Chapter 141 Why Are You Crying?

As the two walked out of the courthouse, a motorcycle suddenly sped toward them from the left.

"Jessica, watch out!" Gabriel's heart skipped a beat as he shouted.

He sprinted over without thinking, pulling Jessica into his arms. One hand wrapped around her waist, the other protected her head.

Jessica was also frightened and let out a scream.

Suddenly, the motorcycle crashed hard to the ground, and the man, who was on it, rolled over and fell heavily, groaning in pain.

At that moment, it felt like the world went silent.

Jessica hid in Gabriel's arms, only able to hear his heartbeat, pounding wildly.

"Are you hurt?" Gabriel finally caught his breath and asked Jessica softly.

"I'm fine, not hurt. What about you?" Jessica asked.

As soon as she finished speaking, Gabriel let go of her and rushed toward that man, who was lying on the ground.

Gabriel grabbed him and snarled through gritted teeth. "Why were you driving so fast? Are you trying to get yourself killed?"

"Do you know you almost hit my wife?"

He shouted, his fists clenched, ready to strike.

Jessica was startled and quickly ran over to stop him. "Gabriel, calm down!"

Gabriel said angrily, "Speeding like that, it's reckless. I have to teach him a lesson today."

Just thinking about how Jessica was almost hit made his anger surge uncontrollably.

What if he hadn't been there? What if he hadn't saved her?

The consequences were unimaginable.

Jessica didn't want him to make a mistake, especially not for her. She reached out and gently pulled Gabriel's arm, softly persuading, "Let the police handle it. You don't need to do it yourself."

If he hit someone first and this incident got out, he would be in the wrong, no matter what.

He ran such a big company, and every move he made was under scrutiny. It wasn't worth it to let something so small affect him.

"Yes, I was wrong. Please don't be angry, spare me! Look, I'm hurt too. I promise I'll follow traffic rules from now on and never speed again," The man pleaded.

Gabriel finally calmed down a bit and unclenched his fists.

In all the time Jessica had known Gabriel, he had always been elegant and refined. Even when angry, he was civilized, usually using his gaze and presence to make others submit.

This was the first time she had seen him rush in to throw punches.

Whether it was excitement or something else, she clearly remembered him shouting "wife."

But they were already divorced; she was no longer his wife.

So, was his impulsiveness just now all because of her?

For her?

This made her heart ache a little.

Suddenly, she noticed Gabriel's arm was injured, and the skin scraped and bleeding.

Though it wasn't much blood, the wound covered a large area, almost the entire side of his arm.

"You're hurt. Let's go to the car, and I'll treat it," Jessica said anxiously.

He got hurt protecting her, so naturally, she was worried.

Even if it wasn't because of her, she would still be concerned and distressed seeing him injured.

"No rush. Let's wait for the police to take him away."

Only after the police took that man away did Jessica and Gabriel leave.

In the parking lot, Jessica quickly found the first aid kit.

Gabriel sat in the back seat, which was more spacious. Jessica got in with the supplies.

"Does it hurt?" she asked.

This kind of injury was a small matter to Gabriel, but seeing her serious and anxious expression, he changed his mind. "A little."

He furrowed his handsome brows.

"Bear with it, I'll be gentle." Jessica gently treated his arm wound while softly comforting him.

Gabriel enjoyed this kind of comfort. He sat quietly, letting Jessica clean and medicate his wound.

When she applied the medicine, he felt a sharp pain shot from his arm. And Gabriel immediately frowned, sucking in a cold breath.

"You are scraped, so the medicine stings a bit at first, but it's very effective. Just bear with it." Jessica gently comforted him, fanning the freshly applied medicine on his arm and blowing on it.

She lowered her head, focused and meticulous.

Gabriel also lowered his head. From his angle, he couldn't see her entire face, but the soft face and smooth, fair skin were close enough to touch.

He could even see the fine hairs on her face.

She was really fair, her skin as white as snow, smooth and flawless.

If she had fallen and gotten hurt, leaving the wound.

He couldn't bear to imagine it.

After a few minutes, Jessica looked up at Gabriel. "It's been a while; it should feel better now. How do you feel?"

Gabriel looked up. "Yes, it feels better."

As he looked up, his deep eyes met Jessica's clear, bright ones.

Her gentle eyes were so beautiful.

But such a beautiful person no longer belonged to him.

This realization made Gabriel's heart ache.

After treating the wound, Jessica put the first aid kit away and sincerely thanked Gabriel. "Thank you for earlier. If you hadn't pulled me, I might have been hit."

"No need to be so polite," Gabriel said, his voice cool.

For some reason, hearing her thank him so formally made him feel very uncomfortable.

He did it without thinking, purely out of instinct.

He did it just to prevent her from getting hurt, not to seek her thanks.

Gabriel said, "It's nothing. Just be more careful when walking and look around more, especially when I'm not with you."

"Okay," Jessica nodded.

Her heart felt sour and heavy.

He was there today to help.

But in the future, he wouldn't be by her side anymore.

Then, she would face all the difficulties and storms of life alone. Thinking about a future without him made her heart feel empty.

It was really painful.

Her eyes suddenly felt sour, as if tears were about to fall.

She looked up, blinking hard, but the tears still fell uncontrollably.

She wanted to wipe her tears, but it was too late. In a panic, she quickly turned around to wipe them away.

However, just as she raised her hand, suddenly, a weight fell on her shoulder.

The next moment, Gabriel gently turned her around.

His hand softly touched her cheek, wiping away her tears. Gabriel asked, "Why are you crying? Were you scared earlier, or were you hurt somewhere and didn't tell me?"
