Chapter 351 The Breakdown of Gabriel

As expected, the call was from Gabriel.

"Hey, Gabriel," Jessica tried to keep her cool and spoke calmly on the phone.

"How are you feeling today?"

"Not too bad, haven't thrown up much. Maybe the babies are being nice."

The noise in the car got louder.

Gabriel frowned. "Where are you? It sounds noisy."

"I'm out shopping. My belly's gonna get bigger soon, and I won't be able to wear cute clothes, so I'm grabbing some nice outfits while I can."

"Alright, buy whatever you want and have someone help you carry them. It's on me."

"Thanks, honey. I'll keep shopping then."

After hanging up, Jessica's hands shook as she turned off the phone. She took out the SIM card and tossed it, replacing it with a new one.

Then, she stared blankly out the window, suddenly unable to think about anything.

She didn't dare think about his face and voice, or what it would be like when he found out she had left. She didn't dare think about the future for her and the babies either.

The road ahead was full of uncertainties.

Around one in the afternoon, Gabriel got a call from Charlotte, who informed him, "Mr. Walton, I have to tell you that Mrs. Walton hasn't come back since she went out this morning."

"What do you mean she hasn't come back?" Gabriel glanced at his watch and raised his voice. "It's already afternoon. I called her this morning, and she said she was shopping. Who took her out today? Have the driver go to the mall right now to look for her."

"Mr. Walton, the driver has already searched the mall several times but couldn't find Mrs. Walton. He also called her, but her phone was off. I called her myself, but it was always off. That's when I knew something was wrong and contacted you immediately." Charlotte's voice was anxious.

"Alright, I'm coming back right now."

After hanging up, Gabriel drove home like a madman. He was speeding, his hands shaking so much that he could barely grip the steering wheel. His heart sank with every passing moment.

'Jessica, don't go, please don't go. We've been through so much together, and you're finally going to marry me. How can you leave with our babies? Wait for me, please wait for me.'

Gabriel's mind was a mess, and he couldn't think straight. On the way, he called Jessica countless times. But the response was always, "The number you have dialed is currently switched off."

"Jessica, how could you leave me?" he muttered to himself.

Distracted and driving too fast, Gabriel suddenly saw a woman holding the hand of a little girl with a ponytail dash out into the street. Startled, he slammed on the brakes and, luckily, stopped just in time.

The girl's mom instantly got furious and started banging on the car window.

Seeing the mother and daughter, Gabriel felt deflated. He couldn't hold back anymore and burst into tears, his head resting on the steering wheel. He was almost wailing, not just shedding tears but crying loudly and heart-wrenchingly. His tears splashed onto the steering wheel, and his heart felt like it was being ripped apart, each piece hurting so much that he could hardly breathe.

The woman continued banging on the window. Gabriel rolled it down and handed her a signed check. "I was driving too fast. Thank God I didn't hurt you. Please, take this as a token of my deep regret and apology."

The woman's eyes widened at the number on the check.

Seeing Gabriel's fancy car, she suddenly had an idea and shouted, "Do you think this is enough? Your car looks expensive. We deserve more than this for what you almost did to us. At least twenty thousand dollars."

Gabriel, tired of her nagging and in a hurry to get back, reached for another check. But the ponytail girl suddenly grabbed her mom's hand. "Mommy, we shouldn't take more money. This gentleman has already paid for his mistake."

"Look, he's crying, and there are tears on his face. Daddy says men shouldn't cry easily. He must be very sad to have been distracted and almost hit us. Let's forgive him, okay?"

The girl's mom, touched, patted Debbie's head. "Alright, sweetie, I'll listen to you."

Before leaving, Debbie gave Gabriel a thumbs up. "Daddy says no matter how sad things could be, they will pass. Sir, I wish you all the best and be happy like me."

Gabriel was moved again. He thought of Jessica and the babies. How would she cope without him, especially being pregnant? If he found her, things would be fine. But what if he couldn't? Would he never see them again?

Back home, Gabriel frantically pushed open the bedroom door. The room looked unchanged; her clothes, daily skincare products, and small, easily portable items were all still there.

Opening the drawer, he stared blankly. The only things Jessica took were her documents and medical reports.

So, she didn't leave on a whim. She had made up her mind long ago and planned this carefully. Otherwise, how could she have left so quietly?

"Jessica, I'm back! I'm back to see you and the babies!" Gabriel shouted, his voice almost tearing.

But no matter how he shouted, there never appeared a soft voice calling his name. No one would ever respond to him. The large room suddenly became quiet as death. Nothing but cold, empty air.

Gabriel sat on the floor, clutching the blanket Jessica had used the night before. "Jessica, why did you leave? Is it because I've been busy with work and neglected you and the babies? Or is it my past distrust that made you feel hurt?"

He couldn't think of any other reasons. Desperate for answers, he retrieved the mall's surveillance footage. It showed that Jessica never went inside to shop. She got out of the car and left through the main entrance on the first floor. Her departure was indeed planned from the very beginning.

'Jessica, do you and the babies not want me anymore?' Gabriel looked at everything related to her in the room, almost going crazy.

As he sat there, lost in his thoughts, the door creaked open. Gabriel looked up and saw Chelsea standing in front of him, a triumphant smile on her face. "Gabriel," she said, her voice dripping with satisfaction, "now that there's no obstacle between us, when will you marry me?"
