Chapter 33 Be Good and Wait for Me at Home Tonight
Just as her lips were about to meet his, suddenly there was a loud thud – Diana had fallen from her wheelchair.
"I’ll be back tonight, just stay put and wait for me at home," he whispered into her ear, before pushing Jessica aside and rushing over to Diana. "Are you in pain? Did you hurt yourself anywhere?"
"My foot hurts so much," Diana whimpered, portraying the image of vulnerability. Gabriel lifted her gently back into the wheelchair and knelt to massage her ankle tenderly.
Such a tender scene!
Jessica’s heart might be strong, but she didn’t have the courage to watch any longer. She turned on her heel, not sparing them a glance, and started to walk away.
Suddenly, her wrist was seized.
Gabriel charged over to her like an arrow. "Did you hear what I just said?"
"So, what if I heard? What if I didn’t?"
"Fine, I'll say it again. Go home and wait for me tonight," Gabriel ordered.
Jessica shrugged off his grip and continued to walk away. Why should she wait obediently for him? Gabriel wasn’t her master, nor was she some pet called and dismissed at his whim. Why did she have to wait just because he said so?
For three long nights, she had waited for him on the living room sofa, until her heart turned cold, but he never showed up—not even a single phone call.
Obedient?
Hadn’t she been submissive enough in the past?
On this Valentine’s Day, if he could seek his “Aphrodite,” then why couldn’t she go out to find a "Cassanova" for herself?
She refused to go home. She was heading out.
"Keep a close eye on her," Gabriel instructed Oscar with utmost seriousness.
"Yes, Gabriel," Oscar acknowledged and sprinted after Jessica.
Gabriel gently massaged Diana's feet for a moment before asking, "Feeling any better? Do you need to take a trip to the hospital?"
"No need for that, Gabriel. You've got quite the magic touch. I'm feeling a lot better, the pain has almost gone away," Diana said sweet;y.
"Mm-hmm," Gabriel hummed in acknowledgement.
"So, can we continue shopping now?" Diana asked softly.
The mention of shopping instantly reminded Gabriel of the word "ring" that Diana had casually mentioned earlier.
With a frown and a serious tone, Gabriel looked at her and said, "You shouldn't have lied to her about the gift. She'll believe you."
"You mean the ring?" Diana inquired.
"Yes," Gabriel nodded. "You should know that until my divorce with her is final, I can't make any promises to you, and certainly won't be buying you a ring. I promised you a piece of jewelry, yes, but it could be anything except a ring."
Hearing his words, Diana's face turned pale in an instant.
Biting her lip, she looked at Gabriel with a pitiable gaze, "I didn't mean anything by it, I just thought, since we were here, we could take an early look."
"Diana, don't try to be clever," Gabriel rebuked, mildly.
She immediately nodded in acquiescence, "I understand, Gabriel. I promise not to do it again."
"As long as Jessica and I are still married, she's my wife in the eyes of the law. And you know her situation with Xavier. Even if we do get divorced, I won't just abandon her," Gabriel reminded her sternly.
"But if you're divorced, what else do you plan to do?" Diana retorted, slightly irritated. They had been a couple, but if they were still entangled after a divorce, when would her time to shine come?
"We'll cross that bridge when we get there," Gabriel said, cooly.
Oscar followed Jessica only to find that she had beelined straight for the jewelry store they had just visited.
"Please show me the ring that Diana and Timothy were looking at," Jessica said directly to the shop assistant.
Without delay, the assistant presented a ring.
Jessica glanced at it indifferently and asked, "This is the only one they looked at? Aren't there others?"
"Oh no, they looked at three rings in total," the assistant replied.
"Bring out the other two as well. I want to see them," Jessica ordered.
"Of course, just a moment," the assistant replied with a smile.
Soon, three rings lay glittering before Jessica.
She didn't realize until she saw them - Diana sure had high hopes. All three diamond rings, each boasting over ten carats, were dazzlingly bright.
Jessica couldn't fathom Gabriel's taste—how could he fall for such a gold-digger like Diana? The thought even sparked a fleeting sympathy for him in her mind.
"All right, I'll take all three. Wrap them up," Jessica declared with a wave of her hand.
"What?" The clerk's eyes almost popped out of their sockets as they turned to Jessica. "Miss, are you sure you want all three rings?"
"Yeah, all of them," Jessica nodded earnestly.
She then glanced at Oscar. "Charge it to your boss's card."
At that moment, Oscar's jaw nearly hit the floor, too astounded to speak for a good while. "Jessica, are you certain you want all three of these rings?" he finally managed to utter.
"Yep!" Jessica blinked her beautiful eyes innocently.
"But, this..." Oscar stuttered from the shock, "There... there are three!"
"Exactly, I'm aware," Jessica responded. "I'll wear a different one every other day, matched with various outfits and accessories. Is that a problem?"
"No, no problem." Oscar said, then hastily added, "But this is a substantial amount. I need to check with Gabriel."
Jessica cast him a casual glance before pulling out her wallet and handing a card to the clerk, "Use this one."
The transaction was processed, and the clerk promptly packaged the three diamond rings and handed them to Jessica with utmost respect.
Jessica shot a look at Oscar, who immediately picked up the bag.
Meanwhile, Gabriel received a text notification that Jessica had made a hefty charge on the card. If his memory served him right, this was the first time since their wedding that Jessica had spent his money.
Oscar, carrying the bag behind Jessica, felt a twinge of anxiety. If he wasn't mistaken, the jewelry from that brand was extremely expensive.
Three rings, all with sizable diamonds. Even estimating the price conservatively, they must cost several million. Yet Jessica didn't even blink before swiping the card. And that black card looked eerily familiar to him.
After the jewelry spree, hunger pangs hit Jessica hard. Fortunately, on the fifth floor, there was that popular revolving restaurant everyone raved about.
Due to Valentine's Day, it was full, with no vacant tables.
Feeling a bit dejected and about to leave, a server hung up the phone and turned to her, "Miss, a client just canceled last minute, and a private booth has opened up. Would you like to take it?"
"Sure," Jessica responded, happily.
Following the server to the booth, Jessica found a tranquil ambiance with a faint, pleasant fragrance.
Through the window, she could see the Great Bridge which was hosting a light show tonight. The vibrant colors flickered romantically across the bridge. It's no wonder the restaurant came highly recommended.
Before long, a feast for the senses was laid out on the table before her. Surrounded by delightful dishes and a mesmerizing view, Jessica's mood lifted considerably.
Yet, a mere glance over her shoulder caused her spirit to plummet. Gabriel and Diana had just entered through the door.
