Chapter 100 Fragile Sarah
It was clear as day from Sarah’s story that Ethan had saved her. It wasn't just Clarence who owed him a favor, but also the entire Harris family.
Obviously, Clarence was distinguishing himself from the Harris family on purpose.
Seeing through the ruse but choosing to keep quiet, Ethan didn't probe the matter further. He simply smiled and said, “Even if it weren't for you, I would’ve saved her out of her friendship with Chloe.”
On the other side, Clarence was momentarily stunned. He thought to himself, ‘What a clever young man!’
He voiced his doubts, “I'm curious; how did you locate Sarah before the Harris family did?”
His intuition told him that Ethan, who had left the Wilsons, wasn't alone. Tonight's events exposed many questions!
Coupled with Alice's role in the QU Group incident before, it increased Clarence's view of Ethan's abilities to another level.
Ethan reminded with a smile, “Sorry, but I’ll have to keep that a secret. Otherwise, I wouldn't know how I'd die tomorrow!”
“My apologies; I got too curious. Since Seattle’s issue is settled, you and Sarah should come back earlier. I'll take care of things here!” Clarence said, his voice filled with bitterness.
After returning the phone to Sarah, Ethan prepared to leave for his own room. However, Sarah suddenly grabbed his hand.
Ethan's arm slightly stiffened. But when he saw Sarah's pitiful look, his heart softened. “What's the matter? Frank and Wally have already been taken care of. You'll be safe in the hotel, so don’t worry anymore.”
“But I'm still scared! Can’t you stay in the room with me tonight?” Sarah pleaded reluctantly, her eyes filled with helplessness.
“You want me to stay in your room with you?” Ethan's expression turned strange.
Sarah instantly blushed as she pouted, “Don't misunderstand! I'm just scared, so I want you to stay here. I don't have any other intentions! If you think of anything else, I’ll…”
Seemingly feeling guilty, she originally wanted to say she'd tell Chloe if he dared to do anything, but her words were stuck in her throat.
Ethan said with a wry smile, “Okay, I'll stay on the couch. You take a shower first and then rest in bed,”
“Oh, and you’re not allowed to run away.” Sarah reminded while worried. Seeing him actually sit on the couch, she took her new clothes and entered the bathroom.
When he heard running water from the bathroom, Ethan took out his phone and dialed Alice's number.
When the call connected, Alice's angry voice came through the phone. “I'm jealous!”
He was surprised, “What's the matter now?”
She asked, “You’re in Miss Harris’s room right now, no? You're going to stay there all night, aren't you?”
Ethan explained with a wry smile, “I am in her room, but it's not what you think. She's just scared today and doesn’t want to be alone!”
“Are you really not going to take that chance and have some fun with that little beauty?” Alice's tone was slightly playful and envious, enticing Ethan.
“What kind of person do you think I am?” he replied bitterly.
Alice seriously replied, “Of course you’re a man; a normal one!”
Ethan changed the topic, “Anyway, I called to remind you to hide our people well and not let other forces discover them. Now isn’t the right time to expose them.”
“Don't worry, can't you trust someone Eric trained? It won't attract attention! However, your actions tonight will definitely raise suspicions among the Harris family,” Alice reminded him calmly.
Ethan didn't pay much attention to this matter. “It doesn’t matter right now. They won't find anything for a while, anyway.”
Alice snorted, “How are you planning to thank me?”
“How do you want me to?” Ethan responded in silence, afraid that she’d ask him to sacrifice himself.
“How about thanking me with your body? I have a flight tomorrow morning!” she giggled for a while before suddenly changing the subject.
“Then I’ll send you off at the airport.” Ethan took a deep breath, his heart suddenly feeling guilt.
“Alright, wait for me,” After saying that, Alice hung up.
Ethan shook his head. He composed himself and dialed Chloe's number.
He knew that she must’ve heard about the situation here, probably very worried about them!
The reason why she didn’t call him was probably because she was afraid of disturbing him, waiting for him to assure her of his safety.
Sure enough, as soon as the call rang once, it was immediately answered.
“Ethan, are you both okay?” Chloe's anxious and nervous voice came through the other end.
“Yes, we're both fine. I’m sorry for worrying you!”
A warm smile appeared on his face. He knew she was always concerned about him, feeling that being cared and looked after was really nice.
Chloe quickly asked, “Is everything in Seattle taken care of? Grandpa Clarence said you’d be back soon!”
Ethan promised, “Yes, we'll return by latest the day after tomorrow. I'll have Sarah book the plane tickets tomorrow.”
“Then get some rest earlier. I know you must be tired, so let's talk more when you come back!” she didn’t want to disturb him, ending the call herself.
Her concern warmed his heart, but at the same time, he felt some distance from her. This made him somewhat uneasy.
It’d be better for him to properly talk with her once they returned.
That night, Ethan stayed in Sarah's room, making do for the night.
Sarah quickly fell asleep, but her sleep was uneasy as she seemed scared.
On the couch, Ethan could hear her occasional murmurs from inside the room, as if she was having awful nightmares.
“What’re you going to do?”
“Ethan... Ethan, don't leave...”
“Ethan, save me...”
Listening to her shouts, he felt sympathetic as he walked to her bedside and grabbed her restless hand.
Sarah was still lost in her dreams, her forehead covered in cold sweat and her beautiful face contorting in pain. It was only when Ethan held her hand that she finally calmed down, her furrowed eyebrows relaxing.
Ethan sighed in relief, deciding to just stay there throughout the night. Thanks to his presence, she managed to sleep peacefully for two hours before dawn. When she woke up the next morning, she saw that she was still tightly holding his large hand against her chest.
