Chapter 328 You Have No Idea What I Want
The place went dead silent all of a sudden, and when Gabriel spun around, there was Jessica, not too far off. Seeing her biting her lip, looking pale as a ghost, his heart sank like a stone. Ignoring Jack, Gabriel dashed over to Jessica.
"Jessica, let me explain," he said, his voice shaky and urgent.
"I'm not leaving, don't worry. I'll talk to you. You deal with him first. I'll wait for you in the car." Jessica turned and walked to the car with determination.
As time ticked by, her heart grew calmer. She thought she'd be a mess, crying her eyes out like before. But nope, not this time. This time, she was eerily calm. So calm it freaked her out.
Gabriel and Jack stood there, staring each other down, neither budging an inch.
Gabriel said, "Jack, I'm not gonna waste words. Here's the deal: whether the baby in Jessica's belly is yours or not, I'm not giving her or the baby to you. If you back off and leave us alone, I'll let you walk away with some dignity. But if you try to take what's not yours, I'll make sure you and your mom go back to being dirt poor, with nothing."
Jack sneered, "Why, Gabriel? You think I'm still the same weakling you could push around? Times have changed; I'm not who I used to be."
"So what? Even with your new strength, going up against the Walton Family is still a death wish." Gabriel's eyes were icy, his stare piercing.
"Is that so?" Jack snorted, mocking him, "Don't get too cocky, and don't overestimate yourself."
"Then let's wait and see." With that, Gabriel didn't give him another glance and took off running. He had bigger fish to fry, no time for this nonsense.
When he got to the car, he saw Jessica had moved to the back seat.
Without a second thought, Gabriel opened the back door and said, "Come up front; sit next to me."
"No need, I'm good back here."
"Jessica." He looked at her, his eyes still gentle, his voice soft but firm. "I don't like repeating myself, and I don't mind doing it the hard way."
"I said I'm fine back here." Jessica was just as stubborn.
Without another word, Gabriel bent down and reached for her. Jessica tried to resist, but she was no match for him. Gabriel grabbed her hands with one hand, wrapped his other arm around her waist, and pulled her close.
"Jerk, this is force; let me go." Jessica wasn't about to give in easily. Her arms were pinned, so she used her legs, kicking and struggling with all her might.
Suddenly, Gabriel winced and shouted in pain. Jessica eased up but kept kicking. Gabriel shouted in pain again.
He looked down at her, his deep eyes locking onto hers, and said in a low voice, "Calm down; stop kicking. Do you even know where you just kicked?"
"I don't care, let me go."
"How can you not care? If you kick and break me, what about your future happiness?" He glanced down at his crotch.
Jessica followed his gaze and suddenly got it. Blushing, she snapped, "Shameless. Bastard, let me go."
Gabriel tightened his grip. Taking advantage of her momentary hesitation, he quickly pulled her into his arms and placed her in the front seat, then bent down and fastened her seatbelt.
"I don't want to buckle up; let me go. I want to go to the back. I don't want to sit with a liar like you." Jessica was still fuming and didn't want to cooperate.
"Sit tight; we'll talk at home." Gabriel softened his tone, trying to calm her down.
Jessica finally stopped resisting so violently. Gabriel immediately went around and got into the car. He drove like a maniac, and in just over ten minutes, they were home.
Gabriel opened the passenger door and reached out to help Jessica.
Jessica pushed him away. "No need, I can walk myself."
Back home, she plopped down on the sofa, staring at Gabriel. "What do you wanna say?"
Gabriel walked over, squatted beside her, and wrapped her small hand in his, looking up at her gently. "Jessica, I know you're mad. I promise, no matter who the father of this baby is, it won't change anything between us. I'll treat them like my own and take good care of them. To me, the baby has nothing to do with Jack. He's just your baby. I love you, so I'll love them too."
Jessica thought he understood where he went wrong. On the way back, even though she was angry, she kept making excuses for him. She even told herself that as long as he knew he was wrong, she'd forgive him, and they'd move on. But she didn't expect him to miss the point entirely. She was still too naive!
"Gabriel." Jessica looked at him with disappointment, saying, "So, should I thank you for your generosity and tolerance, and for loving me so deeply with your selfless love?"
"Jessica, everything is my choice," Gabriel offered sincerely.
Jessica couldn't help but laugh mockingly, "Gabriel, you don't even know where you're wrong? You don't even know what I want?"
"Treat him as your baby?" She crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing. "Ask yourself; can you really do that? He's Jack's baby, and you hate him. Can you truly love them as your own?"
"Fine, even if you can, have you thought about when we have our own baby one day, will you still love them the same? Will you split the Walton Family property equally between the two babies?"
"No, you can't. Saying you'll treat him as your own baby, it's just talk, self-deception. You can't even fool yourself. How can you fool me?"
She looked directly into his eyes, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Gabriel, admit it; you can't do it."
"No." Gabriel shook his head, gripping Jessica's hand tightly, saying, "Jessica, I can do it. I will do it. If you're willing, I can split half of my property with them right now."
Jessica looked at him speechlessly. She smiled, but it was a cold, calm smile. "Gabriel, even now you don't know what I care about? You don't know what I want?"
