Chapter 275 Engagement Outfit?
"No need."
"Alright."
Jessica and Gabriel almost said it at the same time.
Gabriel was the one who agreed, while Jessica was the one who shot it down.
Jessica thought, 'We are just friends now. Going to a bridal shop with all that pomp and ceremony feels way off.
"That's a bridal shop. It's kinda weird for us to go there," Jessica said.
Gabriel, on the other hand, was cool as a cucumber. "Yeah, I know it's a bridal shop. We're just browsing. Why are you freaking out?"
"But we're not..." Jessica bit her lip and switched it up. "We're just friends."
Gabriel gave her a look, a bit ticked off. "Jessica, I get it, we're just friends. You don't have to keep hammering it in. But right now, I wanna check out the bridal shop. Since we're friends, just come with me."
With that, Gabriel walked ahead.
Jessica trailed behind him, silently.
As soon as they stepped into the bridal shop, Jessica was floored by the sight of the wedding dresses.
She stood there, frozen.
The dresses were drop-dead gorgeous, each one a masterpiece.
Every single dress was a classic, crafted to perfection. Even from a distance, the embroidery looked so real.
Every stitch had meaning; the sea of white screamed purity, innocence, and joy.
She got why girls back in the day were so hyped about their wedding dresses.
This used to be all her dreams and hopes for a wedding. But it seemed like it was never gonna happen.
"Mr. Walton, Ms. Morgan, let me show you around our bridal shop." The tour guide's soft voice broke the silence. "Our bridal shop is the highlight of our store. People come from all over because of its rep. All the dresses here are made with top designers, and we're super picky about who we work with, only choosing those who are pros in classical clothing."
The guide went on, "Our goal is to give every girl beautiful memories, so every stitch of embroidery on these dresses is handmade, which means it takes a while to make and you gotta order way in advance."
"So, what if I wanna order a wedding dress?" Gabriel suddenly asked.
Jessica was floored by that question. 'He wants to order a wedding dress?'
"Mr. Walton, you..." The tour guide was caught off guard and got all excited. Because these dresses were top-tier custom-made and crazy expensive. So, selling one meant a fat commission.
She'd only been working there for three months and never thought she'd land such a big order.
Taking a deep breath, she calmed herself. "Mr. Walton, are you saying you wanna order a wedding dress?"
Jessica couldn't hold back. She pinched her fingers and asked, kinda stiffly, "You really wanna order a wedding dress?"
"Of course." He nodded.
Then he looked at her, his eyes intense. "You heard her, ordering a wedding dress takes time. Given my status, I'm gonna have to get married eventually. Better to be ready so I'm not scrambling later."
Those words felt like a knife to Jessica's heart. It didn't draw blood, but it hurt way more than if it had.
She clenched her hands so tight, her nails dug into her skin, but she didn't even feel the pain.
Her teeth bit into her lip, let go, and bit again.
In the end, all Jessica could do was try to chill out. She had no clue what else to do.
Gabriel turned to the tour guide, his tone sharp and clear. "Order one. My assistant will swing by in a couple of days to sort out the details."
"Alright, Mr. Walton. I'll be waiting," the tour guide replied.
After that, he looked at Jessica. Since hearing those words, she had been totally frozen.
Her heart was plummeting, like it was falling into a bottomless pit, cold and dark.
She knew she shouldn't have cared, shouldn't have felt this way.
And he was right. Given his status, the president of the Walton Group and the heir to the Walton family, how could he not get married?
He'd have to tie the knot eventually.
Even if he'd been married before, it wouldn't matter. With his status and position, there were plenty of high-society ladies dying to marry him. He didn't have to worry about finding a wife.
Plus, they had always been secretly married, so the public didn't even know he had been divorced.
Clenching her hands tightly, Jessica kept telling herself, 'Stay cool, you gotta stay cool. Jessica, come on, you're the best! You won't break down. No matter how sad you are, at least now, in front of him, you have to keep it together.'
"Do you wanna look around some more?" Gabriel asked.
"No, I've seen enough." Jessica replied with a faint smile.
"Really?" He also smiled, his tone rising a bit, making it hard to read his intentions.
"It's getting late. We should head back!" Jessica added.
"Alright." He didn't argue and nodded easily.
They walked, with Jessica leading and Gabriel trailing behind.
Because she kept thinking about him ordering the wedding dress, Jessica was out of it and seemed down. Even her steps were wobbly, so she didn't notice that Gabriel had turned and gone somewhere else.
It wasn't until she reached the door that she realized Gabriel hadn't followed her out.
She pulled out her phone and called him right away. "Where'd you go? I'm waiting for you at the door."
"I've got something to handle. It's windy and cold at the door. Wait for me in the car; Oscar's in the car." After saying that, Gabriel hung up.
Looking at the phone that had been quickly hung up, Jessica smiled bitterly. 'He's got something to handle?' she thought. If she guessed right, his "something" was probably discussing the price and details of the wedding dress.
She didn't expect him to be so eager and serious. His future wife was indeed very lucky and happy.
The wedding dress was ordered, so he must have already picked the next mistress of the Walton family.
Then why did he come to her today? To let her see his happiness and rub it in her face? To tell her, "If you don't want me, there are plenty of others who do"?
Actually, since they had already broken up, she should be wishing him well. But all she felt was bitterness and couldn't say a single word of blessing.
Turns out, wishing a man you once truly loved a lifetime of happiness with another woman is really, really hard.
