Chapter 701 Inner Pain 2

Grace was stunned for a moment before she spoke.

Because she didn't expect Mark to tell Quentin all this.

"You know everything?"

"So, now I want you to explain this to me," Quentin said, struggling to suppress his anger.

"You know the reasoning, don't you? Even though you're not a celebrity, you're a public figure. Once you marry Caroline, you shouldn't have any scandals, especially not with a scandal-ridden actress. You need to clean up thoroughly."

"You can't let it affect your public image or your marriage."

"You've always kept me well-hidden. Caroline only thinks I'm your secretary, so your plan has always been perfect."

Quentin was extremely furious.

But he held back, gritting his teeth, and asked, "Fine, keep talking. What else do you want to say? Tell me everything."

"I know my place. Don't worry, I'm not someone who doesn't know when to back off. I won't cling to you or make things difficult for you."

"When the time comes, as long as you allow it, I will leave immediately and won't disturb you at all."

Quentin's eyes were bloodshot; he was truly confused by his anger. "So this is how you define our relationship?"

Hearing this, Grace raised her head for the first time and retorted.

"Otherwise? How do you define it, Mr. Taft?"

"Or are you saying you want to marry me?"

After saying this, she clenched her fists.

She didn't know if she was waiting for an answer or for one that would make her sad.

"In the name of love, I want you by my side, not because of a transaction."

"Really?" Grace smiled.

In the end, she was overthinking it.

How could he marry her?

It was always just an illusion, a dream.

A few years ago, he never said it; a few years later, he still hadn't.

"If I said I never intended to marry Caroline and never will, would you believe me?" Quentin asked.

Grace looked up at the light above her.

She tried so hard to hold back the tears in her eyes.

Then she spoke in a decisive and firm voice.

"I don't believe you."

If he didn't want to marry Caroline, he would have canceled the engagement long ago. Why hadn't he canceled it yet?

The fact that it has lasted until now only proves that he did want to marry Caroline.

"It's late. I want to sleep. You should rest early, too."

After saying this, Grace hung up.

This time, after several rounds, she even felt that she had found a way to coexist peacefully with him.

As long as she didn't care, didn't get emotionally involved, everything seemed fine.

Except her heart hurt a little.

But it was nothing; she could endure it.

Eventually, even the most painful heart would heal and stop hurting.

Even if it didn't heal, she would become numb to the pain.

Quentin smoked one cigarette after another, filling the entire office with smoke.

Willie, who had just finished working overtime, was about to leave when he noticed the office light was still on, so he went to check.

As soon as Willie opened the door, he saw Quentin.

"Mr. Taft, you haven't left yet?"

"Come here."

Quentin waved him over. "Sit down, I have something to ask you."

"Mr. Taft, go ahead."

Quentin briefly explained what had just happened and then asked Willie, "Do you think she's angry?"

"Mr. Taft, you can't blame Ms. Morgan. Any woman would be angry."

"Why?" Quentin was puzzled. "I've made it clear to her that I won't marry Caroline. She just doesn't believe me."

"But when Ms. Morgan asked if you wanted to marry her, you didn't give a clear answer, did you?"

"Give what answer? Marry her?"

Willie nodded.

Quentin rubbed his temples. "Isn't the current situation good enough? You know, if I marry her, the Taft family, my mom, and the board of directors of the company, none of them would agree."

"Especially my mom. She would threaten to die."

"At least for now, I haven't found a way to satisfy everyone. I don't want to promise her something I can't deliver. That would hurt her even more. What I can promise is that I definitely won't marry Caroline."

"Mr. Taft," Willie sighed and continued, "Mr. Taft, it seems you really don't understand a woman's heart."

"To a woman, the most faithful, sincere, and unwavering love is marriage, a wedding ring, a wedding dress, a marriage certificate. All of these are sacred and inviolable to them. They are the most beautiful symbols and destinations of love."

"Ms. Morgan wants to stand by your side openly, to be your wife, and grow old with you."

"That's what she cares about the most, and you have overlooked the most important thing in her heart."

"Mr. Taft, no woman doesn't look forward to marriage. Think about it carefully!"

Not long after Willie left, Quentin grabbed his car keys and rushed out.

In the car, he called Gabriel. "Are you asleep?"

"Not yet."

"Is Jessica asleep?"

"Why are you asking about Jessica?"

"I need to talk to her. I'll be there soon."

"Quentin..." Gabriel wanted to say it was already late and that Quentin should come tomorrow.

But Quentin had already hung up.

What surprised him even more was that just a few minutes after hanging up, Quentin was already in the lobby of The Walton Manor.

"How did you get here so fast?"

"I have something important to ask Jessica," Quentin blurted out.

"Is it about Grace?"

"Yes."

"You can see Jessica, but Quentin, you have to promise not to come see her late at night again. Not when I'm home, and especially not when I'm not home."

Quentin gave him a cold look. "Are you that unhappy? How long have you been married?"

"Of course. How would you, someone who isn't married, know the benefits of marriage?"

"Wait, do you really think marriage is that good? When did you feel the urge to marry Jessica?"

Gabriel answered without hesitation, "From the moment I knew I loved her, I wanted to marry her and make her my wife."

"Isn't good enough for just dating? It's the same to me. I would still pamper her, love her, and take care of her."

Gabriel shook his head with a smile. "Of course, it's not the same. Marriage is a lifelong commitment and the most beautiful testament to love for a woman. It's not so much that they want marriage, but that they want the determination to stay together for a lifetime."

"Being a couple makes the relationship closer. You can also drive away all her suitors as her husband. Isn't that good? But as boyfriend and girlfriend, it's not the same."

"Your children also need a complete and happy family, not just cohabiting parents."

"I know you have a fear of marriage because of your parents, but not everyone's marriage is like that. A good marriage is joyful, happy, and can heal a lifetime of misfortune."

"Think about it carefully. I'll go get Jessica."
