Chapter 178 A Monk

Encountering Maria and Kenny was just a minor incident for Ethan.

If Ethan possibly considered Kenny as a strong opponent before meeting him, now he was merely a slightly impressive and refined loser.

That's how Kenny came across to Ethan. It wasn't that he didn't take him seriously, but rather that Kenny's pretentiousness made Ethan feel like the other person's intelligence hadn't fully developed.

In fact, Ethan's analysis was almost spot on. Kenny, who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and never faced any setbacks, had always had everything handed to him on a platter. It made him feel superior to everyone else.

In terms of cunning, Ethan surpassed him by miles, so Kenny was still not a qualified opponent in his eyes!

That night, Ethan treated Sarah to a French dinner and they watched a romantic comedy movie before taking a taxi back to the military housing complex.

However, they encountered a minor issue when they were entering the complex. Remington's driver personally came out to escort them in.

The night went without any trouble, and the next morning Ethan played chess with Remington to pass the time. This time, he didn't play the trick of purposely losing. They played for a few hours with occasional wins and losses.

Of course, when Ethan lost, it was intentional.

"You rascal, you purposely let me win two moves. You thought I wouldn't notice? I won't play anymore. Playing chess with you only makes me feel like I've wasted my senior years!"

Remington had a tantrum in the end, directly flipping the chessboard and humming in frustration.

"Ethan couldn't resist teasing, "It doesn't seem like Remington is someone who can't handle losing?"

“Who said I can't handle it? I, Remington, may not assert myself in many things, but I can be generous when needed. I know how to accept victory and defeat. Do I need you to remind me?" Remington retorted sharply, looking displeased.

"Yes, yes, you are right. Don't get yourself too worked up. Bennit will definitely have me shot when he returns!" Ethan said, both crying and smiling, nodding repeatedly.

After having lunch, Ethan prepared to leave for Fragrant Garden.

Bennit seemed to have an important meeting today, so he couldn't come back. Remington instructed the driver to take Ethan there.

Remington's driver held a legitimate Colonel rank, although he doesn't hold an active position. But anyone who knows him wouldn't dare to look down on him.

In a way, the driver could also be considered Remington's spokesperson.

Passing by the outer courtyard of Fragrant Garden, Ethan saw a few familiar faces observing something on the path. He distinctly remembered that these few people were the descendants of the Miller family who were guarding Rodolfo that day.

Ethan couldn't help but have a thought and immediately lowered his stature, trying his best to avoid being seen by outsiders.

"Mr. Wilson, what are you doing?" the driver asked, not understanding why Ethan was acting this way, finding it somewhat amusing.

"Just drive and don't let anyone see me. Those few people are probably looking for me, and I can't let them know about me right now!" Ethan immediately signaled for the driver to drive normally and not to sell him out.

Luckily, those people from the Miller family didn't notice him as they entered the inner courtyard, and Ethan felt relieved.

Meeting Mr. Grant again, this time in his room.

Having had two previous experiences, the third treatment was a routine procedure for both Ethan and Mr. Grant. Within an hour, the entire treatment process was finished.

"It is good today. There's still a small amount of toxins remaining in your body, but I will completely eliminate them in the next session."

Ethan was surprised by the rapid progress of his training. After pushing himself to the limit with intense energy consumption, he noticed his abilities growing stronger. The continuous improvement surpassed his expectations. Ethan found himself enjoying this method of self-improvement through practical training, which proved to be more effective than his previous solitary cultivation.

"Kid, is the toxin in my body really a toxin?" Mr. Grant suddenly asked, catching Ethan off guard.

"Why do you ask?" Ethan raised an eyebrow and asked in return.

"Don't rush to leave today, young man. I won't challenge you to a chess game, but you'll have to wait a bit. I have an esteemed guest who I also plan to introduce to you," Mr. Grant said with a smile.

"Your guest?" Ethan's curiosity was piqued.

"Oh!" Just then, a man wearing robes walked in from the door. He appeared to be in his sixties or seventies, but he looked very prosperous. His face was full of smiles and radiated three parts joy and seven parts benevolence, just like a Maitreya Buddha.

"Master KuYi!" Mr. Grant stood up and greeted the monk politely.

"Master," Ethan understood instantly that this monk was probably the esteemed guest Mr. Grant mentioned.

But why did Mr. Grant want to introduce him to Ethan? Could it be related to the question Mr. Grant asked earlier?

"The stagnation in Norman's body has dissipated quite a bit. It must be thanks to this young practitioner, right?" Master KuYi glanced at Mr. Grant and then turned his gaze to Ethan.

"Yes, this is Ethan, whom I mentioned to Master before. He helped me eliminate most of the stagnation in my body," Mr. Grant nodded in response.

Stagnation? Ethan couldn't help but wonder. They actually referred to the black energy inside Mr. Grant's body as stagnation. What was this all about?

"Indeed, heroes emerge in their youth. May I know how to address you, young practitioner?" Master KuYi asked amiably.

"Ethan, the master is too kind! I only have a few tricks up my sleeve, it was just a stroke of luck!" Ethan didn't know why, but he had a strong dislike for this big monk. Even though the monk appeared harmless, he always made Ethan feel uncomfortable.

However, he couldn't pinpoint exactly what the problem was.

"The young man, Master KuYi, is a highly respected monk from Mount Wutai's Famensi Temple. Last night, Master KuYi came to me and asked about you," Mr. Grant explained with a smile.

"Is there anything that the disciple can do for the master?" Ethan asked cautiously, keeping his guard up as he stared at KuYi.

"Don't be nervous, young Tang. The old monk means no harm. I just want to see how this young hero, who helped Norman relieve his stagnant qi, truly is!" KuYi seemed to sense Ethan's resistance and couldn't help but laugh.

"May I ask, what is stagnant qi?" Ethan furrowed his brows and asked.

“Don’t you know? That's okay, you're still young, Tang. Stagnant qi is like the stagnant energy in the world. It can be seen as a lack of vitality. People affected by stagnant qi slowly have their life force drained and destroyed by it, eventually leading to their death!

KuYi was surprised for a moment but then immediately explained the origin of stagnant qi.

"Lifelessness? How did this kind of lifelessness get into Mr. Grant's body?" Ethan's confusion grew even stronger upon hearing this.
