Chapter 726 I Won't Marry Anyone But Him
James raised an eyebrow, his cold gaze directed at him.
"Quentin, you are not qualified to discuss these matters with me."
"Even so, that's not a reason for you to abandon Caroline. Even if the engagement is to be annulled, we should be we take the lead. It should be Caroline who doesn't want you, not you who doesn't want her."
"Listen to me carefully, from now on, you are not allowed to disturb Caroline. If you dare to bother her again, I won't let you off."
Quentin nodded, "Mr. Stewart, I will remember your words."
"You are right, Caroline and I have amicably annulled the engagement. She was the one who initiated it. Tomorrow, all the news will report it, ensuring no negative impact on her. The dignity and reputation the Stewart family wants, I will preserve."
"I came here today for one thing only, I hope Caroline can return the ring to me."
James's expression was as cold as ice.
"It's just a ring. Since when did the Taft family become so petty?"
"The ring holds special significance. Since the engagement is annulled, it's better to return it."
James snorted, "Makes sense. We're not so greedy as to covet a little money from you."
Then, James turned to the person beside him, "Go call Caroline down."
"Yes, sir."
Caroline, however, had been locked in her room all day and hadn't come out.
"Ms. Stewart, Mr. Stewart wants you to come down."
"I'm not going."
"Ms. Stewart..."
Before the servant could finish, the sound of shattering glass exploded in their ear.
Caroline had already smashed quite a few things that day.
James, however, indulged her, letting her smash things as she pleased.
The servant at the door was worried. If she couldn't get Caroline to come down, she wouldn't be able to report back. Suddenly, an idea struck her, and she quickly called out.
"Ms. Stewart, Mr. Taft is here. Are you really not coming down?"
"What?"
Suddenly, the door opened, and Caroline stood in the doorway with messy hair, looking excited.
"Are you serious? Quentin is here?"
"Absolutely, Mr. Taft is downstairs right now."
The door closed again.
Then, Caroline's voice came from inside, "Tell my dad I'll be down in ten minutes."
Inside, she immediately picked out an outfit and got ready as quickly as possible.
Finally, after checking herself in the mirror several times and feeling satisfied, she opened the door and went downstairs.
As she descended, a faint smile played on her lips.
She guessed that Quentin must have regretted it after James intervened.
So, he was here to apologize and ask for her forgiveness.
They would get married eventually.
Thinking of this, Caroline became extremely excited.
"Dad."
As soon as she got downstairs, Caroline immediately walked over to stand beside James.
At the same time, she looked at Quentin with a pitiful expression, her voice soft and gentle, "Quentin, you're here!"
"Yes."
James extended his hand to Caroline, "Where is it? Hand it over!"
"Dad, what are you talking about?"
"Quentin's engagement ring. He said it's with you. Give it back to him immediately."
"Dad, what do you mean by this?"
James felt humiliated and was furious, "The engagement is annulled. Why are you still holding onto his ring? Give it back to him right now."
"Once the ring is returned, you will have no further ties."
Caroline immediately stomped her foot, "No, Dad."
"I thought you came home to help me. Why are you also asking me to annul the engagement?"
"I won't. I want to marry Quentin. I won't marry anyone else but him."
After saying that, she turned and ran upstairs.
James immediately called out, "Stop her."
Caroline was stopped on the stairs.
"Dad, do you have to force me?"
"I'll say it again, give the ring back to him. From now on, the Stewart family and the Taft family will have no further ties, and you and he will have no possibility."
Caroline ran over and hugged James's arm.
"No, Dad! You can't do this," she cried. "I love Quentin. I want to marry him."
"You can't be so overbearing. This is my love and marriage. You can't decide for me."
James, though heartbroken, instructed a servant, "Go upstairs and find the ring. Bring it down to me."
"No, Dad, you can't be so cruel."
That ring was her only hope. If she lost the ring, there would be no last connection between them.
Since the ring was just in the drawer of her dressing table and not hidden, it was found and brought down within minutes.
"Mr. Stewart, here it is."
James ordered coldly, "Alright, give it back to him."
At the same time, he looked at Quentin, "Remember your words. Do not bother Caroline again."
Quentin took the ring with both hands, confirmed it, and put it in his pocket, then said, "Mr. Stewart, rest assured, I will keep my word."
"Willie, let's go."
"Yes, Mr. Taft."
Quentin's tall and straight figure had already reached the living room door, but Caroline was still crying her heart out.
"No, Quentin, don't go. Please don't go."
But no matter how she called, Quentin's determined steps did not stop, resolutely moving forward.
"Quentin."
Caroline suddenly started running, chasing after him like crazy.
"Stop, Caroline!"
Seeing this, James immediately shouted.
"Let go of me. Let me go."
"Get out of my way."
Caroline struggled hard against the two people holding her, but it was to no avail.
In the end, she could only watch as Quentin's figure disappeared.
It wasn't until Quentin was gone that James spoke, "Let her go."
Caroline was crying so hard she could barely breathe.
Only then did James walk over to her, slowly squatting down.
Grabbed her arm, James gently pulling her up, "Caroline, get up."
"Dad, I feel so awful!"
Caroline threw herself into his arms, crying even harder.
"Dad, I really like him. Can you help me?"
"You're so smart, you have so many ways. As long as you want, Quentin will definitely agree to marry me."
James wiped the tears from her cheeks with a pained expression, "Silly girl, there are so many good men in the world. Why do you have to marry him?"
"Quentin has made it very clear that he doesn't like you. Caroline, marrying a man who doesn't love you is very hard. How can I bear to see you suffer?"
Caroline shook her head, "No, Dad, I know all of this."
"Everything is my choice. I love him. As long as I can marry him, I believe that one day he will be moved and fall in love with me."
James insisted, "Fool, why don't you listen to me? When a man doesn't love you, nothing you do can change his mind. You're so young and beautiful, with such good qualities. Without Quentin, there will be countless better men."
