Chapter 221 Vincent Learns About Jessica's Divorce

After seeing Jessica off, Vincent turned back.

When he got to the door, he saw Ennifer leaning against it, looking calm.

"Was it Gabriel who picked her up?" Ennifer asked, though she seemed sure.

Intrigued, Vincent asked, "You know him?"

Ennifer mentioned, "That car, there's only two of it in the city. One's the Walton's, the other I gave you for your birthday. You thought it was too flashy and kept it in the garage. I saw it gathering dust, so I drove it out."

Vincent got it. He asked impatiently, "So, what's your point?"

Ennifer raised an eyebrow in annoyance and grabbed his shirt. She remarked, "Playing hide and seek with me? I knew what you were hiding."

"Then keep pretending you don't know," Vincent said.

Ennifer looked at him. She said, "The Walton family birthday party? And when you asked me to contact the obstetrics professor in the middle of the night? All for her, right?"

Vincent looked up at the moon, silent.

Ennifer questioned, "Now her husband's back, and they're all lovey-dovey. Are you giving up?"

"Ennifer," Vincent said, trying to stay calm, "I need to be alone for a while."

Ennifer punched him. She said frustratedly, "Vincent, you're my brother. Don't be a coward. So what if it's the Walton family? The Lucas family isn't afraid of anyone. If you like her, go for it. How will she know if you just stay here?"

"Ennifer," Vincent looked at her, eyes full of sorrow as he mentioned, "They're married. Are you telling me to break up their marriage?"

Ennifer revealed, "I checked. They divorced a month ago. Jessica's single now, so you have a fair chance."

"What?" Vincent said as he looked at Ennifer in disbelief, "Say that again."

Ennifer confirmed, "Yes, she's divorced from Gabriel."

Vincent thought he'd be overjoyed, but he surprised her instead.

He walked over, hugged her. Vincent said with relief, "Ennifer, thank you for understanding. I thought you'd mind."

Ennifer smiled. She replied, "Mind what? That she was married or had an abortion?"

Ennifer continued gently, "Silly, if you truly love her, why would I mind? Everyone has a past. Do you expect her to stay chaste just for you? I'm not that old-fashioned."

Ennifer added, "I don't care about her past. If she's the one you choose, then I support you."

Vincent's eyes got a bit moist.

Losing his father was his greatest pain.

But having a sister who always had his back was his greatest blessing.

When he wanted to work at the police station, his mom was against it.

But he still insisted on pursuing it.

His sister supported him, fought against all objections, and got him in.

She also managed the family business, turning from a carefree rich girl into a formidable businesswoman.

Her efforts protected his dreams and his original intentions.

Vincent and Ennifer walked into the house, hand in hand.

Seeing them, Alexis stood up with a gentle smile. She greeted, "Back so soon?"

She felt a bit regretful that she couldn't keep Jessica for dinner.

Ennifer hooked her arm around Alexis's. She remarked, "Mom, I know you want a daughter-in-law, but love can't be rushed. You know your son."

Alexis replied, "I know him too well. I'm over fifty, and people his age already have kids. How can I not be in a hurry?"

Vincent walked over to support Alexis. He said gently, "Mom, don't say that."

"Vincent, be honest. Do you like Jessica?" Alexis asked.

"We're just friends," Vincent said.

"I'm not asking about your relationship. I'm asking if you like her," Alexis pressed.

"Mom, this soup is delicious. Let me get you some," Ennifer said as she quickly ladled a bowl of soup and placed it in front of Alexis.

Alexis glared at her. She said impatiently, "Don't change the subject. You've spoiled him since he was little. Now he's almost thirty and still doesn't have a girlfriend."

Ennifer rebutted, "Mom, that's not fair. You spoil him too. How can you blame me?"

Alexis was at a loss for words.

Madison came over and hugged Alexis. She said sweetly, "Mommy, don't worry. I promise my big brother will bring you a beautiful, gentle, and elegant daughter-in-law."

"Madison always knows how to make me happy," Alexis laughed.

Back home, Jessica had just opened the door.

Gabriel pulled her inside, pinned her against the door, and kissed her hard for several minutes. The kiss left her weak, leaning against him for support before he finally let go.

He smiled contentedly.

"You're a scheming man," Jessica said, poking him lightly.

"Oh? How am I scheming?" Gabriel pretended not to know.

"You said you'd go home first and wait for me, but then came back to the hospital entrance? Afraid I wouldn't come back?" Jessica remarked teasingly.

"Yes, I am," Gabriel agreed and nodded, pinching her cheek, "My girlfriend is so cute. If another man took you away, I'd die."

Jessica scoffed playfully, "You're exaggerating."

"Anyway, you can't be alone with other men in the future," Gabriel said dominantly.

Jessica pinched his cheek. She replied, "Gabriel, your concern and jealousy make me feel valued, but I hope you can trust me more."

Jessica stated, "I've said it before, Vincent and I are just friends. My concern for him is purely out of friendship. Since I've decided to be with you, I'll act accordingly to everyone."

"It's not that I don't trust you," Gabriel said, "I just don't trust him."

Jessica fell silent.

The housekeeper had prepared a meal, all dishes they both loved.

As soon as it was served, it looked and smelled delicious.

Jessica glanced at them and immediately felt hungry.

Fortunately, she didn't mention Alexis inviting her to lunch at the Lucas Family's, or Gabriel would be jealous again.

They were eating in the dining room when Gabriel's phone rang.

He glanced at it and quickly hung up.

Within seconds, it rang again.

Jessica looked at him puzzled, and asked, "Why aren't you answering?"
