Chapter 165 Irresistible Gentleness

Three minutes later.

When Jessica opened the door and saw Gabriel standing outside, she was a bit surprised.

"What are you doing here?" Asked Jessica.

"Didn't you say you twisted your ankle?" Gabriel said.

Originally, he was very angry when he saw her with Vincent.

But when he heard she was injured, his anger suddenly disappeared.

He just wanted to come up quickly to see her and check on her injury.

Suddenly, Jessica felt herself being lifted, and the next moment, Gabriel was carrying her.

He carried her straight to the sofa and then put her down.

At that moment, Jessica felt he was more familiar with her home than she was.

And he was so gentle and considerate all of a sudden, she was really a bit overwhelmed.

"Where's the injury? Let me see." Gabriel squatted down and reached out to take off her shoes to check the injury.

Jessica quickly pulled her foot back, feeling embarrassed. "No need, it just hurt a bit when I twisted it. I checked, it's not very serious."

"Not very serious? How serious is that?"

After saying that, he still insisted and grabbed Jessica's foot.

He was strong and held tightly, Jessica couldn't move at all and had to let him take off her slippers.

Then, her socks.

As soon as the socks came off, Gabriel laid eyes on the injury on her ankle.

Almost instantly, his expression darkened, and his voice lowered. "It's so red and swollen, and you're saying it's not serious?"

Jessica replied softly, "I just applied some ointment. It should be better by tomorrow morning."

"Do you think such a big swelling will go down overnight?" Gabriel retorted.

Jessica remained silent.

She quietly touched her nose and said nothing.

"What ointment did you use? Let me see." Gabriel asked.

Jessica pointed to the ointment on the table. Gabriel picked it up, glanced at it, and then threw it back on the table.

Then he called Oscar. "Bring me some effective medicine to Jessica's place."

After hanging up, Oscar was still pondering the last sentence.

To Jessica's place?

So, Gabriel had left in such a hurry today to see his ex-wife?

Thinking of this, Oscar got excited. It appeared that Mr. Walton and Ms. Morgan were reconciling, prompting him to swiftly deliver the medicine without delaying Mr. Walton.

Half an hour later, Oscar knocked on Jessica's door.

Gabriel opened the door. Oscar wanted to greet him, but he took the medical kit without saying a word and closed the door.

Oscar was left looking at the closed door, sighing, "Mr. Walton, I just wanted to mention that there might be a storm coming soon. Please take care."

But on the way down the elevator, Oscar thought it was good he didn't say anything.

After half an hour of icing, Jessica's swelling had reduced a bit but was still very red.

Gabriel pressed it and asked, "Does it hurt?"

"It's okay."

However, after pressing a few more times, Jessica couldn't help but cry out, "Ouch! It hurts."

Gabriel then explained, "It's still red, it must hurt. You didn't feel the pain just now because of the icing. Now that the coldness is fading, it naturally hurts. This medicine is good. I'll apply some for you, and you can apply it again before bed."

"Okay."

After applying the medicine, Jessica immediately felt a cool sensation on her ankle. It seemed to be doing a good job relieving the pain and making it much more comfortable.

After finishing, Gabriel picked up Jessica's slippers, ready to put them on for her.

Jessica quickly took them. "I'll do it myself!"

During their marriage, he had never bothered to remove her socks or shoes. Hence, she never anticipated that after their separation, he would willingly perform these gestures.

It was surprising, but just that—surprising.

She no longer had the courage to associate these actions with words like "like" or "love."

Gabriel had packed up the medical kit and was about to close it when his eyes fell on the box of ointment on the table.

Staring at it for a long time, he asked, "Did you apply this ointment yourself, or did he do it for you?"

'He?' Jessica was stunned for a moment and then realized that Gabriel was referring to Vincent.

A sharp pain hit her heart, but she quickly covered it up.

Jessica lowered her eyelashes and said softly, "Do you think I'm such a frivolous woman? Even if we were just a normal couple breaking up, there wouldn't be such a quick rebound. Gabriel, do you think I'm already with Vincent?"

"We just got divorced a few days ago. Vincent picked you up from work and took you home. What am I supposed to make of that?" Gabriel instantly regretted his words.

He had always taken pride in his high emotional and intellectual intelligence, qualities he held in high regard. However, when it came to issues involving her and Vincent, his intelligence seemed to plummet to zero.

Neither of them spoke, and the air became quiet.

He looked at the time; it was already 10 PM.

Even if he didn't want to, Gabriel had to leave.

"I'll go home now. You rest well," uttered Gabriel.

"I'll see you off."

They walked to the door together. Gabriel opened the door and was about to leave when a loud thunderclap struck, sounding like it was splitting the sky.

Hearing the thunder, Jessica covered her ears instinctively.

Gabriel immediately remembered her fear of thunder and asked, "Are you scared?"

"A little," Jessica admitted.

Gabriel opened his mouth, about to say, "How about I..."

But before he could finish, Jessica pursed her lips and said, "But I have to get used to it sooner or later. After experiencing it a few more times, I shouldn't be scared anymore. It's raining heavily outside. Do you have an umbrella?"

Gabriel shook his head.

"Wait a moment, I'll get you an umbrella. Otherwise, you'll get soaked going downstairs," Jessica continued.

"Okay."

At that moment, he really hoped she wouldn't find an umbrella.

After a few minutes, Jessica came out, looking embarrassed, and stated, "I think I forgot to take my umbrella when I left your place that day."

"Do you only have one umbrella?" Gabriel asked.

Jessica nodded. "Yes, just one."

Outside, the wind was howling, and the rain was getting heavier, even making the windows rattle.

Jessica glanced at it, looking worried.

Suddenly, she thought of something and said, "How about asking Oscar to make another trip and bring you an umbrella?"

Gabriel's eyes darkened. "I'll try."

But Oscar's phone was off.

Immediately when Gabriel put down his phone without saying a word, Jessica asked, "What happened?"

"His phone is off," he replied.
