Chapter 281 Failed Attempt at Slander
"Well, if it isn't my sister-in-law! Look at you, all groggy. Just roll outta bed?" Sarah sneered.
Jessica couldn't be bothered and just tried to brush past her.
But the more Jessica ignored her, the more pissed Sarah got.
She grabbed Jessica's wrist.
"Let go," Jessica said coldly, her eyes cutting through Sarah.
Sarah felt a bit shaken but still snapped, "Jessica, who do you think you are? You think I'll let go just 'cause you said so?"
"Do you even know what time it is? Do you have any sense of responsibility as part of the Walton family? There are so many guests today, and my brother's downstairs entertaining them all by himself. He's drunk, and you're here sleeping. Aren't you ashamed?"
"This is between him and me. None of your business," Jessica shot back.
Sarah was instantly fuming at her bluntness.
"I've never seen such a heartless woman, Jessica. What makes you worthy of my brother?" Sarah sneered. "Let me tell you, Diana is back, and..."
Sarah laughed arrogantly, her face full of smugness. "Diana's legs are healed. She can walk normally now and will soon be back on stage dancing. You haven't seen Diana dance, have you? Let me describe it to you—it's stunning, absolutely beautiful. My brother was captivated by her dancing. Now that Diana is back, what do you have to compete with her?"
"Jessica, I advise you to give my brother back to Diana. Otherwise, you'll embarrass yourself," Sarah said.
"Is that so?" Jessica looked at her indifferently, saying, "Is that so? Then I'm waiting for it. After all, I'm the legitimate wife, and I won't be embarrassed. As for Diana, stealing someone's husband and seducing a married man—if that news gets out, everyone will condemn her."
"Jessica, you—" Sarah glared at her, saying, with her face turning red and white with anger. "How can you be so vicious? Grandpa was really blind to like such a vicious woman and marry you to my brother. Today is Grandpa's hundredth-day memorial. He doted on you so much, and you're here sleeping. If he knew in heaven, how heartbroken would he be!"
Jessica's heart had been calm.
Sarah was Diana's henchman.
She never took Sarah seriously.
But if she mentioned her grandpa, that was a different story.
Jessica said, "Sarah, I warn you; today is Grandpa's hundredth-day memorial. Considering you're also a Walton Family grandchild, I don't want to cause trouble or embarrass you. If you step aside now, I can pretend none of this happened. Or else......"
"Or else what?" Sarah retorted foolishly, "Are you going to kill me or bury me?"
Sarah was truly foolish.
Thinking of her grandpa and today's significance, Jessica didn't want to cause trouble, reaching out and yanking Sarah's hand away.
But at that moment, Sarah suddenly fell backward crazily, rolling down like a round ball.
The servants downstairs quickly stopped her, some even using their feet.
So when Sarah got up, she was fuming, shouting, "Get away, you bunch of stinky feet! How dare you touch me?"
"Where's Gabriel? Where's my brother? Jessica pushed me in broad daylight and tried to kill me. I need my brother to teach her a lesson!" Sarah started bawling.
Her cries drew some guests' attention.
Though many guests had left, some were still munching away.
This commotion had everyone looking.
After a couple of minutes, someone shouted, "Mr. Walton is here."
The noisy scene quieted down immediately. Seeing Gabriel, Sarah ran over and grabbed him, saying, "Gabriel, you're finally here. You have to teach her a lesson for me! Do you know? I almost died just now."
Gabriel's gaze fell on her bleeding forehead. "What happened?"
Sarah thought he was going to help her teach Jessica a lesson.
She immediately pointed to Jessica standing on the stairs, crying, "It was her. She pushed me down the stairs. Gabriel, it's a good thing the stairs aren't steep, or I'd be dead."
Sarah cried miserably.
At this moment, Jessica walked down.
Seeing her, Gabriel pushed Sarah aside and walked towards Jessica, grabbing her hand and asking anxiously, "What happened? Are you hurt?"
"No," Jessica shook her head and explained, "I didn't mean to push your sister. She was holding onto me, not letting me leave. I just wanted to push her hand away, and she lost her balance and fell."
Jessica answered frankly, with nothing to hide.
Sarah, however, wouldn't let it go, saying, "Gabriel, that's not true. Don't believe this bitch. She pushed me. She wants to kill me. Gabriel, don't be..."
Before she could finish, Gabriel turned and shot her a cold, sharp look, questioning, "What did you just call her?"
Sarah said, "'Bitch.' She is..."
"Enough." With a shout, Gabriel grabbed Sarah like a little chicken and brought her in front of Jessica, ordering, "Apologize to her right now. And from now on, I don't want to hear those words from your mouth ever again."
Sarah stood there, stunned like a wooden doll.
She couldn't understand why she had to apologize when it was clearly Jessica's fault.
"Gabriel, it's her fault. Do you still consider me your sister?" Sarah cried pitifully.
Unfortunately, her tears had no effect on Gabriel.
"Do I need to pull up the surveillance footage and show it?"
"Apologize or not?" Gabriel roared.
His imposing manner was intimidating.
Sarah was so scared that she cried and gave in. "Fine, I'll apologize."
Then she looked at Jessica, saying, "I'm sorry, I..."
Jessica interrupted her apology. "No need to apologize. I don't need your apology. I only have one wish: stay far away from me. I don't want to see your face, understand?"
"Jessica, what do you mean?" Sarah said angrily.
"Nothing, just that seeing your face brings bad luck and ruins my mood," Jessica said.
