Chapter 454 Helping Grandma
"Grandma, you and Mom always teach Freddy and me not to lie, but I find that you adults lie more than kids do."
"Grandpa likes Grandma a lot, so why aren't you as loving as Mom and Dad?"

Danielle tried hard to control herself and picked up the magazine next to her.

"How?"
"I'll borrow Grandma's phone and call Grandpa, saying Grandma asked me to."

After their discussion, Freddy put on his shoes and walked over to Danielle.
"Grandma, I miss Mommy. I want to video call her."
"Grandma, I miss Mommy too," Gilbert chimed in.
Danielle didn't think much of it and immediately handed them the phone. "Okay, you can video call Mommy."
"Thank you, Grandma!"
With the phone in hand, Gilbert and Freddy mysteriously walked towards the door.
Danielle called after them, "Why are you going so far to make a video call?"
"Grandma, it's a secret!"
With that, Gilbert and Freddy quietly left the room.
Outside, they found a quieter place and immediately dialed Jonah's number.
On the other end, Jonah could hardly believe his eyes.
Danielle?
Holding the phone, his hands were trembling violently.
Why would she call him?
In the past five years, ever since Gabriel recovered from being shot, she had never called him once.
This was the first time.
Jonah couldn't help but feel excited.
Holding the phone, he carefully answered, "Danielle, are you looking for me?"
However, before Jonah could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by Freddy and Gilbert's voices, "Grandpa, it's us, not Grandma!"
Jonah immediately said gently, "Freddy, Gilbert, is there something you need?"
At that moment, Jonah had to admit he felt a pang of disappointment.
It turned out his excitement was for nothing.
"Grandpa, are you hurt?"
"Freddy, why do you ask?"
"Because someone just came back and said a fierce man took you away. Grandma is worried about you!"
"You mean... Your Grandma is worried about me?" Jonah asked, almost in disbelief.
Gilbert nodded vigorously and explained seriously, "Of course, as soon as Grandma heard you might be in trouble, she couldn't even focus on her favorite magazine."
"But Grandma and Mom are both so arrogant. This call wasn't our idea; Grandma asked us to call and check if you're okay."
Listening to this, Jonah felt like he was about to explode with frustration.
Even his breathing became more rapid.
He excitedly explained, "I'm fine."
"Tell your Grandma I'll be back soon and don't worry."
"Okay, Grandpa, hurry back. Grandma and we are waiting for you."
After hanging up, Jonah suppressed his excitement and stepped on the gas, rushing home.
At that moment, even if his lips were cut and bleeding and his wounds were burning with pain, it didn't seem to matter.
Only the steady, strong rhythm of his heartbeat stood out.
Was Danielle willing to care about him again?
Did that mean she was willing to forgive him and try to accept him?
Jonah arrived home and pushed open the door.
Seeing Danielle sitting in the living room, Jonah almost ran over impatiently.
"Danielle, I'm back!"
Because he was in such a hurry, Jonah was still panting, and his forehead was covered in sweat.
Danielle immediately noticed the injury on his lips, and even his entire face was bruised and swollen.
Some parts of Jonah's face were scraped, with dried blood still visible.
It was a shocking sight.
"Your wounds..." Danielle put down the magazine and stood up unconsciously, and her voice became flustered.
Seeing this, Gilbert and Freddy shared a knowing grin.
Jessica had already come home from work and was playing with them.
Suddenly, Gilbert and Freddy put down their toys and took Jessica's hand. "Mommy, Grandpa, and Grandma are going to whisper. Let's go inside!"
Then, Gilbert and Freddy each took one of her hands and led her upstairs.
In the room, Jessica looked at the bright, mischievous eyes of Gilbert and Freddy and thought of the way Jonah and Danielle had looked at each other earlier. She immediately understood.
"What did you do?" she asked curiously.
Gilbert immediately smiled and said softly, "We were playing with Grandma at home, and someone said Grandpa might be in danger. Grandma was worried but pretended not to care, just like you."
Jessica was silent.
Gilbert and Freddy were something, already learning to tease their mother.
It seemed Gilbert and Freddy were too smart, inheriting their father's excellent genes.
But this often made her feel out of place with them.
"Keep talking!"
Gilbert spread his hands and continued in an adult-like manner. "So we helped Grandma."
"How?"
Jessica realized Gilbert was deliberately stopping halfway to pique her interest.
"Mommy, you haven't kissed me since you got back. If you kiss me, I'll tell you everything." Gilbert closed his eyes and slightly raised his head.
Looking at the face that resembled Gabriel's so much, Jessica's heart felt even more tender.
Especially in the glow of the sunset, the curve of Gilbert's profile looked just like Gabriel's.
It had been two days since she last saw Gabriel, but she missed Gabriel so much.
