Chapter 667 The Mysterious Disappearance
When leaving Fragrant Garden, Ethan and Angela both felt a heavy weight.
After hearing from Ethan that the world was about to descend into chaos, Norman and Remington were clearly feeling overwhelmed, and their eyes showed a sense of unwillingness.
However, reality was cruel. No one knew what would happen, and it was not something they could solve with their influence.
Everything went more smoothly than expected. Ethan hadn't planned to stay long in Everglow City and intended to return to Novaria after having dinner with Angela at her home.
After getting in the car, Angela asked Ethan with a worried frown. "They're going to be busy now. Do you think they can stabilize the situation?"
"It's difficult. Controlling those people might not even be possible with firearms, let alone on their own turf! We'll just have to see how chaotic it gets." Ethan shook his head and said with a bitter smile.
After a moment of silence, Angela suddenly asked. "Can I stay and help them?"
"No, our relationship is no longer a secret. If someone targets me, you'll definitely become a target too!" Ethan immediately rejected Angela's request.
Angela clenched her fists in frustration but ultimately accepted the reality.
Ethan was right; she understood the stakes. This wasn't the time for her to be stubborn. Although she had a strong and sometimes even willful personality, her long-term work had taught her to see the bigger picture and know her limits.
"Let's go back first, have dinner with your parents, and then we'll return to Novaria. As for the situation here, leave it to Norman and Remington. Things might not escalate to the worst-case scenario. The primary target of those hidden sects is definitely me." Ethan patted Angela's shoulder and gently reminded her.
Angela nodded in agreement, started the car, and headed home.
To their surprise, they ran into Marco at the gate as soon as they returned to the residential area.
"Angela, Ethan!" Marco saw Angela's car and immediately ran over excitedly.
"Marco, why are you hanging around the gate again? Did you make another bet with Leo?" Ethan couldn't help but tease when he saw Marco.
Marco was honest and straightforward, much more so than Leo, and it was obvious that Leo always took advantage of him.
"No, he's been doing well lately and was reassigned to the camp the day before yesterday!" Marco quickly shook his head and explained.
Ethan suddenly realized that taking Leo to see Norman last time had indeed brought him some benefits.
After all, they knew each other, and he hoped Leo would continue to do well.
"Do you need something from us?" Angela asked suspiciously.
"I heard you were back, but when I went to your house, no one was there. I was about to call you when you showed up!" Marco casually explained, "I just wanted to say hi, nothing special."
Angela looked puzzled. "How could no one be home? My mom should be there."
If it were any other day, Cynthia might have gone to chat with friends, but today she knew Angela and Ethan were coming back for dinner. Cynthia wouldn't have gone out.
"I called out, and no one answered. Maybe she went grocery shopping?" Marco suggested.
"Let's go check it out!" Angela didn't think much of it and decided to go see for herself.
"Wait for me! I was hoping to join you for dinner!" Marco saw Angela's car speed off and quickly ran after it.
But with his short legs, he couldn't keep up with the car.
After parking the car at home, Angela took out her keys to open the door and see if Cynthia was home.
"There's really no one here!"
Before Angela could look around, Ethan, who had already checked the villa several times, spoke up.
"She must have gone out for something. I'll call her." Angela took out her phone and dialed Cynthia's number.
However, the phone indicated it was turned off, which made Angela's eyes widen. "My mom rarely turns off her phone!"
A bad feeling crept into Angela's heart, and her face turned pale with panic.
"Maybe it's just a coincidence. Try calling your dad." Ethan frowned and tried to comfort Angela while suggesting.
Angela quickly dialed Lorenzo's number.
But the phone was also turned off, which made Angela panic even more.
"Both my parents' phones are off. What's going on?" Angela's voice trembled.
"Don't panic. Call your dad's workplace and see if they know where he is. This neighborhood has surveillance cameras, so we can..." Ethan was about to suggest asking Marco to check the surveillance footage when Marco arrived, panting.
Angela immediately contacted the Academy of Sciences to inquire about Lorenzo.
Ethan briefly explained the situation to Marco.
Marco's face changed, and he quickly called the duty room to check the surveillance footage.
Ten minutes later, the three of them were staring at the surveillance footage, all frowning in confusion.
The footage showed that Cynthia hadn't left the house from the time Ethan and Angela left until they returned.
But a living person had mysteriously disappeared from the house, which was like a paranormal event!
The feedback from Lorenzo's workplace was the same. Lorenzo, who should have been in the lab, had suddenly disappeared, and the surveillance footage showed no trace of him!
"Ethan, what's going on? Did those people do this? Are they targeting my parents because they can't get to us?" Angela was panicking, clutching Ethan's arm and asking urgently.
"Don't worry. If it really is those people, your parents should be safe. At least until they achieve their goal, they won't harm your parents. Their target is me!" Ethan's face was grim, and he clenched his fists.
If Cynthia and Lorenzo had indeed fallen into the hands of those hidden sects, it was because of him. They were Angela's parents, and he couldn't let anything happen to them!
Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to forgive himself, let alone Angela.
What seemed like a paranormal event to ordinary people was something only these elusive cultivators could accomplish!
"Angela, Ethan, what's going on? What are you two talking about?" Marco was anxious, but he couldn't understand what Ethan and Angela were saying.
But one thing was clear: someone had made Lorenzo and Cynthia disappear to threaten Ethan!
