Chapter 187 A Bad Premonition

Gabriel's kiss was intense.

Jessica felt overwhelmed.

Normally, she'd be shy and embarrassed.

But now, she didn't care about anything.

She couldn't bear to part with him, the man holding her tight.

What should she do? He hadn't even left yet, and she already missed him.

No more holding back, Jessica wrapped her arms around Gabriel, wishing she could melt into him.

Only then, she thought, would she not be so afraid of losing him, wouldn't miss him so much.

Lately, she'd been feeling more sentimental.

She always felt that if she let him go, he'd leave her.

By the end of the kiss, Jessica's tears had fallen.

It wasn't until he tasted the salt on his lips that Gabriel realized Jessica was crying in his arms, crying like she'd been deeply hurt.

"Don't cry." Gabriel gently wiped her tears, trying to comfort her.

"I won't be gone long, I promise. As soon as I finish my business, I'll come right back. When I return, I'll take you out for steak."

"And my favorite desserts, and you'll take me on the carousel and the Ferris wheel." The more Jessica spoke, the more her tears flowed.

Gabriel lowered his head and kissed away her tears.

"Okay." he nodded tenderly. "Whatever you want, we'll do it all when I get back, I promise."

"Then you must remember your promise, don't lie."

Jessica cried because she couldn't bear to part with him.

She had a thousand reasons not to let him go.

But at that time, no one knew.

Some promises are always just promises.

There would never be a day when they were fulfilled.

If Jessica could foresee the future, she would never have let him leave.

Gabriel too, if he had known what would happen, he would have stayed by Jessica's side and gone nowhere.

But life isn't a movie.

No one gets the chance to regret.

No one is an exception.

Waving her hand, Jessica reluctantly got out of the car.

The driver stepped on the gas, and Gabriel's car merged into traffic.

She waved, and Gabriel waved too.

But soon, they couldn't see each other anymore, the car drove faster and faster.

But Jessica stubbornly waved in the direction of Gabriel's car.

Even though she knew he couldn't see her, she still wanted to say a proper goodbye.

Soon, the car became blurry and distant, and finally more and more distant, but Jessica still stood by the roadside for a long, long time, until she couldn't see it anymore, then she walked towards the mall.

When Jessica arrived at the steakhouse, Grace was already there waiting.

Seeing Jessica, she immediately waved, "Jessica, over here, I'm here."

Grace had already ordered the steak and the side dishes Jessica loved.

Looking at it, Jessica felt really warm inside.

"Thank you, Grace!"

"Who are we kidding? Come sit down and eat."

Grace noticed Jessica was listless, barely touching her steak. "Gabriel left, didn't he?"

Jessica looked up, surprised. "How did you know?"

"A few hours ago, he called me. Said he was going on a business trip and asked me to keep you company, take you shopping, make sure you're okay. He even offered to cover all the expenses."

"Seeing your poor look, do I even need to guess? He must have already left."

Jessica nodded, looking down. "Yeah, he just dropped me off here and left."

"Jessica, if you can't bear to part with him, why didn't you ask him to stay? You could have tested your place in his heart, see if he would stay if you asked."

Jessica propped her head with one hand, still looking downcast. After a while, she finally spoke. "I don't want to hold him back. He's like an eagle, and since I love him, how could I bear to keep him caged? Besides, I don't want to seem unreasonable."

"Jessica, you're just too considerate. Sometimes, women need to be a little selfish. It's okay to argue and make a fuss. Go ahead and act coquettishly, see how he reacts."

Jessica thought Grace made sense, but she was afraid. "Grace, truth be told, I'm quite timid. I'm afraid that even if I speak up, I won't be able to make him stay. Wouldn't that just prove that I don't really mean much to him? On the other hand, I find it easier to accept if he's away for work reasons."

"So, I'm really a failure."

Grace didn't know what to say to comfort her. Even Jessica didn't know her place in Gabriel's heart, she couldn't be sure, she was afraid. Grace knew even less.

"Don't think about it anymore, let's enjoy our steak. I think his leaving this time might not be a bad thing," Grace said, trying to comfort her.

"What do you mean?"

"Although you two have been married for a few years, it was different back then. This time, you just got back together, still in the honeymoon phase, both of you are more impulsive, and your feelings are very intense. This business trip can be a good test of your relationship."

"Besides, when he comes back, he'll be even more passionate. You won't be able to handle him."

As Grace spoke, her cheeks blushed.

"Grace, we haven't done that yet." Jessica said shyly.

Grace was a bit surprised. "Didn't you already do it when you were married?"

Jessica shook her head. "Marriage was marriage. This time feels different. I want to take it slower."

"Okay, whatever you want. I'm sure after this separation, Mr. Walton will be very passionate when he returns."

"So Jessica, don't be sad. He's not gone forever."

"Cheer up, look at all this delicious food on the table. It's all your favorite. We must finish it."

"Okay."

Jessica nodded and started eating with Grace. But for some reason, she had a bad feeling in her heart, that something big would happen on this business trip that she couldn't bear.

Shaking her head, Jessica forced herself not to think too much. Now, she just hoped everything would go smoothly. That he would come back soon, back to her side.
