Chapter 304 Embracing You
Jack's eyes flickered open, and he seemed to get it a bit, finally letting go of Jessica.
Jessica didn't waste a second. She bolted to the side, her heart pounding.
She spotted the bathroom and made a beeline for it, hoping to hide.
But just as she was about to slip inside, Jack's hand clamped around her wrist.
In a flash, Jessica found herself yanked back onto the bed.
Jack's hot, heavy body pinned her down.
He started tearing at her clothes like a madman, not giving a damn about her pleas.
Tears streaming down her face, Jessica begged, "Jack, snap out of it. Don't touch me. Please, just let me go."
This time, Jack seemed to hear her, seemed to see her clearly.
But he couldn't stop himself.
"I'm sorry, Jessica," he said. "Without you, I might die.
"Just this once, okay? I'll give you anything you want.
"My mom likes you, and I don't hate you. I can marry you."
With that, Jack leaned in closer.
Jessica cried harder, kicking and hitting him, "No, Jack, let go of me.
"I won't agree to this. You're forcing me. Do you get that?
"Let go of me. I love someone else. I won't let you do this."
But Jack didn't stop.
Desperate, Jessica glanced at the wall behind her.
She shut her eyes and threw herself at it, hard.
Once wasn't enough, so she did it again. And again.
Jack stood there, stunned, not knowing what to do.
Jessica's forehead was a bloody mess, blood streaming down her face.
A twisted smile crept onto her lips. "Jack, I told you. I love someone else. I'd rather die than be with you."
And with that, she passed out.
Jack crawled over, his hands trembling as he touched her cheeks gently.
An hour later, they both woke up.
Jessica's eyes fluttered open, and she realized she was still in the hotel. Panic set in as she checked herself.
She was under the covers, wearing only a silk nightgown. She felt like dying.
She glanced over and saw Jack lying not far away, his arm peeking out from under a blanket, still asleep.
Without thinking, Jessica jumped out of bed, grabbed her clothes, and threw them on.
This time, the door opened easily.
She ran out, not daring to look back.
She didn't know how long she ran, just that she was far from the hotel when she finally stopped.
Thinking about what had happened, she collapsed to the ground, tears streaming down her face.
Why did this happen to her?
Who was behind this?
This was supposed to be her happiest day. She had planned to say yes to Gabriel, to hold hands and welcome the new year together, to be each other's first hug of the new year.
Their future was supposed to be bright and happy.
He said he wanted a baby, and she wanted one too.
She had even thought about making a baby with him tonight.
But now?
All those beautiful hopes and happy dreams were shattered in an instant.
Her dream was gone, completely and utterly destroyed.
"Jessica, how did your life end up like this?
"Is it that you really don't deserve happiness? God, I've been a doctor, saving lives, always kind-hearted, never harming anyone. Why are you doing this to me?
"I don't have a mother anymore, and I haven't found my father. All I want is a little happiness. Is that too much to ask?"
She looked up at the sky, questioning.
But there were no answers.
"Gabriel, I'm sorry. If you knew, would you be disappointed? Would you blame me?
"Would you hate me?
"I'm so sorry, really sorry."
The tears kept coming, like an unstoppable faucet, no matter how many times she wiped them away.
It seemed like they would never stop.
Just thinking about Gabriel made her heart ache.
Suddenly, a bell rang in the distance.
Jessica realized the New Year's bell was about to ring.
She looked up and heard the countdown from afar, "Ten, nine, eight..."
The New Year's countdown had already begun.
She realized she was close to their meeting place.
Without thinking, Jessica ran frantically towards it.
Even though she knew she couldn't spend her life with him, or share a lifetime together, she wanted to be with him for this New Year, for this countdown.
She hoped they could step into the new year together.
Jessica ran desperately.
Her high heels were too high, so she kicked them off and ran barefoot.
Her coat was too thick, so she shrugged it off and ran with all her might.
She ran so hard.
In her ears, the countdown continued, "Four, three...!"
"Two, one."
When the last "one" echoed in her ears, Jessica couldn't hold back anymore and collapsed.
She stumbled and fell to the ground, lying there, completely dazed, not even finding a reason to get up.
It turned out that God wouldn't even let her fulfill this last wish.
She couldn't spend her life with him, and even accompanying him for a New Year's countdown was a fantasy too?
The new year had already arrived.
And she had completely missed it.
"God, how can you be so cruel? Why? Why won't you even give me this last bit of hope?" Jessica felt like she had lost all her strength.
But at that moment, through the crowd, through the layers of people, she saw him.
He was still so tall, so handsome, so wonderful, just like the boy from her youth.
She saw that he hadn't given up.
He was running anxiously, searching desperately, his back so urgent.
Suddenly, Jessica found courage.
She got up, leaving behind her high heels and coat, and ran bravely, without hesitation, towards him.
The cold wind was biting, her face hurt from the wind, her feet hurt from running, and her body hurt from the impact.
But?
At the moment she called out his name, her heart was warm.
"Gabriel?"
