Chapter 290 Met Her Mother?
"Cool, I'll keep an eye out," Jack nodded.
"Thanks, Dr. Smith."
As she left his office and stepped out of the elevator, a familiar voice called out, "Jessica?"
Jessica stopped, and Madison came running up, out of breath, "Jessica, finally! I've been shouting your name for what feels like forever."
Jessica shrugged, "Sorry, the elevator was packed. Couldn't hear a thing."
Madison grinned, "Oh, by the way, my mom's been dying to see you. She keeps bugging my brother about it, but he says you're always busy. Since I bumped into you, why not come with me now? It'll make her day and might even help her get better."
Madison had already linked arms with Jessica.
Jessica sighed, "Alright, but I can't show up empty-handed. Let me just—"
Madison cut her off with a smile, "Jessica, no need. Our family doesn't care about that stuff. Just you being there will make my mom's day. Seriously, you're like the best gift ever. You have no idea how much she wants a daughter-in-law. Perfect timing, huh?"
In the end, Madison dragged Jessica back into the elevator.
Not far behind them, Oscar awkwardly scratched his nose and looked at Gabriel nervously, "Mr. Walton, should we...?"
Gabriel stood still, eyes cold and brows furrowed, not looking happy at all.
Clearly, he was pissed and jealous.
"Mr. Walton, should we still go find Ms. Morgan?" Oscar asked again.
"Why not?"
Gabriel raised an eyebrow and followed them into the next elevator.
Seemed he needed to stake his claim.
As they got on the elevator, Madison took a call, and Jessica quickly sent a message to Vincent: [Just ran into your sis at the hospital, and now she's dragging me to see your mom. Help!]
After sending the message, Jessica quickly put away her phone.
As they neared the hospital room, Jessica felt her nerves kicking in.
Madison rushed in first, grabbing Alexis's hand, her face lit up with excitement, "Mom, guess who I brought?"
Alexis guessed, "Vincent? Or Jennifer?"
"Nope, none of them. Keep guessing."
Alexis guessed a few more times, and Madison shook her head each time.
Just then, Jessica knocked on the door and walked in.
Seeing her, Alexis instantly looked more lively, her eyes lighting up.
A big smile spread across Alexis's face, "Jessica, it's you! I can't believe Madison brought you. I've been wanting to see you since I woke up, but Vincent said you've been super busy, so I didn't want to bug you."
Jessica replied, "Sorry, Mrs. Lucas, for not visiting sooner."
Alexis waved it off, "Not at all, I'm just happy you're here."
Madison quickly grabbed a chair for Jessica, "Here, have a seat."
"Thanks!"
Alexis looked Jessica over, feeling a pang of sympathy, "You do look busy, and you've lost some weight. Once things settle down, have Vincent take you out for some good food."
Seeing how warm and welcoming the family was, Jessica felt a deep sense of guilt.
They truly treated her like one of their own, but she had deceived them.
The more she thought about it, the more uncomfortable she felt.
Now, she just hoped Vincent would see her message soon and come over so they could explain everything together.
"Mrs. Lucas, Vincent told me the surgery went great and that you're recovering well. How are you feeling now?" Jessica changed the subject.
Alexis replied kindly, "I really need to thank you in person. Vincent told me it was you who got Dr. Turner involved. If it weren't for Dr. Turner, the surgery wouldn't have been so successful. So, thank you. You're a good kid. I'm so glad Madison ran into you downstairs, otherwise, I wouldn't have seen you before I get discharged tomorrow."
Jessica replied gently, "Mrs. Lucas, please don't say that. I'm happy to help. Besides, when I saw you, you reminded me so much of my mother. You give me the same feeling she did."
Alexis said, "Your mother? Then I must meet her someday. She must be a wise, elegant, and beautiful woman to have raised such a lovely, kind-hearted girl."
Jessica lowered her eyelashes, her voice tinged with sadness, "My mother passed away several years ago."
"I'm sorry, Jessica; I didn't mean to bring up something sad."
Jessica shook her head and smiled bravely, "Mrs. Lucas, it's not your fault; don't blame yourself. But I do have a photo of my mother on my phone. Would you like to see it?"
"Sure, I'd love to see it." Alexis nodded.
Jessica found the photo of her mother and handed her phone to Alexis.
Seeing the photo, Alexis immediately exclaimed, "Huh? This photo looks familiar."
