Chapter 318 Jessica is Pregnant 2
Jessica was filled with joy and excitement. She just thought Gabriel was too happy and forgot to react.
But ten seconds passed, then twenty...
A minute or two later, Gabriel was still standing there, frozen like a statue.
Unable to wait any longer, Jessica waved her hand in front of his face, calling, "Gabriel."
Gabriel finally snapped out of it. He hugged Jessica tightly, burying his head in her neck.
But no one knew how complicated his expression was.
"Gabriel, what's wrong? Aren't you happy to hear that I'm pregnant?" Jessica asked, puzzled, as she was held in his arms.
She felt that Gabriel's reaction was a bit off.
Sure, he was shocked, but it shouldn't have been to the point where he had no reaction for so long.
"Happy," Gabriel said, forcing out the word bitterly.
"Then why aren't you smiling? Why didn't you cheer? Or are you not looking forward to the baby's arrival at all?" Jessica's emotions immediately became sensitive.
Gabriel smiled and comforted her, "No, I'm very much looking forward to it. As long as it's a baby from you, I will love it."
"But you..."
"No buts, it's just that it was so sudden. I didn't expect it at all, so I was too surprised," Gabriel explained.
Jessica didn't doubt this explanation.
Because she knew that when she found out she was pregnant, she was also in shock for a long time before she truly reacted.
Not only that, but even now, she was still in a state of immense shock.
So, he needed time to process it too, right?
At dinner, Gabriel asked the maid to prepare a few more delicious dishes, and Jessica ate very comfortably.
After taking a bath, she lay on the bed and fell asleep in Gabriel's arms.
In her dream, she must have had a good one, as her mouth was curved in a joyful smile.
With her eyes closed, she looked serene and beautiful.
Gabriel watched, feeling more and more infatuated.
He reached out, gently brushing away the hair on her forehead, and then lowering his head to plant a cherished kiss on her forehead.
Finally, he quietly got out of bed.
He opened the glass door and walked onto the balcony.
Just a door away, the bedroom was warm and filled with happiness, while on the balcony, the night was deep and the wind howled fiercely.
Gabriel didn't put on a coat. He just stood there, staring blankly at the empty sky and earth, looking at the night that seemed to swallow everything.
The night was so dark, almost pitch black.
Only a tiny spark of light flickered at his fingertips.
He didn't remember how many cigarettes he had smoked, nor how many thoughts had crossed his mind, only to be dismissed one by one.
Looking up at the starry sky, he felt no joy at all.
Even breathing was a scorching pain.
How could it not hurt?
The woman he loved most was carrying Jack's child, someone he deeply hated.
This was a colossal joke.
If he could, he wished he could continue deceiving himself.
But, a month?
A month ago, they had only made love once, and he had used a condom the entire time. It was almost impossible for her to get pregnant.
So, the only explanation was that Jack hadn't lied; he really had sex with her.
Thinking of this, Gabriel felt like his heart was being torn apart.
Even breathing was fatal.
When Gabriel got back to the bedroom, he felt like an ice sculpture, cold and empty inside.
Seeing her peaceful, beautiful face on the bed, he was overwhelmed with a pain he couldn't share with her.
He could only bury it deep in his heart, silently endure it.
But even in pain, he could never let go of her in this lifetime.
He whispered to himself, "Jessica, you're mine. For this lifetime, no matter what happens, you can only be mine."
Then, as if to prove something, Gabriel slipped under the covers and urgently pulled Jessica into his arms.
The sudden cold made Jessica shiver. She groggily opened her eyes, saw it was Gabriel, and then closed her eyes again, snuggling closer to him.
That night, they slept in each other's arms.
Jessica had a rare, sweet, and fulfilling dream.
At dawn, as the first rays of the sun shone in, Jessica woke up.
Bathed in the morning light, she smiled happily.
Thinking of the baby, she immediately reached out to touch her small belly.
Only then did she realize that Gabriel's hand was resting on her lower abdomen.
Instantly, she felt a warm sensation in her heart.
Jessica leaned against his chest like a happy little kitten, filled with joy.
"Did you sleep well?"
Upon waking, Gabriel gently rubbed Jessica's soft hair and asked tenderly.
Jessica smiled and nodded, "I slept well. I woke up early.
"Gabriel, you know what? Last night, I had a very cute dream. I dreamt that the baby was talking to me, saying that he would meet us in nine months.
"He also asked me to guess whether he was a boy or a girl.
"Gabriel, why don't we guess? Do you think it's a boy or a girl?"
Gabriel just squinted his eyes and listened. Every word Jessica said felt like a knife stabbing into his heart.
But he could only endure it, unable to show any of it.
"Gabriel."
After waiting for a long time without an answer, Jessica pouted and looked at Gabriel unhappily.
She complained, "You're so slow! Why does it take you so long to think about a question? It's just a guess; you can guess anything. Or, do you prefer a boy or a girl? Gabriel, you never seriously told me whether you prefer a boy or a girl."
"A girl," he said.
Because when she grows up, she would look a lot like Jessica, gentle and cute, making people want to protect her.
But?
He wanted their daughter!
Not someone else's daughter.
His heart full of bitterness, Gabriel suddenly sat up and held Jessica in his arms.
At the same time, his warm hand rested on her lower abdomen, and he asked, "Jessica, do we have to have this baby now? Can we wait another year?"
As soon as she heard Gabriel's words, all the smiles on Jessica's face disappeared.
She trembled and looked at him in disbelief, asking, "What do you mean? You don't want this baby, do you?"
As she spoke, tears started to fall from her eyes without warning.
Gabriel knew this would happen, which was why he had been hesitant to speak all night.
He hugged her tightly and gently coaxed, "I'm sorry, Jessica. I didn't mean that. I don't want to lose you both, but I want to wait a bit longer for the baby, okay?"
"But what about this baby? It's already here. Do you want me to give it up?" Jessica looked at him, asking painfully.
