Chapter 492 Uncovering the Truth, No Mercy
"Okay."
Tina sat back down.
Outside the car window, the rain continued to pound fiercely, with large raindrops splashing on the ground, creating ripples.
Inside the car, it became quiet for a moment, with only soft music lingering in the air.
Tina lowered her head, gently fiddling with her fingers, trying to mask her inner turmoil.
Perhaps it was because the space was too confined, or maybe because Tina and Vincent had never been alone in such a quiet, enclosed space before, she felt especially nervous.
Even the sound of her heartbeat seemed clear, one beat after another.
"Vincent!"
"Dr. Ingram!"
Suddenly, Tina and Vincent spoke at the same time.
Surprised by their synchronicity, they looked at each other and smiled lightly.
"You go first," Vincent made a gentlemanly gesture.
"It's nothing. It's just that the rain doesn't seem like it's going to stop anytime soon. Maybe I should head back first, so I don't hold you up."
Vincent gently reassured her, "It's fine. I have nothing planned today, so don't worry."
"Alright."
At this moment, Vincent presented a pack of cigarettes to Tina, "Do you mind if I smoke?"
"Not at all!"
Vincent rolled down the car window a bit and then lit his cigarette.
He smoked in silence, his posture fixed, with one hand resting on the window and the other holding the cigarette, taking occasional puffs.
Before long, the car filled with some smoke.
Through the hazy smoke, Tina noticed his furrowed brow, deep like a ravine.
She wished she could smooth out that wrinkle for him.
The rain continued to fall.
Half an hour passed quickly, and Tina felt embarrassed to keep taking up his time.
At that moment, Vincent took off his jacket and handed it to her, "Put this over your head so you don't catch a cold from the rain."
"What about you?"
"I'll be fine. Someone will come with an umbrella to pick me up when I get home."
"Vincent, thank you. I'll head back now."
"Alright."
With his jacket over her head and her small leather bag slung across her body, Tina quickly ran towards the apartment complex.
Due to the heavy and sudden rain, the puddles on the road were already filled with water.
As Tina ran back, some muddy water inevitably splashed onto her.
When she got home and turned on the light, she realized that not only her dress but also Vincent's jacket had some mud on it.
Seeing those spots of mud, Tina felt sorry.
She immediately fetched some water and started to clean it seriously.
It was during this cleaning process that a bold idea suddenly came to her mind.
Jessica and Oscar went to see Danielle together.
After inquiring about Danielle's condition and learning that there was no significant improvement, she could sense Jonah was feeling a bit down.
But there were some things Jessica needed to say.
"Dad, I want to talk to you," Jessica began.
Jonah looked at Oscar, "Can you look after Mrs. Danielle Walton?"
After saying that, he took Jessica to another adjoining room.
With the curtains drawn, the room immediately felt bright and clear.
Jonah poured a glass of water for Jessica, "How is your recovery? Is the baby okay?"
Jessica smiled and touched her belly, "Dad, don't worry. The baby and I are both fine."
"And this is Gabriel's and my baby. No matter what, I will protect it. He loves daughters so much; he'll be so happy when he comes back."
"Jessica," Jonah looked at her happy expression, unable to bring himself to tell her the truth.
"Dad, although I know the process might be long, as long as I can wait for Gabriel, it's all worth it to me."
Hearing Jessica say this, Jonah could no longer remain calm.
With trembling lips, his weathered face turned towards Jessica, "Jessica, you already know, don't you?"
Jessica nodded, "Yes, Dad, I know everything. You already know too, don't you?"
Jonah nodded heavily.
"I'm sorry!"
At that moment, Jessica and Jonah spoke simultaneously.
They both expressed deep apologies for keeping things from each other.
"Dad, I know our intentions were the same, not wanting the other to worry."
"You're right. I was afraid you couldn't handle the truth."
With a bittersweet smile, Jessica said, "I can't handle it, even now. But what can I do? I have to make myself accept it."
"Dad, you've been so focused on Mom these days that you might not have paid much attention to what's happening outside. The news about Gabriel's accident has already been released. The company is in chaos; all operations have come to a halt, and the stock is plummeting. I came to ask if you could return to the company to take charge."
"Okay," Jonah nodded, "I'll change my clothes and head back to the company with Oscar right away."
"Dad!"
Jessica was genuinely surprised by Jonah's quick agreement.
She knew Jonah hadn't been involved in the company's affairs for many years.
Jonah wasn't very willing to go back to managing the company either.
She had thought she would have to persuade him, but Jonah agreed so readily.
Seeing her confusion, Jonah explained, "Gabriel is missing, your mom is in the hospital, and the company is not only their concern but also your grandfather's lifelong effort. For their sake, I will protect the company."
"Otherwise, how could I face Danielle when she wakes up?"
"Thank you, Dad!" Jessica said sincerely.
"No need to thank me. It's my responsibility."
Suddenly, Jonah looked at Jessica, "Jessica, are you investigating your mom's car accident and Gabriel's plane crash?"
"Yes!"
Although she had her suspicions, considering her position, she couldn't confidently tell Jonah that it was all caused by Patricia and Jack without solid evidence.
But Jonah asked, "Any news?"
"Some."
Jessica didn't hide anything and told him the truth.
"Jessica, you already have suspects in mind, don't you? Can you tell me?"
This question indeed made Jessica feel very conflicted.
She remained silent, not knowing how to start.
Finally, Jonah broke the silence, "Even if you don't say it, I know. You suspect Patricia and Jack, right?"
"Don't worry, I'm not going to cover for them. The reason I'm asking you today is to tell you personally that if there's evidence proving Patricia and Jack are responsible, I will make sure Danielle and Gabriel get the justice they deserve."
"I won't be lenient. I'll personally send them to prison to face the consequences of their actions."
"Dad, do you mean that?" Jessica looked up at him.
