Chapter 583 Jessica Finds Her Dad
Jessica was visibly nervous, taking a deep breath as she looked extremely uneasy.
"From Mom's diary, it seems my dad was likely a police officer. But why has he never come to find us all these years?"
"Honey, what kind of person do you think my dad is?"
She had waited so long, hoped for so long.
When it was finally time to uncover the mysterious truth, she was filled with both excitement and trepidation.
Gabriel held her hand, his voice warm and strong, "Don't be afraid. No matter who Dad is or what the truth is, I'll be with you."
"If it turns out well, you'll have one more person to love and care for you."
"If it doesn't go well, I'll love and support you even more."
Gabriel's words gave Jessica a lot of strength.
She mustered up her courage and pushed open the door.
Seeing them, someone quickly came over with a smile and asked, "Are you Mr. Walton?"
"Yes, I am."
"Please follow me!"
Inside, a man took out a delicate little box and handed it to Gabriel. "Mr. Griffin has restored the item you requested. Originally, Mr. Griffin intended to hand it to you himself, but he had to go out for something urgent. He instructed me to make sure to give it to you personally."
"Thank you!"
Looking at the box, Jessica wanted to open it several times.
But in the end, she waited until they got home.
Her slender fingers gently twisted the brass lock, and she opened the lid.
Inside the pale red lining, a black-and-white photo lay quietly.
The people in the photo were now clear.
No longer the blurry figures they once were.
Jessica reached out, excitedly taking it out and carefully placing it in front of her.
She stared at the photo for a long time.
Then, she turned and took out an album, flipping through it quickly.
Pointing to the man in the photo with one hand and to the album with the other, she looked at Gabriel. "Do you think I looked like him when I was little?"
Gabriel compared them seriously twice and nodded firmly. "Very much."
Jessica excitedly picked up the photo, her fingers gently caressing it. "I finally found you, my dad. So, do you want to see me?"
Finally, her fingers landed on Giselle's portrait. "Mom, do you want me to find him?"
"Why do you ask? Haven't you always wanted to find him?" Gabriel asked.
Jessica turned and hugged him. "Because I'm suddenly scared. I've watched a lot of reunion shows recently, and I always thought all reunions were joyful."
"But now I realize that's not always the case. Some children weren't lost by accident or kidnapped; some were sold by their biological parents on purpose."
"For such parents, they don't want to be found by their children. So, I'm scared. I'm afraid that my mom and I were just burdens he didn't want. If that's the case, my appearance would be a disgrace and a mistake!"
Gabriel held her tenderly. "Silly, don't overthink it. From the diary, you can see Mom had deep feelings for Dad. Since Mom believed in him and believed she didn't love the wrong person, we should also believe in Dad."
"Even if it doesn't turn out well, we still need to find him, at least to fulfill your wish and stop you from being troubled."
Jessica nodded, "Honey, you're right."
She handed the photo to Gabriel, "Is it faster to find him now?"
"Yes, as long as Dad is in the police system, it won't be hard to find him."
The next morning, the result came out.
Gabriel looked at the stack of documents in front of him, frowning deeply.
It was just a simple two-page report and a few photos, but he flipped through them many times.
For the first time, he hoped his investigation was wrong.
"Oscar," Gabriel called out softly, "can you confirm again that there was no mistake?"
"Mr. Walton, it's been confirmed several times, and we've even asked his colleagues. The information is all true."
Gabriel picked up the documents again.
The photo in the top right corner showed a young, handsome man in a police uniform.
Next to it, the form listed his name: Ulysses Lucas.
Finally finding Jessica's biological father should have been good news.
But at that moment, Gabriel couldn't feel happy at all.
Because the information he got was that Ulysses had died many years ago.
Although Giselle's diary mentioned that someone said he had left, she didn't believe it.
Gabriel also knew that Jessica didn't believe her biological father was dead. Like Giselle, Jessica was convinced that Ulysses was still alive.
But the fact was right in front of them: Ulysses was dead.
Full of sorrow, Gabriel was conflicted all day until he got off work in the evening.
When he got home, Jessica immediately asked about the situation, "Honey, how did it go?"
Gabriel looked up at her.
After a moment of struggle, he finally spoke with difficulty, "Jessica, we have the result, but you need to be prepared."
"What do you mean?"
Jessica's excited expression suddenly dropped.
Gabriel handed her the documents. "His name is Ulysses Lucas. He died more than twenty years ago..."
Before he could finish, Jessica had already seen the death certificate.
All the documents fell to the ground.
Jessica shook her head, unwilling to believe it.
"No, it can't be. My dad can't be dead."
"I haven't even met my dad. How can he be dead?"
Jessica stood there in tears, utterly lost and panicked.
Gabriel held her tenderly.
"Honey, death is final, and I know it's hard, but try not to be too sad."
"I've already found his grave. When you feel better in a few days, I'll go with you to visit him, okay?"
Jessica still shook her head, clutching Gabriel's clothes, her voice filled with heart-wrenching sobs, "Honey, my dad isn't dead. I have a feeling in my heart that he's still alive."
"He's not dead. There must be some mistake, or we found the wrong person. Can we keep looking? Let's not decide so quickly."
Gabriel stroked her hair, nodding. "Okay, I'll have someone keep looking."
"Really?" Jessica's tear-streaked face looked up.
Gabriel patiently wiped her tears and nodded affirmatively. "Yes, I promise."
"Thank you, honey!"
"Silly, no need to thank me."
Jessica picked up the documents from the floor and handed them to Gabriel. "I have two more questions."
"Go ahead."
"His information is too simple. There's only an employment and a death report, and the cause of death is just a brief mention of a car explosion. I think that's very unusual."
"So, Gabriel, there must be a lot of things hidden in this information."
Gabriel nodded. "I also think there are many doubts. Since that's the case, let's investigate thoroughly."
