Chapter 127 Jessica Falls into a Coma

Jessica was in a daze; she seemed to hear his words, yet at the same time, she didn't.

She could only feel Gabriel holding her hand tightly and speaking incessantly. His expression was one of deep worry and concern.

Jessica muttered, "I’m cold, Gabriel, I'm so cold."

Without a second thought, Gabriel slipped under the covers and held her in his arms.

"So cold..." Jessica kept murmuring, her body shivering uncontrollably. Her face and lips were pale and devoid of any color.

Gabriel's heart ached as he watched her.

He comforted her. "Jessica, don't be afraid, I'm here with you. You'll be alright."

Gabriel held her tightly, his cheek pressed against hers to warm her.

After about ten minutes, Jessica finally stopped saying she was cold, and her body began to warm up a bit.

Jessica closed her eyes, perhaps because she was exhausted. Her long lashes fluttered, and she fell into a light sleep.

Now that warmth was returning to her body, her complexion gradually improved, gaining a bit of color and losing the ghastly pallor.

Gabriel lowered his head and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. "Sleep well, I'm here with you."

Only then did his heart calm a little, though he was still deeply worried. His brow furrowed tightly as he recalled how she had vomited blood in the bathroom.

"How is the traffic situation? Are they almost here?" Gabriel asked.

He would only be at ease when the doctor arrived and personally assured him that Jessica was fine.

The servant replied, "It's fine, the doctor should be here soon."

Gabriel nodded. "Okay."

Jessica was restless in her sleep; she kept moaning in pain.

"Hot." Suddenly, she began to tug at her clothes and kick off the covers, her legs flailing wildly.

Gabriel reached out and felt her burning skin; her temperature had soared to nearly 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

How could this be?

She had been freezing just moments ago, and now she was burning with fever.

Gabriel's anxiety grew, sweat beading on his forehead.

Given Jessica's severe condition, he didn't dare give her any fever medicine rashly and had to wait for the doctor.

Jessica had thrown off all the covers, yet she was still sweating profusely. Her hair and clothes were soaked.

Gabriel instructed, "Quick, run some water, make sure it's not too cold or too hot."

Once the water was ready, Gabriel carried Jessica to the bathroom.

Jessica seemed a bit more comfortable after he had bathed her and changed her into clean, fresh clothes.

She was completely disoriented, perhaps due to the high fever. Her thoughts were muddled, and she was unable to open her eyes.

Gabriel was extremely anxious, but fortunately, the doctor arrived just then.

After examining Jessica, the doctor diagnosed it as a severe cold. It was complicated and aggressive, causing her to alternate between chills and fever.

Moreover, Jessica had just been discharged from the hospital after the car accident, and her body still weak and not fully recovered. She hadn't eaten all day, lacked nutrition, and had been exposed to cold wind, making the cold particularly severe.

After taking cold medicine and receiving an IV, Jessica's temperature dropped significantly, and she finally felt some relief.

Closing her eyes, she drifted into a hazy sleep.

She slept relatively soundly, perhaps the medicine was taking effect, and she was feeling better.

After a while, Loren arrived, and Gabriel let the doctor go.

"Take a look at her," Gabriel said.

"Alright." Loren set down the medical kit and walked over to Jessica.

After examining her, Loren's conclusion was the same as the doctor's earlier diagnosis.

"When will she get better?" Gabriel frowned.

Loren replied, "It depends. If her fever breaks today, and she rests well and gets proper nutrition, three or four days should suffice. If not, it could take a week or more, and it might recur."

Gabriel nodded. "Alright, I understand."

Once Jessica's IV had finished, she slept soundly. Gabriel turned off the main lights in the room, leaving only a wall lamp on.

He tucked Jessica in carefully and kissed her forehead. "I'm stepping out for a bit, but I'll be right back."

When Gabriel stepped out, Loren was leaning against the second-floor railing, exuding an air of elegance and aloofness. He wore gold-rimmed glasses, which only added to his unapproachable demeanor.

Gabriel handed him a cigar and lit one for himself.

Soon, the room was filled with swirling smoke, and the two equally distinguished faces became hazy within it.

"Are you planning to leave again after this?" Gabriel was the first to speak.

Loren flicked the ash from his cigarette and replied, "Not right now."

He was a renowned surgeon who had been studying abroad for years and had just returned after completing his training.

"Is that the wife you married a couple of years ago?" Loren asked.

Those who were close to Gabriel knew about his marriage. However, since he had been reluctant to get married, he had only mentioned it briefly. There had been no wedding photos or wedding ceremony, so Loren had never seen Jessica before today.

"Yes." Gabriel nodded.

Loren said, "I haven't had the chance to congratulate you. So, belated congratulations on your marriage..."

Before Loren could finish his congratulations, Gabriel interrupted. "No need."

Gabriel then explained, "We're getting a divorce."

After a moment of surprise, Loren's expression returned to normal. Xavier had forced the marriage, and Gabriel's true affection lay with Diana. Now that Xavier was gone, it was only natural for Gabriel to seek a divorce.

So, it wasn't surprising.

Perhaps sensing Loren's thoughts, Gabriel smiled bitterly and said, "She asked for it, very decisively."

Yes, very decisively.

She was determined to separate from him at all costs.

"She asked for it?" Loren was quite surprised. "Why?"

"It's a long story." Gabriel took a deep drag on his cigarette, letting the smoke envelop him. "Maybe it's because of Diana, maybe not."

"From your tone, it seems you don't want the divorce. Isn't this what you wanted? Once you're divorced, you can be with Diana," Loren said.

Although he had no particular fondness for Diana, he was stating the facts.

At the mention of 'Diana', Gabriel felt an inexplicable irritation in his chest. He stubbed out his cigar and lit another, taking a deep drag and exhaling a white plume of smoke.

Gabriel then said, "I don't want a divorce, and I've never thought about getting back together with Diana."

He hadn't considered either of those things.

That answer genuinely surprised Loren. "You don't want to be with Diana? Are you sure?"

"Yes." Gabriel nodded firmly.

When Loren saw the expression on his face, he suddenly asked, "Have you ever wondered why you don't want to be with Diana?"
