Chapter 193 Women in Love are Sensitive
When Jessica got the call, she had just changed and was about to leave work.
"Jessica."
Gabriel's voice was soft, unbelievably gentle.
Jessica blinked. The moment she heard him, her throat tightened.
She missed him.
She missed him so much.
She wanted to run to him, hug him tight, and curl up in his arms.
She wanted to nestle in his arms and call his name a thousand times.
But she didn't want him to worry.
So, she held back.
Glancing at the time, Jessica forced a light smile and asked casually, "Face-time now? It's late there. You work so hard, you need to rest."
Gabriel's heart ached even more hearing her words.
Seeing her forced smile made it worse.
His Jessica had clearly been through so much, yet she said nothing about her own pain, only worrying about him.
Unable to hold back, Gabriel said, "Why didn't you tell me about this?"
Jessica was stunned for a moment, then softly asked, "You know that?"
As soon as she said it, she burst into tears.
She covered her mouth, trying not to cry out loud, but the tears flowed down her cheeks.
The tears tasted salty and bitter.
"Jessica, don't cry!"
"It's my fault. I didn't protect you."
Seeing her cry tore Gabriel apart.
Especially seeing her trying so hard to hold back, not making a sound, it hurt even more.
But now, all he could do was comfort her with words. He couldn't even hug her.
The more he thought about it, the more he blamed himself.
His brows furrowed deeply.
Jessica cried, and he could only watch, silently being there for her.
Every tear felt like it was burning his heart.
After a while, Jessica wiped her face.
Thinking of something, she asked softly, "Do I look ugly like this?"
"No." Gabriel shook his head and smiled, "You are always beautiful."
"Really?" Jessica felt a bit comforted and smiled through her tears, "Not lying?"
"No, you're beautiful whether you are smiling or crying."
Hearing that, Jessica felt much better.
"But, I still prefer seeing you smile."
"Okay."
Jessica nodded, wiped her tears, and smiled.
Seeing her smile, Gabriel's lips curved slightly.
"Silly girl, let me ask you, who am I?" Gabriel suddenly asked.
Jessica answered, puzzled, "Gabriel!"
"No, I mean my identity, my relationship with you?"
"My boyfriend."
Jessica knew the answer but felt shy, so she answered slowly.
But Gabriel couldn't wait.
Sighing, he said, "Jessica, remember, I am your boyfriend. In the future, you don't have to bear things alone. No matter what happens, good or bad, you have to tell me."
"Good things, we share. Bad things, we solve together."
"Okay." Jessica nodded. "I feel much better now. Don't worry, it's late there, sleep early."
After hanging up the video call, Jessica washed her face, fixed her hair, and got ready to go home.
As soon as Jessica reached the hospital entrance, she heard someone call her name, "Jessica."
The voice was all too familiar.
Jessica turned her head and saw Jack. She immediately walked away, as if she had seen a monster, not looking back.
Her steps quickened; she wanted to get away as fast as possible.
"Jessica, I..." Jack called out again, but she had already started running.
He let out a bitter smile.
Did he really leave such a scar on her heart? He just wanted to apologize.
It seemed she saw him as a beast.
Yeah, he had left a bad impression on her.
Back home, Jessica was about to open the door when she found it already open from the inside.
"Grace? You're back?" Jessica was surprised to see her.
Grace didn't say anything, just walked up and hugged Jessica tightly. "Jessica, why didn't you tell me what happened? If Gabriel hadn't told me, were you planning to keep it from me?"
"I didn't want you to worry."
"But you are making me worry even more. And that jerk, I wish I could just rush up and give him a beating right now."
"Jessica, do you want to quit your job?" Grace asked, concerned.
Jessica thought for a moment, frowning. "I hadn't thought about it, but if he keeps harassing me, I might have to reconsider."
"Yeah, don't overthink it. Let Gabriel handle it; it's time for him to show his value as a boyfriend. If not now, then when?"
Hearing this, Jessica sighed and hugged her. "Grace, do you think I'm being too sensitive? When I'm upset, I really want him to be with me, to hold me."
"Jessica, that's not being sensitive. Every woman in love feels that way. You're just like every other woman."
Grace gently pinched Jessica's cheek and teased, "Besides, Gabriel might just like your sensitivity."
"Don't overthink it. I bet when he comes back, he'll pounce on you like a wolf, wanting to...!"
Grace deliberately left the sentence unfinished, making Jessica blush.
"You are blushing. So shy, it seems Gabriel isn't doing his boyfriend job well!"
Jessica had to defend Gabriel, immediately retorting, "No, we just haven't had sex yet."
The more she spoke, the redder her face became. "Anyway, I think he's a good boyfriend."
Grace laughed teasingly, "Haha, great. Seems Gabriel has done a good job."
After a while of teasing, Jessica felt much better.
After she fell asleep, Grace took a photo of Jessica and sent it to Gabriel.
Gabriel replied instantly, "She's asleep. How's her mood?"
"Much better."
"Go sign the contract with Walton Group tomorrow."
"Come on, you really think I came back just for your so-called contract? I'd love to accompany Jessica. Do you think my friendship with Jessica is fake? I'd come even without your contract."
"But you, Gabriel, if you ever hurt Jessica again, I won't spare you."
As soon as Grace finished speaking, she heard a hurried knock on the door from the other side.
If she guessed correctly, it was 2 a.m where Gabriel was.
It was so late. Who could be knocking at his hotel door?
For some reason, Grace suddenly had a very bad feeling, but she suppressed it.
"What's it now?" Over there, Gabriel seemed to have opened the door and said impatiently.
"Take good care of her. I have something to deal with here." With that, Gabriel hung up the phone.
