Chapter 472 Both So Stubborn
The Wilson family? Yeah, they looked all calm and collected, but it was all a front. Especially when it came to Ethan and Jessie coming back, everyone had their own little schemes going on.
Ethan's best bet right now? The Shadow Gang. Way more reliable than anything else. Plus, Elmer had his back.
"So, aren't you worried Brady might've just thrown down the gauntlet?" Ethan and Elmer were strolling at the front, and Elmer casually tossed out the question.
"If he's got the stones, let him bring it. And seriously, isn't it kinda lame to say that to my face? You’re the one who wants me to go toe-to-toe with Brady, right? Don’t push me, man," Ethan shot Elmer a side-eye, clearly annoyed.
"What makes you think that?" Elmer chuckled.
"Oh, come on. Those losers in the welcoming party? Totally your doing," Ethan smirked coldly.
Elmer didn’t even bother denying it, just shrugged like he couldn’t care less about Ethan’s opinion. Some things just had to be done.
"Know why I picked the Shadow Gang?" Ethan suddenly switched gears.
"Yeah, you want me to keep them safe," Elmer glanced back at Chloe and the others, nodding.
The Wilson family had two masters: Brady and Elmer. So, it made sense for Elmer to be the bodyguard.
"Can I trust you?" Ethan raised an eyebrow.
"You’ve already made your choice, haven’t you? Besides, they don’t look like they need me babysitting them," Elmer chuckled.
Ethan just laughed, shook his head, and let it go.
Soon enough, they reached the Shadow Gang's base.
This spot was off-limits, tucked away in the northwest corner of the Wilson Villa. Only Shadow Gang members, a few council elders, and the Wilson family's martial artists could get in. Regular Wilson family members, even Ethan back in the day, had never set foot here.
"So, this is the Shadow Gang HQ? Meh, kinda underwhelming," Ethan pouted as they stepped into the council hall.
Honestly, the legendary Shadow Gang was a letdown. The hall’s architecture was kinda cool, but nothing to write home about.
Maybe Ethan was comparing it to the secret realm of Tiger Mount, or maybe his standards had just shot up after seeing that place.
Elmer’s face was hidden under his mask, so who knows what he was thinking. He just gave Ethan a helpless look.
"I’ve got the rooms ready. The courtyard out back is all set for you guys. They can crash there," Elmer pointed towards the side door.
"Alright, my crew’s on your turf now, so their safety’s on you. If anything goes south, don’t blame me for causing a ruckus," Ethan chuckled, heading towards the side door.
Stepping out of the council hall, the view opened up to a separate courtyard.
Chloe and the gang were instantly hooked by the view, all oohing and aahing.
"When we get a chance, I'll show you Tiger Mount. This place is kinda meh, right, Alice?" Ethan looked unimpressed. With Tiger Mount as his benchmark, this spot just didn't cut it.
Alice, the only one who'd been to Tiger Mount with Ethan, nodded. "Yeah, compared to that, this is nothing."
Elmer, clearly fed up, said, "I'll be outside. Holler if you need anything," and walked off, sounding a bit salty.
"Is he bummed out?" Ethan blinked, watching Elmer leave, then chuckled.
"Well, duh. Show some respect on his turf," Chloe nudged Ethan.
"Turf? Shadow Gang's part of the Wilson family. I'm about to be the head honcho. Shouldn't this be my turf?" Ethan grumbled.
"Then stop whining about your own stuff," Sarah rolled her eyes.
"Good point. Maybe when I'm in charge, I'll just tear down the Wilson Villa and rebuild it," Ethan mused, realizing she had a point.
Chloe and the others just shook their heads, speechless at Ethan's serious face.
"What about Jessie? Does she know we're here?" Trevor, who'd been quiet, finally spoke up.
"Chill. If my mom shows up, the Shadow Gang will guide her. No need to stress," Ethan shrugged. If Elmer couldn't handle that, he was useless.
Turns out, Ethan and Elmer were on the same wavelength. They hadn't talked it out, but everything from Elbert's situation to room arrangements was just understood.
Meanwhile, Jessie was on a mountainside, staring at the winding road. This place brought back a flood of memories.
"Where are you? Did you vanish, or did someone replace you?" she muttered, her resolve hardening. She had to find Matthew, dead or alive.
"I know you're here. No need to hide, come out," she said calmly as a breeze brushed her cheek.
"Jessie, I knew you'd come here after coming back," Brady appeared behind her, walking slowly.
"A lot started here. I need answers," Jessie didn't even turn around, speaking calmly.
"I know you suspect me. I'll say it again: Matthew is dead, and I had nothing to do with it," Brady sighed, sounding sincere.
"I only trust what I see. When I left, he was alive. I'll find out what happened. You don't need to explain to me. Convince Ethan, not me," Jessie turned, giving Brady a cold reminder.
"You and Ethan are both so stubborn," Brady shook his head, smiling bitterly.
"After the head's succession ceremony, we're going to the Wilson family cemetery," Jessie said, ignoring Brady's shocked look, and walked back towards the Wilson Villa without looking back.
