Chapter 589 The Mystery of the Hidden Past
Vincent looked at her and shook his head.
"No, Mom, I heard it very clearly just now."
"You said that dinner was the last time you and Dad, along with Mr. Ulysses Lucas, met, and you also said you were pregnant with me at the time."
"What about Madison?"
Hearing this, Alexis immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
Under the sheets, Alexis quietly released her grip.
"Vincent, you are meticulous. I even forgot about those things myself. Maybe I just said it wrong in a moment of panic."
But Vincent didn't think so, "Mom, I know your personality. Such an important matter, there's no way you'd misremember it or get it wrong. So there's only one possibility, and that is that what you said isn't the whole truth."
"Mom, tell me, what's the real story behind Madison's background?"
Seeing that she couldn't hide it anymore, Alexis could only sigh.
"Alright, since you know, I won't hide it from you anymore."
"Madison isn't the child of your father and me. That year, there was a heavy snowfall, and Madison was abandoned under a tree outside our house."
"It was midnight, the snow was very heavy and thick, so it was especially quiet after nightfall. Madison's crying was very noticeable. I've always thought that a child of unknown origin shouldn't be casually adopted."
"But Ennifer was kind-hearted. She insisted on putting on a coat and holding my hand to go out and bring Madison back from the snow."
After explaining, Alexis felt much more relieved.
All these years, this secret was kept from everyone except her and Ennifer.
To protect Madison's background, even all the servants in the house at the time were dismissed.
"How old was Madison then?" Vincent asked.
"Madison was probably only about a month old, very small and fragile. We put in a lot of effort to raise her bit by bit."
Vincent was puzzled. "Mom, why don't I have any memory of that time?"
"First, you were young. What could you remember before the age of three? Plus, your grandparents doted on you so much that you spent most of the year living with them."
"When you came back later, Madison had already been adopted by us."
"All these years, Ennifer and I have always treated Madison as part of the Lucas family. Now that you know, don't look down on Madison."
Vincent walked over and sat next to Alexis. "Mom, how could you say that? No matter what, Madison is my sister."
"As her brother, I will protect and love Madison all my life."
Alexis finally felt much more relieved. "That's good, now I can rest easy."
"Also, you must keep this a secret and never mention it to Madison. She's very sensitive, and I'm afraid if she finds out, she might feel distant from us."
Vincent nodded. "Okay, I know what to do."
"Mom, you rest well. I'll be downstairs. Call me if you need anything."
"Alright."
After he left and she heard the door close, Alexis finally closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
She thought, 'Hopefully, the past will truly be behind us from today.'
'Patrick, rest assured, I've always remembered your words all these years.'
'Our son is doing great, very outstanding. You can rest easy now.'
Ulysses's matter was also settled.
Although Jessica still found it a bit hard to accept.
But she knew that life must move forward.
In the evening, Gabriel mentioned taking her to a party in a few days to lift her spirits.
Maybe because Jessica was previously pregnant with twins, she felt better in the later stages of pregnancy with just one baby.
Jessica's belly wasn't particularly big. Although doing some squatting movements was a bit hard, overall she was still quite agile.
It was just that life in the later stages of pregnancy was a bit too dull. Every day, Jessica was stuck at home and couldn't go anywhere.
One or two days were fine, but since coming back, Jessica had been at home for over a month, except for a few occasional outings.
During this time, Jessica had finished watching all the shows she wanted to see.
She had also read many fashion magazines.
Even the joy of unpacking online shopping deliveries couldn't lift her spirits anymore.
So when Gabriel received the invitation to the charity gala, he immediately thought of taking her to cheer her up.
Jessica was, of course, extremely happy and immediately kissed Gabriel on the cheek.
"Honey, thank you, you're so wonderful."
Gabriel enjoyed this gesture.
"Honey, didn't you always say it was dangerous outside and didn't let me go? There will be a lot of people at the charity gala. Aren't you worried?"
Gabriel explained, "It's different. This is a high-profile charity gala. There's an auction before the gala, and the threshold is very high. Only a few dozen people are invited in total. The venue is large, and the security system is top-notch."
"Besides, the food there is very exquisite and delicious. I know you'll love it."
The more Jessica listened, the more she looked forward to it.
"Honey, you're so thoughtful, always thinking of me."
"I have to give you a thumbs up for your behavior."
Listening to the praise, Gabriel couldn't help but feel happy.
Reaching out, he was about to pull Jessica onto his lap.
But Jessica had already run to the wardrobe and started looking for clothes.
"Honey, I'm in the late stages of pregnancy. My belly is so obvious. What kind of dress should I wear to look good?"
Jessica looked at the wardrobe, already worried.
She had looked through the clothes in the wardrobe from left to right and then from right to left.
Unfortunately, she still hadn't found a dress she liked.
Gabriel sighed and walked over.
He wrapped his arms around her waist and whispered in her ear with a sexy voice, "No wonder they say a woman can never have enough clothes."
"I thought you were different, but it turns out all women are the same."
Jessica immediately turned around and looked at him seriously. "All women?"
"Last time, I had dinner with some friends, and they were complaining about it. At the time, I thought you were unique and special."
Jessica laughed and pinched his face. "Well, today I'll give you a lesson and let you know the reality. No matter which woman, she can never have enough clothes. I'm no exception."
"There's no way around it. All women love beauty!"
"You still haven't told me which dress looks good!"
Gabriel's warm breath brushed against her neck as he gently spoke, "Kiss me, and I'll tell you."
"Stingy."
Jessica said this but had already leaned in to kiss him.
Gabriel suddenly turned his face, one hand holding the back of her head, and deepened the kiss quickly.
It wasn't until Jessica was a bit out of breath that he let her go, satisfied.
His hot breath brushed against her ear again. "Didn't you say you never have enough clothes? I've already prepared everything for you. You don't have to worry about anything. Just show up on that day."
