Chapter 655 A Chance Encounter with Caroline
"It's too expensive, I can't accept it."
Hearing the response, Quentin immediately snatched it from Grace's hand.
Then he walked to the window and, without thinking, threw it outside.
"Fine, if you don't want it, I'll just throw it away. It's useless to me anyway."
"Quentin, how could you throw it away?"
Grace tried to stop him, but it was too late.
"Where is it?" She looked at him, holding onto a glimmer of hope. "Did you throw it away?"
"Yes, I did."
He answered so casually, as if it were a trivial matter.
"Quentin," Grace was genuinely angry, "even if I don't want it, you shouldn't have thrown it away."
"That necklace is worth at least two million dollars. You just threw it away without a second thought. Do you even care about money?"
"I know you're rich, but that doesn't mean you should waste money like this. If you think you have too much money, you should donate it to underprivileged children. You're driving me crazy."
After saying that, Grace rushed out to start looking for it.
But the window faced a dense patch of trees, making it hard to find.
After searching for several minutes, she went back and instructed the staff, "Come with me, help me find it."
The group looked at each other, hesitant to move without Quentin's order.
Quentin then cleared his throat deliberately, "Hurry up, didn't you hear?"
"Yes, Mr. Taft, we're on it."
Grace glared at him, displeased, "You come and help me, too."
Quentin remained silent.
They searched for a long time but couldn't find the necklace, and Grace was heartbroken.
Such an expensive necklace could have funded many underprivileged students and helped many in need.
But now, they couldn't even find it.
Half an hour passed, and Grace's face was covered in sweat.
Her bangs were soaked.
Tiny beads of sweat formed on her nose.
With the sun shining down, her delicate face flushed, making her look incredibly beautiful. Quentin's heart skipped a beat as he watched her.
If it weren't for all the people around, he would have kissed Grace's face right then and there.
She was always so tempting, making it impossible for him to control himself.
Unable to bear seeing her search any longer, Quentin found an opportunity to drop the necklace.
Then he suddenly raised his voice and shouted, "Found it, it's here."
Grace immediately ran over, relieved to see the necklace in his hand.
"Keep it safe. If you lose it again, I won't help you find it."
"Anyway, I bought it for you. If you don't want it, I'll just throw it away," he replied, as domineering as ever.
Grace looked down at the necklace for a while and then softly murmured, "I told you to give it to the person it was meant for. I'm not that person!"
With that, she turned and walked away.
Watching her back and thinking about what she had mentioned earlier, Quentin felt like he finally understood something.
He quickly ran after her, catching up to her.
"Grace, are you jealous?"
At that moment, he looked at her, excited like a young man, his eyes sparkling.
"No, I'm not."
"Of course you are. You're jealous of Caroline, aren't you?"
Quentin moved closer, trying to please her, "Grace, I only want to give this necklace to you. The moment I saw it, I thought it would look beautiful on you. So, I won't give it to anyone else but you."
"Will you wear it?"
"If you don't like it, it will just end up in the trash."
In the end, Grace softened and nodded gently.
Quentin put the necklace on her and then held her hand, leading her outside.
"Where are we going?" she asked.
"The necklace looks so good on you. I'm taking you to buy some clothes to match it."
"No need, you've already prepared a lot for me."
"That's different. Now I'm picking them out for you. We have to go."
"Wait, let me get my sunglasses."
At least for now, she didn't want to be recognized, especially while shopping with him.
At the mall, Quentin took her from one store to another.
When he saw suitable clothes, he pointed and ordered, "This dress, that one, and that whole row, I want them all."
By the third store, Grace was starting to feel overwhelmed.
She grabbed Quentin's hand. "That's enough, I have plenty to wear."
"Grace," Quentin looked at her seriously, "I know you used to attend events and parties, wearing custom-made designer clothes, sometimes changing outfits more than ten times a day."
"You used to live a glamorous life. Now that you're with me, I don't want you to feel deprived."
Grace lowered her eyebrows, "It's enough."
Because she knew very well that things were different now.
She was no longer the shining star on stage.
"Just one more store, and then we'll go back," Quentin coaxed her.
Grace nodded, "Okay, but don't buy like you did before. Let me pick and try them on. If I like them, then we'll buy."
"Alright, whatever you say."
In the store, Grace was immediately drawn to a light purple dress in the window.
The beautiful color and unique design made it stand out.
Quentin noticed too and gently suggested, "If you like it, try it on. I'll wait outside. Okay?"
"Okay."
A few minutes later, Grace tried on the dress and opened the fitting room door, ready to ask him how it looked.
Just then, a woman in high heels with long legs stood next to Quentin.
She reached out and hooked his arm. "Quentin, what are you doing here?"
"Did you know I like this store and came here to surprise me?"
The woman's voice was sweet and playful, filled with joy and excitement.
It was clear she was very happy.
Grace's steps froze.
When the woman first came in, Grace had only caught a fleeting glimpse, only a vague outline.
But now, as the figure stepped into the brightness, everything became clear. The woman was Caroline; Quentin's fiancée.
Grace never expected to run into her here.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have come.
At that moment, Caroline looked over and pointed at the dress Grace was wearing. Then she tugged on Quentin's arm, "Quentin, look, isn't that dress beautiful?"
"Do you think it would look even better on me?"
"I like it. Will you buy it for me?"
