Chapter 388 Personally Confirming if It's Jessica?
Gabriel covered his face and wept bitterly.
Jessica was gone.
Jessica didn't want him anymore.
These days, he had thought of thousands of pictures of them. He always believed they would grow old together.
Their happiness was supposed to be long-lasting.
He thought he had plenty of time to make it up to her, to love her and their babies properly.
However, the loss happened in an instant.
"Where is she?" Gabriel choked out the question he had been too afraid to face.
Vincent initially didn't want to pay him any attention.
However, when his gaze fell on Gabriel's tear-streaked face and the blood seeping from his body, his heart softened a bit.
Reaching out, he pointed to the room inside. "She's in there. Go in yourself."
With a bitter thank you, Gabriel dragged his body and staggered inside.
The door to the room was tightly shut at the moment.
Gabriel walked over, and when his hand touched the door, it trembled uncontrollably.
He was scared.
Yes, he realized he didn't dare to push open that door.
At this moment, it seemed that as long as he didn't go in and see the most brutal scene, he could continue to deceive himself.
Then Vincent's voice sounded behind him, "What needs to be faced must be faced."
"Whether you go in or not, it won't change anything."
Gabriel knew Vincent was right. Even if he didn't want to face it, the die was cast, and the facts couldn't be changed.
Taking a deep breath, Gabriel still pushed open the door with trembling hands.
The room was very dark.
And it was especially quiet, so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.
The curtains were tightly drawn, not letting in any light.
Reaching out, he turned on the light.
As soon as the light came on, Gabriel suddenly saw the bed inside.
The bed was covered by a white sheet with a slight bulge.
At that moment, he couldn't control himself anymore and ran over like a madman.
Then he collapsed by the bedside.
"Jessica, I'm sorry, I was too late."
Besides this sentence, he suddenly couldn't say anything else.
His whole being was in excruciating pain.
It was as if someone had taken a stone axe and chiseled open his heart, causing it to bleed profusely.
Jessica was right in front of him, within reach, but at this moment, he found himself without the courage.
Suddenly, a thought popped into his mind.
Could it be that everything was fake? Jessica wasn't dead, nor had she left him.
Yes, he didn't believe it. He didn't believe Jessica would be so cruel as to leave him.
Standing up, Gabriel reached out with trembling hands, but the thought in his mind grew stronger: he had to see for himself.
Otherwise, he would never believe it.
However, just as his hand was about to lift the white sheet, Vincent rushed over.
"What are you doing?" He glared at Gabriel. "She's already dead. Can't you even give her this bit of peace?"
Originally, Gabriel just wanted to confirm.
Because he didn't believe Jessica would be so heartless as to leave him alone in this world.
However, Vincent's attitude made him feel that something was very fishy.
His refusal was too intense, and his reaction was somewhat excessive.
"She's my wife. I have to see her," Gabriel said firmly.
"Wife?" Vincent looked at him coldly. "Did you get married? Gabriel, do you know what a woman wants most after getting pregnant?"
"It's marriage, legitimacy. She was always waiting, hoping, waiting for you to marry her. But what did you do? You married another woman. You broke her heart."
Gabriel explained forcefully, "No, it's not what you think. I didn't really want to marry Diana. I was just buying time."
"She can't hear your explanation anymore," Vincent replied.
Gabriel wept bitterly. He had never regretted anything as much as he did at that moment.
Vincent looked at him coldly. "Regret now is meaningless. When she most longed for marriage, what were you doing? Did you ever think about marrying her?"
"Of course," Gabriel answered without hesitation.
Then his gaze fell on the "Jessica" on the bed.
"Jessica, it was my fault. I always thought I would marry you, but I always thought we had plenty of time, that our happiness would be long-lasting. So, I wanted to wait until everything was settled, to marry you grandly and without worries."
"And our honeymoon, the places you wanted to go, the routes you liked, I had planned it all."
"I remember you said that after getting pregnant, your belly got bigger, and your face became rounder. You were always worried about getting fat and not looking good in a wedding dress. So, I wanted to wait until you give birth to our two babies and recover your figure before you wear the most beautiful wedding dress to marry me."
"I'm sorry, Jessica. I didn't know you were so looking forward to it. If I had known earlier, I wouldn't have waited until now. I would have married you early."
Gabriel said a lot.
But unfortunately, no matter how much he said, no matter how clearly he explained, Jessica would never hear it.
"Let me see her," Gabriel said again.
But Vincent refused without a second thought, "You don't deserve it."
But the more Vincent refused, the more Gabriel felt something was wrong.
"Vincent, today, I must see her," Gabriel said firmly.
He raised his head, his sharp eyes meeting Vincent's gaze without backing down.
They didn't argue loudly, but their exchanged glances were already a silent battle.
If it weren't for the fear of disturbing "Jessica," they might have already come to blows.
Without further hesitation, Gabriel reached out, ready to lift the white sheet.
But before his hand could touch it, suddenly, his wrist was grabbed by Vincent.
"Vincent, I'll say it again, let go of me. I don't want to argue with you here!" Gabriel was already angry, his whole body radiating a seething rage.
But Vincent was not someone to be intimidated.
His hand still gripped Gabriel's, his gaze growing sharper.
Vincent's voice was even more piercing as he asked, "Gabriel, are you ready to lift this sheet?"
"Of course, I'm very clear about it," Gabriel replied.
"I'll ask again, are you really ready?" Vincent asked again.
"Yes."
Gabriel's answer remained the same.
"Alright."
With that, Vincent let go of Gabriel's hand.
"Lift it. But let me warn you, once you lift it, you definitely won't be able to bear the consequences."
