Chapter 587 Seeking the Truth 2

Instantly, Alexis grabbed the documents on the table.

Her gaze was fixed intently on the photo and the name.

Seeing Alexis's serious expression and tense demeanor, Vincent immediately became alert.

"Mom," he began, just about to ask.

Alexis spoke first, "Ulysses? Is this the person you're looking for?"

Vincent nodded.

"So you're saying, he's Jessica's father?"

"Yes."

"Didn't you just say Jessica has a photo of her parents together? Do you have it? Let me see."

"Yes, wait a moment while I find it."

Vincent flipped through the album and handed the phone to Alexis.

"Mom, judging by your expression, could it be that you..."

"Don't say anything yet, let me think."

A few minutes later, Alexis handed the phone back to Vincent, sighed deeply, and then smiled with relief, "I never expected that Ulysses has a daughter alive."

"That's great. Patrick would be very happy to know this."

"I knew it. The first time I saw Jessica's mom's photo, I felt it was familiar, but I couldn't recall it at the time."

Vincent immediately sensed something significant from Alexis's words and quickly asked, "Mom, do you know Ulysses? What else do you know?"

"Not just you, Jessica will be even more curious. Have Jessica come over, and I'll tell you both everything I know about Ulysses."

"Okay, I'll contact Jessica right away."

"Alright."

Vincent didn't call Jessica but first called Gabriel.

"Good news, you won't believe it, my mom knows Ulysses."

"Really?" Gabriel was surprised.

"My mom said she would tell Jessica about Ulysses in person. Bring Jessica over right away."

"Okay, I'll hang up now."

Then Gabriel immediately called Jessica.

"Honey, change your clothes and put on some light makeup. There's a lead on your father. I'll be home to pick you up soon."

Jessica's heart started pounding with excitement, and her voice trembled, "Okay, I'll change right away."

"Alright, I'll be home in half an hour."

Gabriel arrived a few minutes early, and Jessica was quick as well.

Half an hour later, Gabriel and Jessica were already in the car.

Seeing her nervousness, Gabriel reached out and held her hand, "Don't worry, I'm here with you."

"Okay." Jessica was still very nervous, but she also felt a faint sense of anticipation.

As they neared the house, Jessica suddenly found the villa in front of her somewhat familiar.

"Honey, I remember this building seems to be..."

"I remember now, it's Vincent's house."

"Could the lead be at their place?"

At this point, Gabriel no longer hid the truth and spoke openly.

"Since we found out Dad was a police officer, Vincent has more connections and resources in this area than I do, so I asked him for help."

"Do you know what Vincent just told me?"

Jessica asked, "What?"

"Jessica, you won't believe it, but Vincent's mom knows Dad."

Hearing this, Jessica was stunned and it took her a moment to collect herself.

"Honey, is what you're saying true?"

"Vincent told me himself, it can't be false."

Jessica felt like she was dreaming. After all the effort she had put in, the person with the information was right beside her all along.

As they entered the house, Jessica's heart was pounding.

Gabriel held her hand tightly as they walked forward.

In the living room, Alexis and Vincent were already waiting.

Jessica walked up to Alexis, "Mrs. Lucas, I'm sorry to bother you."

Alexis immediately stood up, excitedly grabbing Jessica's hand, her expression a mix of sadness and joy.

"Don't say that, Jessica. Come here, let me take a good look at you."

"Jessica, you've had a hard time all these years. If I had known Ulysses had a daughter, I would have found you no matter what."

Alexis hugged Jessica tightly.

She was even more emotional than Jessica, both crying and laughing.

It wasn't until Alexis calmed down a bit and noticed Jessica's pregnant belly that she let go.

Wiping her tears, Alexis said, "I lost my composure, but I'm just so happy."

"Mrs. Lucas," Jessica hesitated, "Do you know my father?"

Alexis pulled her to sit beside her, "Of course I do. If I had known you were Ulysses's daughter, I wouldn't have let you wander alone for so many years. It's my fault; I should have thought more when I found your mom's photo familiar last time."

"Mrs. Lucas, can you tell me about my father?"

Alexis nodded and began to speak slowly.

"Your father's name was Ulysses Lucas. Vincent's father was named Patrick Lucas. They graduated from the same police academy, not only classmates but also roommates. Since they both had the last name, Lucas, they became sworn brothers."

"After graduating, they worked together at the police station. They were very close, always working side by side for several years. At that time, Patrick and I were very much in love, and with our parents' approval, we got married right after graduation."

"Not long after the wedding, I got pregnant with Ennifer. We were a happy family. Ulysses always envied Patrick, but Ulysses was introverted and quiet, and with his busy work, he never had a girlfriend."

"Two years later, Patrick told me Ulysses had a girlfriend. I was very happy for him and told Ulysses to bring her over to meet me. Ulysses showed me a photo and said he would bring her over for dinner soon."

"Mom," Vincent interrupted at the right moment, "Since you saw Jessica's mom's photo, why didn't you recognize her back then?"

"Because Ulysses's work was dangerous at that time, he didn't dare to carry a single photo of Giselle. The photo he showed me was a group photo, and he pointed out which one was Giselle. I only saw it once and didn't remember it well. Plus, it was so many years ago, that I had almost forgotten."

"Another reason is that a month later, when we had dinner together, Ulysses said they had broken up, so I didn't make an effort to remember."

Alexis paused and looked at Jessica, "I never thought that meeting would be the last time I saw both Patrick and Ulysses."

"Mom?" Vincent choked up.

Over the years, he had asked Alexis many times about Patrick's death.

But Alexis never spoke about it.

Not only that, but she also sealed away all of Patrick's belongings, not allowing anyone to mention him.

When Vincent was young, he always asked.

But every time he asked, Alexis would become very depressed and lock herself in her room to cry.

Ennifer told him, "Don't ask anymore. Not everything needs an answer."

As Vincent grew older, he stopped asking to avoid making Alexis sad.

So Patrick's death became a taboo in their family.

No one mentioned it again.

And now, Alexis was willing to talk about it.

"Mom, why was it the last time? How did Dad and Mr. Ulysses Lucas pass away?"
