Chapter 644 Parting on Bad Terms
"Quentin's grandfather couldn't bear the death of his son and fell ill. He passed away shortly after. So, the burden of the Taft family fell entirely on Mrs. Taft. Over the years, she has become a shrewd businesswoman."
"To thank the Taft family and repay their kindness, she is committed to upholding the Taft family traditions."
"This has shaped Mrs. Taft's strong-willed personality."
After hearing this, Jessica felt even more troubled.
"Listening to you, I feel lucky to have met Grandpa and parents. They never looked down on me because of my background; instead, they accepted and embraced me."
"I am fortunate to have met them and the Walton family."
"But at the same time, I worry for Grace. The Taft family is like a pack of wolves. How can she marry into it?"
"Although Grace hasn't mentioned it, I can tell she likes Quentin."
Gabriel held Jessica's hand. "This matter can't be rushed; it can only be dealt with slowly."
"The most important thing right now is to make sure Mrs. Taft doesn't find out that Grace and Quentin are together. Otherwise, Mrs. Taft's methods will be very cruel."
"Okay," Jessica nodded.
Thinking of something, Jessica asked, "By the way, does Grace know about what you just said?"
"She might know a bit, like Mrs. Taft's methods, but not the specifics."
"My only wish now is that Grace doesn't get hurt again."
Oscar quickly booked a hotel for Grace.
Then he took Grace there.
"Thank you," Grace said to Oscar upon arriving at the hotel.
"Ms. Morgan, you're welcome. You are Mrs. Walton's friend; this is what I should do. By the way, Mr. Walton called and instructed that you must not appear at the hospital in the next few days."
"If Mrs. Taft finds out, it will be troublesome for you."
"Okay, I understand."
At night, Grace lay in bed, unable to sleep.
She shouldn't waste another moment worrying about Quentin. He had hurt her too deeply. There was no future for them; she needed to let him go completely.
But her heart had a mind of its own.
Perhaps she had loved him too fiercely, which was why memories of their passion still played in her mind like an old film, long after the credits had rolled.
"Quentin, some people are destined to be together."
"But between us, it feels like it's doomed from the start."
At five in the morning, Quentin woke up.
As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw Ruby sitting beside him.
Frowning, he asked coldly, "Why are you here?"
Ruby was furious.
Even though she was his Mom, he always treated her like an enemy.
"You almost died, do you think I wouldn't come?" Ruby retorted.
"I'm lucky, I didn't die."
"If your car had been a bit faster yesterday, you would have driven straight into the river and disappeared without a trace."
"But I didn't die, did I?"
The atmosphere between them became tense again.
"Alright, since I didn't die, you don't need to stay here," Quentin began to make her leave.
"No, you just woke up, I must stay. Can you stop treating me like an enemy?" Ruby said painfully.
"You know I'm your son, so can you stop treating me like a doormat just to achieve your goals?"
Ruby sighed painfully, "Quentin, you're young and don't understand my good intentions. I know you don't like Caroline, but feelings can develop. The Stewart family is the most suitable match for the Taft family in every aspect, and Caroline is my ideal daughter-in-law."
"Having Caroline as your wife is the best for you."
Quentin sneered, "It's not your place to decide what's best for me; that's up to me. I'll say it again, I have no feelings for Caroline and will never marry her."
"I'm not arguing with you. Since I could arrange your engagement, I can arrange your marriage."
Quentin scoffed, "You only care about power and status. Aren't you tired of living like this? Our Taft family today doesn't need to rely on anyone."
"So what?" Ruby sneered at him, "Don't think I don't know what you're up to. Grace is back, isn't she?"
"I warn you, if you get entangled with Grace again, it won't be a small lesson this time. I'll make her wish she was never born."
"You're really something!" Quentin retorted mercilessly.
Because he was angry, Quentin's wound started to hurt.
During the heated argument, he felt himself teetering on the edge of unconsciousness once more.
Fortunately, his physical resilience still held strong.
To ensure Quentin's health, Ruby left after confirming he was safe.
"Mrs. Taft, take care," Willie reminded respectfully as he saw Ruby off.
Two minutes later, Quentin shouted, "Willie!"
"Yes, Mr. Taft, I'm here."
"Did she know about my car accident?" Quentin asked with a cold expression, his tone somewhat fragile due to his injury.
Quentin no longer had the aggressive stance he had when arguing with Ruby.
Willie knew Quentin would ask about Grace, but he didn't expect the question to come so soon. This caught him off guard, leaving him momentarily hesitant.
"Answer me."
Willie had to reply, "Mr. Taft, we called Ms. Morgan as soon as you had the car accident."
"So you mean she knows?"
Willie lowered his head.
He felt the tension in the room rise, a palpable chill settling around them.Grace knew about Quentin's car accident.
But she didn't come to see him.
Quentin checked his phone again, no calls, no messages on Facebook.
So, Grace hated him. She wished he were dead, didn't she? Quentin felt an overwhelming distress, a deeper sense of oppression and discomfort settling in.
Knowing Quentin was upset, Willie quickly expressed, "Mr. Taft, I guess maybe the message wasn't conveyed to Ms. Morgan in time. Ms. Morgan might not know yet. How about this, I'll goand tell Ms. Morgan."
With that, Willie got ready to leave.
Quentin quickly stopped him, "Come back."
He believe she would know.
Grace either didn't care about him or didn't care about his injury.
She either wished he were dead.
But no matter which it was, he felt extremely agitated.
Grace used to love him so much, her heart and eyes were full of him. Even in her anger, her heart belonged to him alone.
Thinking about Grace's current behavior made him feel very uncomfortable.
"I warn you, don't go," Quentin ordered.
He wanted to see how long it would take for Grace to remember him and come to see him.
