Chapter 392 Personally Erecting a Tombstone and Inscribing It for Jessica
The rain was just like Gabriel's mood, damp and cold.
The drizzle gently floated down, landing on everyone.
Gabriel stood by the coffin the entire time, never moving an inch.
The group first went to the crematorium.
Perhaps fearing he might break down or cause trouble, Danielle specifically instructed a few people to stay close to him.
However, inside the crematorium, Gabriel was exceptionally calm.
He clenched his fists, his heavy gaze fixed on one spot.
Throughout the process, he hardly blinked.
Until the cremation was over, he couldn't hold back any longer and rushed over to embrace the box containing the ashes.
"I need to leave for a few minutes," he said calmly, holding the box.
No one present knew what he was going to do.
But at that moment, it seemed everyone tacitly agreed.
A few minutes later, Gabriel emerged from the car, still holding the box.
Everything seemed unchanged.
But only Gabriel knew what had just happened.
He reached out, gently touching the necklace around his neck, and spoke tenderly, "Jessica, from today on, I'll keep you by my side. I promised I would always be with you and never leave you again."
"I'll wear this necklace all the time. That way, you won't forget me and can find your way home."
Then, he gently held the gourd-shaped pendant, bowed his head, and kissed it reverently.
Finally, he tucked the pendant inside his shirt and adjusted his collar.
After finishing at the cemetery, Gabriel had the area filled with flowers.
Clusters of varieties of colors made the entire cemetery look like a vibrant ocean of flowers.
It didn't look like a cemetery at all.
The fragrance of the flowers was enchanting, spreading a rich aroma that could be smelled from afar.
The scene was colorful and dazzling.
Even the raindrops falling on the flowers looked like tiny beads, beautiful beyond words.
The tombstone was already erected, and Gabriel picked up a tool to carve the words, bit by bit.
It had been a drizzle, but as Gabriel started carving, suddenly, the wind picked up, and the rain intensified, soon it turned into pouring rain.
People around him tried to persuade him, "Mr. Walton, the rain is too heavy. Let's carve the words another day!"
"Yes, Mr. Walton, Mrs. Walton in heaven would surely understand and not blame you."
Gabriel remained silent, neither refusing nor agreeing.
He just kept his head down, focused on the tombstone, carving each stroke meticulously, unaffected.
The rain grew heavier.
Chelsea also tried to persuade him, "Gabriel, your body can't take this. If you fall seriously ill, how heartbroken would Mom be? How would she go on?"
But Chelsea's words were in vain.
Gabriel continued to carve the words, undeterred by the downpour.
Another ten minutes passed, and even Chelsea couldn't hold back any longer.
She rushed over and grabbed the tool from Gabriel's hand. "Gabriel, I beg you, let's wait until tomorrow when it's sunny to carve the words, okay? Jessica would be heartbroken to see you in the rain."
However, Gabriel didn't even glance at her.
He continued carving and asked coolly, "What if it doesn't clear up tomorrow and keeps raining?"
Chelsea immediately replied, "No, it won't, Gabriel. I checked, tomorrow will be sunny, with clear skies and bright sunshine."
To prove her words, she quickly showed him the weather forecast on her phone.
Gabriel didn't even look up, continuing to carve. "Whether tomorrow is sunny or not, today is her burial day. As her lover and the babies' father, I must finish this today."
"Otherwise, even if Jessica forgives me, I can't forgive myself."
Seeing she couldn't persuade him, Chelsea broke down in tears.
Chelsea felt endless guilt in her heart.
'God, why? Why are you so cruel?'
'Jessica was such a good person. She went through so much hardship and was finally about to live a happy life with Gabriel. Why did you have to ruin it all?'
'She was pregnant, carrying twins. God, can't you see that?'
'If a life had to be sacrificed, if someone had to leave, it should have been me. I'm an orphan, my departure would have been the best.'
The rain fell not only on Gabriel but also on Chelsea's face and body.
Gabriel refused to use an umbrella, standing alone in the rain.
Chelsea stubbornly pushed away the umbrella in front of her, refusing to use it, standing in the rain as well.
Suddenly, Gabriel spoke, "Give Chelsea an umbrella and take her back!"
But his gaze remained fixed on the tombstone, his actions uninterrupted.
"Gabriel, come back with me," Chelsea immediately seized the opportunity.
"You go back first. I'll return once I'm done," Gabriel replied.
His refusal was clear.
But Chelsea still wanted to make one last try. "No, Gabriel, we go back together."
"If you don't go back, I won't either. I'll stay here in the rain with you until you're done."
Gabriel's voice gradually filled with anger, "Chelsea, listen to me, go back now."
"No, I absolutely won't."
Without another word, Gabriel coldly called out Oscar's name, "Take her back immediately. If anything happens, I'll hold you responsible."
"Yes, Mr. Walton," Oscar responded immediately.
Of course, Chelsea disagreed.
But what could she do?
Everyone around was Gabriel's people, she couldn't resist.
"Ms. Haugen, you should know Mr. Walton's character better than I do. Let me take you back," Oscar said respectfully to Chelsea.
Chelsea bit her lip, feeling both heartbroken and distressed.
She had so much more to say.
But seeing Gabriel's current state, she knew he wouldn't leave until the tombstone was finished.
So, in the end, she swallowed all her words and said nothing.
Stubbornly turning around, she quickly ran into the rain.
Oscar immediately chased after her.
By the end of his carving, Gabriel's hands were nearly numb from the cold rain.
But he persisted.
The words on the tombstone were almost finished.
Finally, with trembling fingers, he carved the last letter.
And on the tombstone, three neat lines of text appeared.
