Chapter 268 Show your Wife you Appreciate her

Jessica glanced at her phone, feeling the weight of the message.

After a moment, she dialed Gabriel.

"Hey, Jessica," Gabriel answered quickly, like he was waiting for her call.

"Is it true? Can you really help me find Dr. Turner?" Jessica asked.

Even though Gabriel had sent the message, it still stung when she called just for that. It felt like a knife twisting in his chest.

He wondered if she would've called at all if she didn't need to find Harold.

Swallowing his emotions, Gabriel said, "Yeah, it's true. Come see me after work if you want."

"Okay," Jessica replied. Gabriel hung up as soon as she finished speaking.

He hung up fast, afraid that staying on the line would make him feel worse.

"How..." Jessica started to ask how he was doing, but he had already hung up.

After work, Jessica changed and headed straight to Gabriel's ward.

When she got there, he was already dressed and had his bags packed.

Jessica was surprised. "Are your wounds healed? You're ready to leave already?"

"Yeah, almost," Gabriel replied.

Nearby, Oscar frowned. Gabriel was still too cocky.

What did he mean by "almost"? His wounds were actually pretty bad.

He had spent the previous night in the cold and hadn't eaten all day. How could he be fine?

But Gabriel had this cold vibe, and Oscar didn't dare tell Jessica the truth.

They got in the car, and twenty minutes later, the surroundings started to look familiar.

Jessica finally realized, "This looks like the road to the ancestral villa."

"Yeah," Gabriel nodded. "We haven't been home in a while. My parents miss us and want us to have dinner tonight."

"Oh," Jessica responded, feeling a mix of emotions.

By now, she and Gabriel had been divorced for a while, but it seemed he hadn't told his parents yet.

So, his parents still didn't know about the divorce.

At the ancestral villa, Jonah and Danielle were already waiting, having prepared a lavish dinner with all their favorite dishes.

The car stopped, and Gabriel got out first, followed by Jessica.

Looking at everything in front of her, Jessica quickly composed herself.

Thinking back, she realized she hadn't been here since her grandfather passed away.

Thinking of her grandfather, Jessica felt a pang in her heart.

Gabriel stood straight beside her, his arm bent at an angle.

Seeing Jessica not react, Gabriel said, "Since we're putting on a show, let's do it right. Don't let them see through us."

Jessica nodded and took his arm.

The good-looking couple strolled in arm in arm. Seeing this, Danielle felt a pang of sadness. Such a perfect match, yet they had split. She felt she had let Xavier down by not keeping Gabriel and Jessica together.

She also felt she had let Gabriel down. Her own marriage was already a mess, and now her kid's marriage was falling apart too.

As they got closer, Danielle quickly pulled herself together.

She nudged Jonah's arm, whispering, "They're almost here. Don't let them see through us."

Since their son didn't want them to know about the divorce, they played along.

Even though the two were divorced, she still held onto a sliver of hope.

She hoped that one day, they could get back together and remarry.

During dinner, Danielle and Jonah chatted with Jessica.

Jonah noticed Jessica had lost weight and said, "Eat more. It's been a while since we last saw you, you've gotten so thin."

Jonah then looked at Gabriel and scolded, "Why has she lost weight? You can't even take care of his own wife?"

Jessica said, "Dad, don't blame Gabriel. He takes good care of me. It's just that I've been busy with work and staying up late, so I've lost some weight."

Danielle's eyes were filled with concern. "Your dad's right. He should be ashamed of not taking good care of his wife."

She glanced meaningfully at Jonah, who immediately lowered his head and stayed silent.

Danielle continued talking to Jessica, "Eat more. You're so thin now that a gust of wind could blow you away. If Xavier were still alive, he would be heartbroken to see you like this."

Mentioning Xavier made everyone somber.

Jessica's hand holding the fork trembled, her heart ached with a fine pain.

Yes, if Xavier were still alive, he would have made sure she was brought back here, watched her eat, and drink a bowl of soup.

He would only be satisfied if her weight reached a certain standard before letting her go.

But Xavier was no longer here.

Feeling a wave of sadness, Jessica lowered her head and ate the food on her plate.

Danielle looked at Gabriel again. "It's important for a man to work hard, but what's the point if it doesn't contribute to a happy wife? Work less overtime and focus more on your wife. Show your wife how much you appreciate her. I'm telling you, if you lose a good girl like Jessica, you won't find another."

Gabriel nodded vigorously, as if making a promise. "Mom, I know. Don't worry, I won't lose her."

"Good." Danielle nodded and looked at Jessica again. "Xavier is no longer here, but we'll always support you.my feelings for you are the same as his. If Gabriel does anything wrong, just tell me, and I'll deal with him for you."
