Chapter 207 Returning Home to Save Jessica
Gabriel was about to speak when Diana suddenly opened her eyes. She looked at him with a heartbroken, desperate expression and weakly called out, "Gabriel."
Normally, Gabriel would have rushed over. But this time, he didn't move.
The night was pitch black, the darkness thick like a heavy blanket. Gabriel stood there, frozen like a statue.
Time seemed to stop. The scene felt like it was frozen in place.
Tears streamed down Diana's face. She shook her head in disbelief. He didn't get in the ambulance. He didn't go with her to the hospital.
He had intended to. Yet, he had just taken a phone call. What call was it? How could it change his mind so easily?
"Gabriel," Diana called out weakly, using almost all her strength. But it was in vain. Gabriel just looked at her, still not moving.
The ambulance door slowly closed. Diana used all her strength, reaching out towards Gabriel, her eyes filled with misery and sorrow.
"Gabriel!" Her painful wail echoed in the thick darkness.
"Diana, take care. I believe you'll make it through," Gabriel said, waving his hand.
The ambulance door closed and sped towards the hospital. In the night, it drove further and further away, soon disappearing.
Gabriel turned to his assistant, who had arrived late. He instructed, "You go to the hospital and take care of her."
Then he called Oscar. He said urgently, "Get my private jet ready immediately. I need to leave right away."
Oscar informed, "Mr. Walton, your plane had a minor issue during the last maintenance and hasn't been fixed yet. It might be dangerous to fly now."
"Oscar, I repeat, I need it ready immediately," Gabriel snapped.
Oscar complied, "Yes, Mr. Walton, I'll arrange it right away."
"In half an hour, I need to depart. Also, contact the bank now. I need Ten million dollars in cash. Have them prepare it immediately. Go handle it, right now!"
Gabriel emphasized the last few words. This time, Oscar didn't dare to question. He quickly went to handle it.
Half an hour later, Gabriel was on the plane back home. As he boarded, he checked the time. It was already 10 p.m., and there were 11 hours until 9 a.m. tomorrow.
Time was tight; he was racing against the clock. But no matter what, he believed he could make it back in time to save Jessica.
Last time, when she was in danger, not only did he not save her, but he also thought she was lying, trying to gain his sympathy. She had a car accident in the pouring rain, and in her moment of despair, he wasn't there for her.
He failed to protect her and their baby. That was his fault too.
He had realized his mistakes. This time, no matter how difficult the road ahead was, no matter what the cost, he wouldn't back down.
Gabriel muttered, "Jessica, hold on. I'm coming back. I promised I wouldn't leave you again. This time, I'll be there to protect you. Jessica, wait for me."
The plane soared into the sky, and Gabriel looked out at the dark night, his brows furrowed. His hands were clenched into fists, tightly interlocked.
That night, Gabriel didn't sleep a wink.
When Jessica woke up, her head was covered with a hood, and her hands and feet were bound. The car was shaking as it moved, and she could hear men's voices and laughter. She quickly realized she was in serious trouble.
A man's voice came from the front, "Mr. Gonzalez, do you think her husband will come to save her?"
"I think he will. She's the wife of a wealthy man. Whether he loves her or not, if something happens to her, it would be a disgrace."
The group was deep in conversation. From their chatter, Jessica pieced it together. They had kidnapped her to threaten Gabriel, demanding a ransom of ten million dollars. But Gabriel was abroad. How could he make it back in time?
Sadness and despair washed over her. Life was full of unexpected twists. He had just left the country, and now she was kidnapped.
After a violent jolt, the car stopped. Jessica was carried and placed somewhere. They removed the hood from her face. When they saw her eyes open, Mike raised an eyebrow with amusement and said, "You do look good. No wonder you married into the Walton family."
"Who are you? We have no quarrel. Why did you capture me?" Jessica demanded.
Mike wiped the knife in his hand and sneered, "No quarrel? You're right. I have no grudge against you. Blame your gambler father who owes me money. He said he would give you to me to deal with as I please."
Jessica couldn't believe her ears. She knew Carter was a scoundrel, but she never expected him to be so heartless. Even if she wasn't his biological daughter, they had lived together for years.
How could he throw her to these thugs? Did he ever think about what would happen to her if Gabriel didn't come back? She would be killed, quietly disposed of by these people.
Jessica looked up, eagerly observing. She wouldn't cry for that scum. But how could she not feel heartbroken? She had truly regarded him as her father.
But to him, she was just a tool to be used and discarded. He didn't deserve to be called a father. Even the most wicked people weren't as vile as Carter.
Jessica's eyes narrowed as she looked at Mike. She said angrily, "Don't mention that man in front of me. I'm not his daughter, and he doesn't deserve to be my father."
"Whatever, I don't care about your relationship. I only care about the money," Mike said and shrugged.
Jessica let out a cold laugh. Mike sensed something was off and asked sharply, "What are you laughing at?"
"I bet he assured you that kidnapping me would get you the money. But did you ever think, if he could get the money, why would he need you to do it?"
Mike immediately sensed something was wrong and pressed, "What do you mean? Explain clearly."
Jessica looked up at him and answered seriously, "It means Gabriel and I are already divorced. You won't get any money by kidnapping me."
