Chapter 320 Rumors
"She's acting like it's something to brag about, spreading it around like she's scared no one will find out. It's really shameless."
Another nurse jumped in, "Yeah, you really can't judge a book by its cover. I always thought she was so pure, but she was just faking it."
"Just wait, it'll be embarrassing when her belly gets big and she's still not married."
"I don't think she and her boyfriend will tie the knot anytime soon. Her so-called boyfriend hasn't even shown up."
Jessica's mood was so terrible that she simply stopped listening to what they were saying.
It wasn't until they left that Jessica pushed open the door and stumbled out.
She splashed some cold water on her face, trying to shake off the negativity.
When she left the restroom, she looked a bit lost.
She could ignore one person, maybe even two. But when everyone, including those she thought were close, were mocking and criticizing her, it was really hard to keep smiling.
Seeing Jessica come out looking unwell, Tina immediately went up to support her. "Jessica, what's wrong? Are you feeling okay? Why do you look so pale?"
"Tina." Jessica suddenly grabbed her hand, asking, "Do you think I'm terrible? I shouldn't have gotten pregnant, right? It seems like no one but me is looking forward to his arrival."
Even Gabriel wasn't looking forward to it at first.
Tina said, "Jessica, what are you talking about! I'm looking forward to it!"
"But everyone seems to be blaming me, and they even said..." Jessica's eyes dimmed.
Tina asked, "What did they say?"
"They said I got pregnant before getting married."
That really hurt, stabbing her heart painfully.
Tina grabbed Jessica's hand. "Jessica, they're just jealous of you. You don't need to take their words to heart. Who wouldn't go all out when love comes? Who wouldn't want to have a love child with the person they love?"
"Thank you, Tina!"
Because of the pregnancy, Jessica's work was rearranged.
She was now in the inpatient department, mainly responsible for rounds, following up on patients' conditions, and other related work, including daily consultations.
But she no longer needed to go to the operating room to learn.
Overall, her workload had lightened considerably.
However, influenced by those people, she was a bit distracted all afternoon and not as focused as before.
"Dr. Morgan, how's the patient in bed 5?"
"Dr. Morgan, hurry up, the patient in bed 8 is looking for you."
"Dr. Morgan..."
"Dr. Morgan..."
All afternoon, it seemed like almost everyone was calling her.
Jessica was very busy, running from one place to another.
Tina watched, feeling very sorry for her.
"Jessica." She brought a cup of water over and took the things from Jessica's hands. "Take a break; I'll handle this."
"Sorry to bother you, Tina."
Tina said, "Come on; we're friends. If you keep being so polite, I won't help you anymore."
An hour later, Tina pretended to be exhausted, hands on her hips. "Oh man, I'm so tired. Jessica, your boyfriend owes me two meals. I don't care about two meals, but how about he treats me today?"
"Today?" Jessica was caught off guard.
"Yeah, he wouldn't be so stingy as to not treat me to a meal, right?" Tina pouted playfully.
Jessica quickly explained, "No, it's not that. It's just that he's been super busy with work, and I haven't had a chance to tell him."
Tina said, "No problem, tell him now. I'm not in a hurry."
"Alright, I'll call him after work."
"Okay!" Tina nodded with a smile.
At five o'clock, Jessica looked at her phone, feeling a bit troubled.
Actually, she hadn't seriously told everyone about her boyfriend.
In fact, they had only recently decided to officially date.
Previously, Gabriel's gestures of picking her up and bringing her things had caused misunderstandings among colleagues. They were right; he always had Oscar pick her up at the door, never coming up himself.
So now, if she suddenly asked him to treat her colleague to a meal, would he agree?
When she dialed the number, Jessica felt a bit anxious, worried he would refuse.
So, her heart was pounding.
"Gabriel, are you here?"
"Yes, I'm waiting outside the hospital. Oscar is driving."
"Okay, I'll be out soon. But I want to ask you something. My colleague Tina, whom I've mentioned before, has been helping me a lot. I want to invite her to dinner with us, is that okay?" After asking, Jessica was extremely nervous.
She almost held her breath, waiting for Gabriel's response.
However, his voice soon came through. "Sure, tonight? I'll arrange it right away."
"Really? Gabriel, thank you." Jessica was surprised.
"Helping you is like helping me. It's only right to treat her to a meal. I remember I promised to treat her, but I've been so busy that I forgot. Tonight is a good opportunity," Gabriel said.
"Okay, I'll bring her along."
"No," Gabriel firmly denied, "You come with me. I'll send someone to pick her up."
"Ah? Is this really necessary?"
"You can trust me. I'll make sure your colleague is satisfied, okay?"
Jessica nodded, saying, "Alright, I'll be out soon."
"Okay, I'll wait for you."
After hanging up, Jessica walked over to Tina. "Tina, we're going to dinner tonight. My boyfriend is sending a car to pick you up. I'll give you the license plate number in a bit."
"Okay," Tina agreed readily.
"Then I'll head out first."
"Go ahead, I know you two are in love. Don't worry; I'll be there soon," Tina said.
"Alright, we'll wait for you at the restaurant."
Having settled this, Jessica felt much lighter as she walked out of the hospital.
But as she pondered those words, her heart was still heavy.
Plus, she hadn't eaten well at lunch, so she still looked a bit pale.
As soon as she got in the car, Gabriel noticed.
He put down his laptop and pulled her into his arms, asking, "What's wrong? Why do you look so pale?"
