Chapter 596 The Truth 1
Since Gabriel didn't get any information from Alexis, he left first.
After seeing Gabriel off, Vincent asked Alexis again.
"Mom," Vincent called out to her, his voice hoarse, "if you know something, please tell me."
He could tell that Alexis was hiding something.
Not only he, but Gabriel also noticed it.
That was why Gabriel hesitated when he left.
Alexis shook her head, "Vincent, what are you talking about? I've already told you everything I know."
"Really?" Vincent stared straight at her.
That sharp and scrutinizing gaze made Alexis's heart tremble.
But she quickly avoided his gaze and changed the subject, "Vincent, I'm a bit tired and want to rest for a while. You should go out first."
"Mom."
Alexis rubbed her head, "I have a headache. Didn't you ask me to think carefully? Only if I rest well can I think clearly."
Vincent was helpless; after all, he couldn't threaten his mother.
"Alright, I'll go out first then."
After he left, Alexis clutched her chest, gasping for breath, unable to calm down for a long time.
Time flew by. In the blink of an eye, three days had passed.
Gabriel had used almost all his connections and finally targeted a villa far from the city.
"Are you sure?" He stared at the location on the map, asking in a deep voice.
Louie nodded confidently, "Yes, we saw the car holding Mrs. Walton and Dr. Ingram enter from a surveillance camera, and it never came out."
"Get it."
Gabriel extinguished his cigarette, lifted his deep eyes to Louie, and gave a decisive order.
"With you included, I need a hundred of our best men. Make sure everyone wears bulletproof vests and be ready. We move out at midnight."
"As for everything you need, I'll have Oscar prepare it all."
Louie immediately responded, "Okay, Mr. Walton."
Vincent changed his clothes and prepared everything.
Before leaving, Vincent knocked on Alexis's door.
Alexis panicked immediately, looking at him nervously, "Vincent, what are you doing?"
"Mom, please let me finish."
Alexis was in tears, feeling very distressed.
"Mom, I know you're hiding something. Although I don't know why, I believe you love me."
"You're my mother; I won't force you."
"But for Jessica's sake, please forgive me. I must save her. If something happens to her, I won't be able to live peacefully in this world. The mission might be dangerous, and I'm afraid I might not come back."
Vincent continued, "So, Mom, you must be happy and safe."
After saying that, he began to turn away, "Mom, I'm leaving."
At that moment, Alexis couldn't hold back anymore.
She rushed over, chasing after Vincent, and grabbed him.
"Vincent, wait for a moment. I just want to ask you one question. Do you have to go?"
Vincent looked at her and nodded firmly, "Yes."
Alexis looked at him sorrowfully, tears streaming down her face.
Finally, with red eyes and a trembling voice, she said, "Fine, since you want to know so badly, I'll tell you everything. I hope it's not too late."
"Mom." Vincent looked at her excitedly.
Alexis held his hand and began to speak, "Back then, your dad and Ulysses were assigned to go undercover in a drug cartel to provide information and help take them down."
"At first, everything went smoothly. I heard many news about drug dens being destroyed."
"But later..."
Alexis's shoulders began to tremble, and tears fell, "I suddenly received a call from the police, saying your dad was dead and asking me to identify the body."
"I was pregnant with you at the time, only a few months along. The news shocked me; I couldn't believe it."
"On the way there, I kept praying that it wasn't your dad. But when I saw that face, my hopes were shattered."
"The body lying in front of me was your dad. Vincent, you don't know how miserable he looked when he died."
Recalling those painful memories, Alexis cried so hard she could barely breathe, "His body was covered in wounds. The autopsy showed he had dozens of injuries all over, and that wasn't the worst part. His chest had been stabbed over ten times, each wound fatal."
"His chest had several bloody holes."
Alexis clutched her chest, tears streaming down, her heart aching as if it were being torn apart.
Her voice trembled uncontrollably, "Finally, the coroner found over ten bullets in his body. Over ten! Your dad was practically turned into a sieve by bullets, there wasn't a part of him left intact."
"As for his face, it had been slashed and soaked in river water for a day, leaving it swollen, bloated, and nearly decayed."
"All these years, I still don't dare to recall how your dad looked when he died. It was too horrific."
Vincent held Alexis tightly in his arms.
Vincent's heart was filled with suppressed anger and hatred.
Clenching his fists tightly, Vincent's eyes were fixed on a spot. Though he said nothing, his emotions spoke volumes.
"How did Dad die?" Vincent asked through gritted teeth, a question that had troubled him for decades.
"The autopsy showed that your dad had ingested a large amount of drugs. Not only that, but his stomach was also empty, indicating he hadn't eaten for days."
"So they speculated that your dad's identity was discovered, and he was forced to take drugs and tortured to death."
After saying all this, Alexis was completely exhausted.
Vincent could only help her lie down on the bed.
Alexis's eyes were severely swollen.
But she still insisted on holding Vincent's hand, "Vincent, now you know why I didn't want you to become a police officer!"
"I already lost the man I loved most. I can't lose my only son too."
"Your dad died so horribly. Every year on his death anniversary, I have nightmares, dreaming of him telling me not let you to seek revenge."
"So Vincent, I hope you don't get involved. Those people are a bunch of desperados. Life means nothing to them. They are terrifying."
Vincent understood Alexis's fear.
So he held her hand tightly.
"Mom, don't worry. I'm not Dad, and I won't follow in his footsteps."
"But these people must be brought to justice. Even if it's not me, it will be someone else. Since I chose to be a police officer, I must bear this responsibility."
"I must save Jessica."
"And I will find out the truth about Dad's death."
