Chapter 109 Beverly's Reminder
Chloe instantly felt a sense of relief.
She understood Ethan's words. If Clarence publicly accepted Ethan now, he’d definitely face opposition from certain members of the Harris family, making it difficult to help Ethan in the future.
By maintaining some distance on the surface, they could still maintain a private relationship. That way, Clarence could still help Ethan a lot without challenging the Harris family's limits.
Currently, Ethan didn't really need the Harris family’s genuine support.
As for whether the one in Houston would accept him in the future, it depended his performance and development.
On Chloe's side, she already understood Ethan and Clarence’s situation, but Sarah was still completely clueless.
Clarence’s attitude at the lunch table made her feel uneasy.
After Chloe and the others left, she went straight to his room to clear things up.
“Grandpa, why do I feel like you're distancing yourself from Ethan? Didn't you want to give him a chance and let the Harris family help him?” she went straight to the point and asked while pouting.
“Sarah, do you think I'm heartless?” Clarence immediately noticed his granddaughter's thoughts, putting down his book and asking.
“Promise me you won’t be angry if I reply honestly, okay? I really feel like you're being a bit heartless! This time, not only did he help Shine Group, but he also saved me. This isn’t just a favor for me, but also a debt the Harris family now owes him.” Sarah hesitated for a moment, but still expressed her thoughts.
Clarence sighed with a helplessly, “Silly girl, what kind of person do you think I am? I don’t have a choice in certain things, either.”
“Did someone from Houston say something to you?” Sarah immediately asked, suspicious.
“Girl, tell me the truth. Have you fallen for Ethan?” Unexpectedly, he suddenly changed the subject and asked with a change of tone.
“Grandpa, what nonsense are you talking about? How could I possibly like Ethan? If it weren't for Chloe, I would’ve ignored him!” Sarah blushed, speaking with clear dissatisfaction.
No matter how anyone saw it, she was clearly a bit guilty!
Clarence sighed involuntarily. “Okay, so it’s all for Chloe! She's returning home soon, right?”
Hearing this, Sarah turned sorrowful, as if feeling sorry for Chloe.
They had discussed this matter in their room a few days prior to dinner.
After taking Chloe back to the company, Ethan planned to accompany her there for a while. However, he suddenly received a message.
It was an unfamiliar number, but he immediately recognized the sender.
This number was the same one that warned him about Mike’s ambush at his villa before this!
The message was simple; it only sent the address of a café.
After bidding Chloe farewell, Ethan left and immediately drove to the given address.
In an ordinary café in the city center, he saw a familiar figure sitting at a corner booth.
With sunglasses and a sun hat, nobody would’ve recognized her if they weren’t familiar with her. However, Ethan immediately knew who she was. It was Beverly!
“You don’t seem surprised.” Beverly slowly said, seeing Ethan calmly sitting across from her.
“There's nothing to be surprised about. In fact, I didn't know who else besides you would help me at that time.” he shook his head indifferently, and the atmosphere fell silent.
“Since you guessed it was me, aren't you curious why I called you out?” Beverly asked, seeing him staying silent for a bit.
Ethan kindly reminded, “You obviously called me for a reason. If you don't intend to tell me, I won't ask. Perhaps you shouldn't have risked meeting me right now.”
Beverly was speechless upon this, taking her a while before continuing, “Tim, that idiot, never thoroughly studied Cloud Group's business. However, I'm different from him. Don't you think you should explain something to me?”
Ethan replied without confirming or denying, “What should I explain? Do I have to say anything to the Wilson family’s people?”
“RP Investments belongs to you, right? That company funds and operates almost all of Cloud Group's major overseas projects. If it weren't for the chaos you pulled in Seattle, I wouldn't have noticed this so quickly. Anyway, turns out you already prepared for the worst, huh?”
Beverly couldn't help but feel annoyed. She had been so open and honest, but Ethan didn't seem to care. After all, it wasn’t like she owed him anything.
“You're smarter than I imagined! I won't deny that. But I know you didn't call me out just to tell me what you discovered, right?” Ethan stared at Beverly and questioned.
“I just wanted to remind you that Vincent is here. He's even more difficult and unpredictable to handle than Mike, so you’d better be careful. Also, I don't know how long I can stay at Cloud Group, but as long as I'm there, no one from the Wilsons will know out about this. However, if Brady doesn't trust me, then that's a different story.” Beverly looked helpless and frustrated as she explained what she wanted to say, while Ethan feigned indifference.
“What if I tell you I don't care at all? Did you think you were the one suitable to take over Cloud Group? Nonetheless, thanks for your concern. Next time, don't do something dangerous like this again!” Under her surprised gaze, Ethan lightly chuckled and stood up before leaving the café.
“What kind of person is he? He won’t even listen to my kind advice. If he dies, then serves him right!” Beverly grunted, clearly angry as she watched his receding figure.
After leaving the café, Ethan got into his car and went straight back to the villa.
While driving, he received another message from the same number.
This time, it provided detailed information about Vincent, making Ethan squint his eyes with slight shock.
After thinking for a moment, he directly forwarded the message to Alexander.
Since the Wilson family had made a move, he had to respond as well.
Just as he arrived at the villa’s entrance, Hannah’s house door opened.
Camila ran out of the gate and pounced on Ethan, “Daddy Wilson!”
Hearing the title she gave him, Ethan was helpless. It seemed that because of the previous incident, she had developed a strange trust and attachment toward him.
Hannah followed closely behind, her face flustered as she looked somewhat guilty.
