, Francis stood there, feeling like a weight was crushing his heart.
The weight was so much that Francis could hardly breathe.
At the same time, Francis's heart was filled with deep guilt.
Finally, Francis took heavy steps, one by one, towards the hospital bed.
Just as he was about to speak, Celia beat him to it.
Celia smiled, her face showing a gentle smile. "Francis, don't listen to my mom's nonsense. She's just too heartbroken for me, so she speaks bluntly."
"I know you're also very sad about losing the baby. You're also heartbroken by what I've gone through."
Celia choked up, fighting to keep it together, continuing to smile. "I don't want these things to become your burden. I don't want to get in the way of your choices."
"I said I love you, so I hope for your happiness more than anyone."
"Do you know? Your happiness means more to me than my own. I just want to see you joyful, so please don't feel guilty or burdened."
"No need to say sorry because I never blamed you."
"I never believed in fate, but maybe this is it!"
"Go now, don't say goodbye, or I might cry. You know, I need to recover, and crying isn't good for me."
Francis kept looking at Celia.
He saw the forced smile on Celia's face, her pain, and her reluctance and selflessness.
Celia had lost so much weight that it felt like a gust of wind could blow her away.
Celia's face was pale, without any color.
"I'm sorry, Celia, but…" Francis's voice was particularly low. "I will give you an explanation."
Then, Francis walked out of the hospital with heavy steps.
After a long time, confirming that Francis had left, Alisha worriedly spoke, "Celia, why did he leave? Didn't you say you were confident?"
Celia, sitting on the bed, clenched her hands, full of determination.
"Mom, don't worry, he will come back."
"And I guarantee, Francis will not only not break off the engagement but will also marry me grandly."
Alisha's face lit up with joy. "Are you sure?"
"Of course, after putting in so much effort and acting out such a tragic scene, even if he didn't already feel guilty towards me, no man could bear to leave."
"How do you think I did just now?"
Celia nodded in satisfaction. "Mom, you did great!"
"That's good. As long as you two get married soon, I'll be at ease. It's just…" Alisha's gaze fell on Celia's belly.
Alisha suddenly felt infinite sorrow and pity. "Poor baby in your belly, such an innocent little life, didn't even get to see this world. I always feel…"
Celia quickly interrupted her. "What's there to pity? It was just a bastard child."
"Thanks to this baby, otherwise Francis wouldn't have believed we were engaged. But this baby was always a bastard; I never planned to keep it."
"Mom, you should be happy. We not only won back Francis's heart but also got rid of this trouble."
Alisha sighed and then came to terms with it.
"You're right. After all, it wasn't his baby. If it were born, it would always be a hidden danger, always something to worry about."
Celia spoke proudly. "Of course, in the future, I want a baby with him."
