Chapter 236 Gabriel, Let's Break Up

Jessica shook her head, thinking, 'Forget it, he's still lying to me.'

"I don't want to go to the hospital. I'll just take some fever medicine at home," she said.

"Where is it? I'll get it for you," Gabriel asked gently.

"In the second drawer in the living room," she replied.

"Okay."

After taking the medicine, Jessica said seriously, "Thank you!"

Gabriel touched her head. "Silly, why are you thanking me? Are you really that out of it?

"Get some sleep. I'll make some porridge for you."

Jessica lay down and pulled the covers over her head, crying silently. She felt miserable, like she had fallen from heaven to hell in an instant.

She didn't know how she fell asleep, but her dreams were restless. She dreamed of her mother and her baby, both calling out to her, making her heart ache.

"Jessica," Gabriel called softly, holding her hand, but she was lost in her dream, crying deeply.

Seeing her cry broke Gabriel's heart, especially when she called out "Mommy". He thought she must be thinking about her mother.

"I'm sorry, baby," Jessica cried in her dream, reaching out for her baby but unable to touch him. Gabriel felt terrible, blaming himself for her pain.

He lay down beside her, holding her until she finally fell into a deep sleep around midnight.

In the morning, Gabriel had breakfast ready—just some plain porridge and light side dishes since she had just recovered from a fever.

Jessica, wearing slippers, went to the living room. Seeing Gabriel, she felt a mix of emotions.

Gabriel walked up, touched her forehead, and said, "The fever's gone down. Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"

She wanted to say yes, that everything felt uncomfortable, especially her heart, but she just shook her head. "I'm okay. Just a bit weak."

"Come have breakfast. After that, we'll rest for a few days until you recover, then go back to work," Gabriel said.

Jessica nodded and went to eat breakfast.

At the dining table, Jessica was quiet and pale, looking almost colorless. She forced herself to eat some porridge, corn, and vegetables, knowing she needed to recover because she had to go to work. It was Monday, and she couldn't afford to miss her job, something she had worked so hard for.

Throughout breakfast, she didn't say a word. Gabriel kept glancing at her, feeling uneasy. She seemed different, more distant, and no longer clung to him. She even avoided his occasional affectionate gestures.

After breakfast, Jessica went to change clothes. Gabriel frowned at her outfit. "You're still not well. Take a day off and rest at home."

"No, I can manage," Jessica insisted.

"You're not fully recovered yet," Gabriel said, a bit angry. He wasn't sure if he was mad because she wasn't taking care of herself or because she seemed to be ignoring him.

"I'll call in sick  for you," he said, reaching for her phone.

Jessica grabbed it back, her anger flaring. "Gabriel, it's my job. I said I can handle it. Why are you making decisions for me?"

Gabriel raised the phone out of her reach. "Jessica, what's wrong with you? Why don't you want to take a day off?"

"No reason, I just don't want to delay my work," she replied.

"But you're not fit for work right now. You need to rest," Gabriel insisted.

"I said I could make it, Gabriel. Give me the phone," Jessica shouted, grabbing it back and looking at him with cold eyes.

Gabriel was furious. "Fine, I'm meddling too much. I work all day, take care of you all night, accommodate you in everything, and protect you. But in the end, it's all my fault, right?" he sneered.

Jessica turned away, not wanting to cry in front of him. She needed to be strong.

After a moment, she spoke, "Gabriel, you're right. It's too hard to please a woman like me. I'm always causing trouble. I don't deserve you. I'm not understanding or generous. You only like the obedient, never angry, hardworking me. But I'm not like that. I'm petty, selfish, and jealous. We're just not a good match."

She forced herself to endure the pain and turned to face him. "Gabriel, I've made up my mind. We're done!"
