Chapter 305 Embracing You 2
In that moment, her heart felt warmer than any sunny day, more gentle and beautiful.
At that moment, Jessica thought, 'At least I can hold onto this beautiful moment.'
Hearing the noise, Gabriel spun around and saw Jessica standing there, her face glowing, smiling so brightly and freely.
That smile was truly captivating, truly beautiful.
But all he felt was the joy and excitement of seeing her.
He thought that smile was pure happiness.
He missed the deep sadness behind it.
"Jessica."
Gabriel called her name, running over and hugging her tightly.
He hugged her so tight, like he wanted to merge her into himself, so tight that Jessica almost couldn't breathe, but she still loved it.
If this was her last bit of happiness, she thought she'd rather die in his arms.
She didn't remember how long they hugged before Gabriel let her go.
He noticed she wasn't wearing shoes or a coat, and her head was bleeding. He frowned instantly.
But she didn't explain, and he didn't ask.
He just took off his coat and wrapped her up, then bent down and picked her up.
Jessica leaned into his arms, holding his neck tightly with both hands, pressing her head against his chest, listening to his heartbeat.
She thought, as long as she could listen for one more second, it was good.
In the car, Gabriel told the driver to crank the heat up.
Jessica wasn't wearing a coat or shoes, and her feet were red from the cold, freezing cold.
So, even with the heat on, she was still shivering. More importantly, her heart was extremely cold.
Gabriel took off his coat and gently put it on Jessica, tightening the collar, then reached out and gently held her feet.
But as soon as his hand touched her feet, Jessica pulled them away.
"They're really cold and dirty from the ground," she whispered.
"Silly, do you think I care about that?"
Gabriel said, reaching out again. This time, he was quick and firm, placing her foot in his hand.
He massaged it, warming it up.
His hand was so warm that she didn't want to let go once she touched it.
What to do?
She was so greedy for this warmth, not wanting to let go at all.
On the way, Jessica stayed silent. With Gabriel's warmth, her body gradually warmed up. But even though her body was warm, her heart was still cold.
"I'm sorry, Gabriel, really sorry."
She looked at him, having said sorry a hundred, a thousand times in her heart, but even so, it couldn't make up for the guilt in her heart.
Jessica's head was still injured, and some parts of her forehead were already bloody. But fortunately, the bleeding had stopped, though the scabs looked alarming.
As for her body, her arms, her neck, they all had blue bruises and red scratches.
But she didn't want him to see these, she covered them tightly.
At a turn, the car arrived at the hospital.
Gabriel was about to carry Jessica out, but Jessica shook her head vigorously as soon as she saw it.
She grabbed Gabriel's clothes and retreated into his arms, asking in a trembling voice, "Why are we at the hospital?"
"Your head's pretty banged up, we need to get it checked out," he said softly.
But Jessica was having none of it.
She just shook her head, firmly refusing, "No, I don't want to go."
"I'll carry you up to treat the wound. Don't you care about your looks the most? If we treat it, your forehead will heal faster and won't leave a scar," Gabriel coaxed gently.
But Jessica still shook her head, refusing, "No, I don't want to go. I want to go home, okay?"
Her tone was so soft.
Her gaze at him was even more filled with weakness, looking so pitiful.
Even though he knew it wasn't right, Gabriel still nodded.
Tightening his arms, he hugged her tightly again, agreeing, "Okay, then we'll go home."
"Really?" Jessica's eyes lit up, tears of joy streaming down her face.
"Yes, we'll go home, nowhere else, especially not the hospital."
Hearing this, Jessica's tears flowed even more.
Gabriel wiped her tears, coaxing as he did, "Alright, don't cry. They say women in love always have a face full of joy, but why has my Jessica become so sentimental?"
He was trying to cheer her up.
Jessica knew he was comforting her.
But hearing him say this, Jessica couldn't hold back and cried even harder.
"Don't cry. You're breaking my heart." He smiled, continuing to wipe her tears.
Leaning in his arms for a while, calming down, Jessica felt a bit better.
As the car approached a traffic light, Jessica spoke softly, "I don't want to go to Grace's house, but I want to go to yours, okay?"
Gabriel was thrilled and immediately nodded, "Okay."
Then, Jessica leaned into his arms, feeling a bit drowsy.
She said she was sleeping, but how could she sleep? She just closed her eyes.
Whenever she thought of those scenes, her heart ached uncontrollably.
Even breathing felt like breathing in a mouthful of knives.
So painful.
Unable to sleep, Jessica simply opened her eyes.
One minute, two minutes, three minutes...
Finally, she mustered up the courage, looking at Gabriel, and said the words she had always wanted to say, "Gabriel, I'm sorry."
As soon as she finished speaking, her tears fell uncontrollably.
"Silly, why are you suddenly saying sorry to me?"
He was so gentle.
But the gentler he was and the more he tolerated her, the more Jessica felt sorry for him, and the more she wanted to cry.
Jessica cried, "Gabriel, I'm sorry. I'm late. I said I'd meet you at nine, but I came late. I said I'd spend New Year's Eve with you, but I broke my promise. I'm sorry I couldn't spend New Year's Eve with you."
"Silly." He lowered his head and kissed her forehead.
"This is all? I thought it was something serious. It's just a New Year's Eve. If we miss this year, there's next year and the year after. We can spend every year together; if we miss New Year's, there's Easter, so it's no big deal." He gently comforted.
"But, I'm not just talking about this, there's also..."
Thinking of the words she was about to say, Jessica's heart ached like a knife.
Taking a deep breath, she changed her approach, "I'm injured, and I broke my promise. Don't you want to know why I came so late?"
