Chapter 353 Jessica, I Miss You So Much
Gabriel had been holed up in that room for hours. The floor was littered with cigarette butts. The air was thick with smoke.
Charlotte had come up a bunch of times, seeing the door shut and smoke creeping out, and it broke her heart.
She lost count of how many times she'd come up before she finally turned to Danielle. "Mrs. Walton, how much longer can Mr. Walton keep this up? Why don't you go up and comfort him? It's killing me to see him like this."
"Right now, he's in a lot of pain and sorrow, but he's got to deal with it on his own. No one can share it with him, no one can truly understand. Only he knows what he's going through."
"But if you stay with him and say a few comforting words, Mr. Walton might feel a bit better and blame himself less," Charlotte said, clearly distressed.
Danielle closed her book and calmly said, "No need. I believe in my son, always. After the pain, I know he'll pull himself together and rise again."
With that, she quickly turned and went upstairs, her eyes already filled with tears.
Danielle stopped outside the door, her heart breaking at the sight of Gabriel. She wished she could bear all the pain herself, but some pains are destined to be endured by him alone. No one could help, not even his mother.
Through the crack, she watched her son, covering her mouth tightly, not making a sound, not disturbing him. She just stood there silently, watching, being there for him.
The window was open, and cold air blew in. Suddenly, a clear sound came to Gabriel's ears, followed by another, and then another. The sound was crisp, clear, and very pleasant. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was the sound of melting snow dripping from the window.
'Jessica, look, the weather is warming up, the snow is melting.
'Where are you? When can I see you and the babies again?
'I miss you so much, do you miss me too?' Gabriel stared at the dripping snow. His eyes were still filled with a vast expanse of white snow, covering almost the entire world.
Closing his eyes, he could still clearly recall the scene in the snow that day: her every single smile, her voice, her face, her lips, that slightly cold yet romantic kiss. He could still hear her playful words: "Honey, I'm tired, can you carry me back?"
Everything was so familiar, so clear. It felt like it had just happened. How could she be gone in the blink of an eye?
Chelsea dared to say Jessica didn't love him. How could that be? His Jessica loved him deeply. She sacrificed so much for him, always putting his well-being above her own. She loved him, loved her grandfather, and loved the Walton family.
But what had he done for her? At that moment, Gabriel suddenly cleared his mind. They were not over at all, there still stood a chance for him to make things right. As long as the Walton family and the Walton Group recovered, he would go find her.
If a week wasn't enough, then a month. If a month wasn't enough, then a year. If a year wasn't enough, then year after year, until he found her. By then, he would be ready to bring her and the babies home.
"Jessica, wait for me, okay? Once everything is settled, I will fly to you."
With renewed determination, Gabriel headed to the bathroom to freshen up.
When he finished shaving and changed into a black suit, stepping out in his leather shoes, Danielle finally showed a relieved smile when she heard the crisp sound of his shoes on the floor.
She knew her son wouldn't stay down forever. He would pull himself together and find a way to rise again. Even if he failed, it didn't matter—she would always stand by him.
Silently turning around, Danielle returned to her room.
Gabriel took a deep breath and stepped outside, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. On the way to the Walton Group, his phone rang. It was Oscar."Mr. Walton, some media have leaked that our group is short on funds, and the stock is plummeting," Oscar reported.
Gabriel glanced at the stock chart on his phone. Indeed, the stock was tanking. But this time, he was much calmer than before.
"Send the three copies of documents on my desk to the Haugen family," he ordered in a steady voice.
"Mr. Walton, are you going to the Haugen family? But it seems this news was exactly leaked by the Haugen family."
"I know," Gabriel replied. "That's why I need to go."
Soon, Gabriel arrived at the Haugen family estate. The car stopped at the entrance, and the response he received was as expected.
"Mr. Walton, sorry, Mr. Haugen is unwell today and cannot see guests."
Gabriel responded calmly, "I know, but I'm not here to see Mr. Haugen, I'm here to see Ms. Haugen."
"Ms. Haugen?" The butler, Eliseo, was clearly taken aback but quickly recovered. "Ms. Haugen is in a bad mood today and doesn't want to see any guests, either."
"Go tell Ms. Haugen that I know I was wrong. I guarantee her mood will improve immediately."
Eliseo went upstairs, half-believing.
Meanwhile, by the outdoor pool on the second floor, Chelsea was having tea and playing chess with Rolf. When Eliseo approached, she looked up with a hint of pride. "He's here?"
"Yes, Ms. Haugen, the car is at the entrance. He won't come in without your permission."
"Did he say anything?" Chelsea asked.
Eliseo immediately reported, "Mr. Walton said he knows he was wrong."
To his surprise, Chelsea rapidly threw down her chess piece and ran downstairs excitedly, asking in disbelief, "Really? Did he really say that?"
"Yes, exactly."
"Grandpa, I won. See, just a little pressure and he came to see me."
Seeing his granddaughter so happy, Rolf smiled indulgently. "Take it easy. Let the servants invite him in."
"No, I want to greet him personally." Chelsea quickly reached the entrance.
Gabriel was already out of the car, waiting.
Seeing him, she happily skipped over and hooked her arm around Gabriel's. "I knew you would come to see me."
Gabriel didn't refuse, letting her hold his arm. However, when they reached the second floor and Gabriel saw Rolf, he gently pushed Chelsea away.
Gabriel looked at her. "Sorry, I didn't mean to deceive you."
Chelsea immediately realized and angrily put her hands on her waist. "Gabriel, what do you mean? Are you using me?"
"The business world is like a battlefield, it has always been this way. But since Mr. Haugen allowed you to come down to see me, I believe he must have something to say to me."
Rolf then smiled and looked at Chelsea. "Chelsea, you go downstairs first. I have something to discuss with him alone."
