Chapter 500 Jessica is Framed 1
In the car, Jessica had regained some composure, but the underlying fear remained.
Hearing the police's voice, she instinctively took a deep breath and tightened her grip on the seatbelt.
Louie observed all these actions silently.
Outside the car, a police officer in uniform was approaching.
From outside, the police officer's voice came through. "Hello, are you Ms. Morgan? We just received a report suspecting you are involved in a murder case in room 505 of the Pinewood Hotel. Please come with us to the station for investigation."
Jessica didn't respond, her grip tightening even more.
"Mrs. Walton, if you're scared or don't want to go, I can take you away from here right now."
Inside the car, Jessica remained silent.
Not getting any response, the police outside grew more urgent. "I'll repeat, please roll down the window."
"I'll give you five minutes. If you don't come out of the car in five minutes, don't blame us for taking action."
Hearing this, Louie got angry.
He rolled down the window, looking like he was ready to confront the police. "What did you say?"
Jessica pulled him back and looked at the police. "Thank you. Please give me five minutes."
After speaking, she rolled up the window.
Then Jessica looked at Louie. "They're just doing their job. It's their duty. There's no need to get angry with them; it won't help anyway."
"The priority is to find proof of my innocence."
"It's just a trip to the police station. It's okay. I can handle it."
But Louie didn't think so.
He could tell that Jessica was scared.
And her voice was still trembling.
Moreover, Jessica was pregnant, and the police station's interrogations often took place at night, one after another, which was a tremendous challenge not only physically but also mentally.
He was worried Jessica might get hurt in the police station.
"Mrs. Walton, we can leave here first and submit the evidence to the police later, can't we?" Louie asked.
Jessica shook her head, a bitter smile appearing on her pale face.
"Of course not. If I leave now, it would be seen as fleeing from guilt."
"And it would implicate you. There are police outside. Even if you were very capable, it's impossible to leave safely. I need to be responsible for myself, for you, and for my baby."
Louie felt extremely guilty. "Is there no other way? Do I have to watch you get taken away?"
"Don't worry. Before Carolyn wakes up, they are just suspecting. They won't do anything to me. You need to listen carefully to every word I say and follow my instructions."
"Mrs. Walton, tell me. I'll make sure to do everything you ask."
Jessica said slowly, "First, tell my father-in-law everything tomorrow and say I want to see him; second, find evidence with all your might. This is the fastest and most effective way to get me out."
"Third, while I'm not home these days, Freddy and Gilbert will surely miss me. If they ask, just say I have some matters to attend to and will be back in a while."
"Freddy and Gilbert are very smart. Don't say too much. Saying too much will make it easier for them to see through."
"Do you remember everything I said?"
Louie nodded. "Mrs. Walton, don't worry. I remember everything clearly."
"Alright. Lastly, take off your sunglasses for a moment."
"Okay, Mrs. Walton."
Louie didn't question and did as told.
Seeing the face that resembled Gabriel's, Jessica smiled slowly. "That's enough, thank you."
'Gabriel, don't worry. I'll be strong when you're not around.'
'I will be fine. I'll protect myself and our baby and wait for you to come back.' Jessica thought.
After giving all the instructions, Jessica opened the door and stepped out.
Outside, the police were already waiting.
Soon, she got into the police car and went to the station.
Perhaps because Carolyn's injuries were severe, Jessica was immediately interrogated upon arrival.
In the interrogation room, Jessica sat alone on a chair, facing three people, all with serious expressions, their sharp eyes fixed on her face, not wanting to miss any expression.
"Jessica, we'll start the routine questioning now. First question: did you stab Carolyn in the abdomen?"
"No, Carolyn stabbed herself."
"Did you cause the injury on Carolyn's head?"
"No, Carolyn caused it herself, too."
Not getting the answers they wanted from the first two questions, the interrogators started changing their tactics, using various questioning methods and trying to find flaws in Jessica's answers.
However, Jessica kept her hands tightly clenched and remained calm throughout.
Jessica answered each question without giving anything away.
After a long hour of interrogation, Jessica was taken away for temporary detention.
The officers walked out of the interrogation room, discussing as they went.
"What do you think? Does it look like she did it?"
A colleague rubbed his temples, full of frustration. "Hard to say. She was very calm just now, almost every answer was flawless. Based on my years of experience, people who act like this usually fall into two categories: either they're perfectly faking it, or they're truly innocent."
"Which do you lean towards?"
"The victim is being treated. Once Carolyn wakes up, many things will become clear."
"You're right."
After Jessica was taken away, Louie immediately headed to the hospital.
He rushed in, found Tina, and roughly explained everything.
Finally, he said, "I remember you have a friend named Vincent, who is a police officer. Can we ask him for help?"
"Okay, I'll call him right away."
Tina immediately dialed Vincent's number.
Tina called Vincent several times, but there was no answer.
"Didn't he answer the call?" Louie asked anxiously.
"Yes, I heard he's on a mission out of town these days and might not have his phone with him. I left him a message. He'll get back to me as soon as he sees it."
"Okay, thank you, Dr. Ingram."
"You're welcome. Jessica is my friend. It's what I should do. Can we visit her now? I want to see her."
"Probably not today, but tomorrow should be fine."
Vincent finished his mission around 10 PM. As soon as he got his phone, he saw several missed calls from Tina.
Vincent swiped his phone and immediately saw her message.
[Vincent, urgent, Jessica is in trouble and is now at the police station. If you see this message, please get back to me immediately.]
A voice called out to Vincent. "Mr. Lucas, come on, let's grab a late-night snack."
"I have something urgent, can't go. You guys go ahead."
Saying this, Vincent put on his jacket and quickly ran out.
