Chapter 498 Scheming
That day, Jessica and Jonah went to the hospital to visit Danielle.
Unexpectedly, as soon as they reached the lobby, an elderly woman named Carolyn Smith, looking flustered, blocked their way.
The next moment, Carolyn, carrying a worn-out bag, held their hands, tears streaming down her face as she cried out, "Jonah, I beg you to save Patricia, save Patricia!"
Recognizing Carolyn, Jonah reached out to help her up. "Please, get up first!"
But Carolyn was very persistent, crying and holding tightly onto Jonah's hands. "No, I won't get up unless you promise to save Patricia."
Jonah rubbed his temples in frustration. "I understand your concern as a mother, but Patricia broke the law. Even if you come to me, there's nothing I can do."
Carolyn, however, was not giving up. "How can that be, Jonah? I know you've been blaming Patricia for ruining your family all these years."
"Patricia made an unforgivable mistake. I have hit and scolded her, but think about it: she did give you a child."
"Today, as her mother, I beg you. I don't ask for you to live together again, nor your forgiveness. I only ask you to give her a way out to keep her from going to jail."
Carolyn knelt on the ground, crying bitterly, refusing to get up no matter how Jonah tried to persuade her.
Not only that, she was sobbing and wailing, looking extremely pitiful.
But Jonah was not going to agree to release Patricia.
Thus, Carolyn and Jonah were at a stalemate.
The longer it went on, the more impatient Carolyn became.
Eventually, she almost started to throw a tantrum.
With people coming and going into the hospital, this scene quickly attracted a crowd.
Seeing Carolyn kneeling and crying loudly, almost all the onlookers began to criticize Jonah.
Jessica hadn't expected Carolyn to show up suddenly.
More importantly, Carolyn was even more difficult to deal with than Jessica had imagined.
To put it nicely, she was pleading with them;
To put it bluntly, she was morally blackmailing and threatening them.
As more and more people gathered, the murmurs and pointing fingers increased.
Jonah's patience was wearing thin.

"So I will never forgive Patricia. Since she committed a crime, she must pay the price."
Hearing Jonah's words, Carolyn realized that pleading was useless.
So, Carolyn quickly changed her strategy.
She placed her bag on the ground and sat down, crying out loudly, "Everyone, come and judge for yourselves."
"My heartless son-in-law, he is so unfeeling that he wants to kill my daughter and live a happy life with his mistress."
Carolyn pointed tremblingly and angrily at Jessica.
Instantly, all eyes were on Jessica.
Some people started cursing, their words extremely harsh. "How dare she seduce someone else's husband? This woman deserves to die."
"Yeah, she's shameless. Women like her should be taught a lesson."
A few women couldn't hold back and rushed towards Jessica.
Seeing this, Louie immediately stepped forward to shield Jessica.
But Jessica just waved her hand lightly.
So, Louie stepped back and stood aside, doing nothing.
At that moment, someone grabbed Jessica's hair and tore at her clothes.
Soon, the buttons on her clothes were ripped off and scattered on the ground.
The women were even more vicious, trying to strip her clothes off.
Jessica suddenly shouted, "Louie!"
Almost instantly, Louie pulled all the women away like they were trash.
Jessica lifted her head, straightened her clothes, and tidied her hair.
She turned, looked calmly at Louie, and said coldly, "Detain everyone who caused trouble just now and call the police."
"Okay, Mrs. Walton."
Soon, the police arrived.
Everyone was taken to the police station.
When questioned by the police, Jessica told the truth and added, "The hospital should have surveillance cameras. You can check them."
"Alright, we will."
An hour later, Jessica was sitting in a car outside the police station.
Jessica called Jonah, "Dad, let me handle this. You don't need to worry."
"Okay, I trust you to handle it well. Don't worry about me. As I said before, if it's proven that Patricia hurt Danielle, I won't show any mercy."
"Dad, with your support, I can handle this boldly."
After hanging up, Jessica sighed deeply.
At that moment, someone knocked on the car window.
Jessica rolled down the window, and Louie pointed to the medical kit in his hand. "Mrs. Walton, you're injured. Let me treat your wounds."
"No need."
After speaking, she looked at Louie's profile, and her heart softened.
Jessica reached out her hand and said lightly, "Give me the medicine. I'll apply it myself."
As Jessica applied the medicine, Louie spoke, "Mrs. Walton, you didn't have to deal with Carolyn. I could have handled it."
Jessica smiled and said, "No, dealing with such unreasonable people, violence won't solve the problem. The best way is to take them to the police station."
"But you didn't have to get hurt."
"It's nothing, just a small injury."
After treating her wound, Jessica asked, "How's the police interrogation going? When will Carolyn be released?"
"Soon, I think."
"Alright, I'll rest for a bit. Let me know when Carolyn is out."
About half an hour later, Louie gently knocked on the car window.
Hearing the sound, Jessica opened her eyes.
"Is Carolyn out?"
"Yes!"
"Okay, make the arrangements."
At the hotel room, Jessica pushed the door open.
Inside, Carolyn was already waiting.
Seeing Jessica, Carolyn was furious and wanted to rush over and hit her.
But Jessica's words stopped her in her tracks.
"Before you act, I advise you to think it through. Aren't you here to plead for your daughter? If I call the police again, I'm not sure when you'll be out."
"What do you mean?"
Jessica looked at her coldly. "Exactly what I said. I know you're not stupid."
