Chapter 756 Provocation
Grace looked up, her eyes sharp as she stared at Ruby, unflinching.
Seeing Grace without a hint of guilt or fear, Ruby's anger only grew.
"What are you glaring at me for?"
"Am I wrong?"
"Grace, you're a cursed person. Every time Quentin gets involved with you, nothing good happens. There are so many men in the world; why don't you go find one of them? Why do you have to be his mistress?"
These words were as harsh as they could be.
In the past, Grace would have fought back immediately.
They had long since torn off the pretense and were at each other's throats.
So, Grace did not need to pretend anymore.
But today was different. Quentin's life was hanging by a thread, fighting in the operating room, and Grace didn't want to argue here.
So, she bit her lip, clenched her fists, and held back, not arguing with Ruby.
"Why aren't you saying anything?"
"Cat got your tongue? Or do you admit it yourself, so you can't come up with any excuses?"
Ruby's sarcasm came one after another, each word like a knife stabbing into Grace's heart.
Grace was in pain, but for Quentin's sake, she endured it.
But Grace was wrong.
Her retreat, her forbearance, didn't make Ruby stop. Instead, it gave Ruby an excuse to press harder, becoming even more aggressive.
Suddenly, Ruby's raised hand landed directly on Grace's face.
Willie reached out to stop it, but it was too late.
Grace couldn't bear it any longer.
She raised her eyes, her sharp gaze like a blade, "Mrs. Taft, don't go too far. Don't think I'm afraid of you."
"I'm warning you for the last time, if you dare to keep this up, don't blame me for being rude."
Ruby had always been in a superior position, never having been confronted like this.
Almost instantly, Ruby's anger reached its peak.
Ruby raised her arm again, speaking with extreme disdain.
"Grace, who do you think you are to lecture me?"
"If I don't teach you a lesson today, I..."
Seeing Ruby's hand about to come down again, Grace hadn't moved, but Willie intercepted Ruby's arm in the air.
"Mrs. Taft, I'm sorry."
"Mr. Taft cares deeply for Ms. Morgan, as you know. If Mr. Taft wakes up and finds out you attacked Ms. Morgan..."
Before Willie could finish, Ruby angrily pushed his hand away.
"Get out. Do you think you have the right to speak in front of me? You're just an assistant, how dare you be so bold?"
"I don't dare," Willie said, but he stood firmly in front of Grace, not budging an inch.
If Quentin woke up and found out Grace had been hit, Willie would be the first to be punished.
So, Willie had to do this.
"I'll say it again, get out!" Ruby raised her voice.
Willie stood straight as ever.
"Mrs. Taft, I know you're very angry, and as an assistant, I shouldn't offend you."
"But Mr. Taft instructed me to protect Ms. Morgan at all times and places. That's my duty."
Ruby was furious and waved her hand, about to order her people, but Willie spoke first.
"Mrs. Taft, I can't match your strength."
"But please think carefully. Because of Ms. Taft, Mr. Taft already has a grudge against you. If you do something excessive to Ms. Morgan today, your relationship with Mr. Taft will only become more distant."
"Do you really not care about your relationship with Mr. Taft at all?"
Willie's words carried weight.
Ruby's angry expression immediately calmed down a lot.
She lowered her hand and snorted coldly, "I'll let you off today. When Quentin wakes up, I'll definitely get rid of you, you bitch."
Grace looked at the light of the operating room, ignoring her.
As Quentin stayed in the operating room longer, everyone's hearts grew more worried and restless.
'Quentin, please, don't die. You have to make it through.'
Grace didn't dare to pace in front of the operating room, afraid her footsteps would disturb the doctors.
So she could only clasp her hands together, praying constantly.
Perhaps God heard her prayers.
Ten minutes later, the light in the operating room went out.
The doctor came out, excitedly removing his mask, "The surgery was successful. The bullet has been removed, but whether he wakes up depends on his will."
Grace immediately nodded excitedly, "Thank you, doctor."
Outside the VIP ward.
Two rows of people stood neatly in the hallway, guarding on both sides.
Quentin's ward was almost surrounded.
Grace wanted to go in, but as soon as she got close, she was stopped: "Without Mrs. Taft's permission, you can't get any closer."
"Why? You have no right to stop me."
The person snorted, "This isn't a place for reasoning. Get lost."
There were too many people guarding, and Quentin's condition wasn't good.
Grace weighed her options for a long time and decided to endure.
She didn't want to cause a scene; she just wanted to see him and let him rest well.
So she waited in the nearest place to the ward for a long time.
Because it was late at night, Grace was very tired.
Sitting in the chair, she fell asleep.
It wasn't until morning, when Willie came over after finishing work at the company, that he found Grace asleep in the chair.
Seeing this, Willie felt extremely guilty.
If Quentin saw this scene, he would be heartbroken.
"Ms. Morgan, wake up!" Willie called out softly.
"Ms. Morgan."
Perhaps she was sleeping deeply, and Willie's voice was cautious, so it took several calls for Grace to hear.
Grace slowly woke up, seeing Willie, she immediately opened her eyes, feeling much more alert.
"Ms. Morgan, you must be hungry. I brought you some breakfast, please eat something."
"How's Quentin? Has he woken up?"
Willie shook his head, "Not yet. Ms. Morgan, don't worry too much. I asked the doctor, it's normal for it to take seven or eight hours to wake up."
Hearing this, Grace, though anxious, finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Grace quickly ate breakfast and took the medicine she had from yesterday with some bottled water.
After doing all this, she spoke.
"Willie, Mrs. Taft has people guarding, not letting me in. Can you take me in?"
Willie looked at her guiltily, "I'm sorry, Ms. Morgan, I really can't."
"Why? If we have to, we can call all of Quentin's men. I don't believe we can't get in."
Willie shook his head. "Ms. Morgan, to be honest, the Taft family's situation is quite special."
