Chapter 279 Information on the Harris Family
Chloe suddenly brought up Lyra, which made Ethan feel a bit guilty. Even though he was forced into a compromising situation with Lyra yesterday, he still took advantage of her!
"What did Lyra tell you?" Ethan asked, eyes wide.
"She mentioned you pretending to be her boyfriend. Apparently, you're supposed to take her to a suitor's birthday party tomorrow as her boyfriend," Chloe said, raising an eyebrow.
"It was a complete misunderstanding. I just happened to see Hubert bugging her on the street yesterday and went over to check on her. She used me as an excuse; I was passive in all this!" Ethan quickly explained.
"Agreeing to go to Hubert's birthday party wasn't passive. Are you enjoying being her boyfriend? Be honest, do you have any feelings for Lyra?" Chloe, gathering some unexpected courage and grabbed a certain sensitive part of Ethan as if interrogating him.
"What? No way! I'm only interested in Hubert. Do you know he's Roy's son? You remember Roy, right?" Ethan exclaimed, feeling wronged, and quickly explained the relationship between Roy and Hubert.
"Are you talking about the general manager of Zenith Group?" Chloe asked, surprised.
"Exactly. Luckily, I had already looked into Roy's background and knew he had a son. Otherwise, I wouldn't have recognized Hubert yesterday!" Ethan nodded quickly.
"Hubert is pursuing Lyra? Could it be because of the Miller family?" Chloe frowned.
"Not necessarily. Both Hubert and Lyra are just students. I don't think Roy would go so far as to involve Hubert in any schemes. Hubert simply wants to pursue Lyra." Ethan shook his head dismissively.
"Regardless, I need to warn Lyra to be cautious, just in case," Chloe said, still worried.
"Do you think Hubert would dare do anything to her with me at the party tomorrow?" Ethan confidently reminded her.
"Are you planning to cause trouble tomorrow?" Chloe immediately understood Ethan's intention.
"Do you think he invited me for anything good? He's probably planning something against me. I'm more interested in seeing Roy's reaction when he finds out." Ethan chuckled.
"Roy will definitely attend Hubert's birthday party. You won't be able to hide your identity." Chloe nodded thoughtfully.
"I never planned to hide it. First, to make Hubert back off and stay away from Lyra, and second, to see Roy's reaction. It's a win-win." Ethan had always suspected Roy of having some hidden agenda. Given this opportunity to interact again, he wouldn't miss it.
"Make sure to protect Lyra tomorrow!" Chloe reminded him, still worried.
"You're not worried about me taking advantage of Lyra now?" Ethan teased with a smile.
"You wouldn't dare! With Sarah and me, isn't that enough for you? If you mess with any other woman, I will kick your ass!" Chloe warned fiercely, waving her fist.
"Threatening me? I need to teach you a lesson!" Ethan flipped Chloe over and pinned her down, starting a new round of their pleasure!
The next morning, Ethan originally wanted to sleep with Chloe and have some intimate time. Unfortunately, around nine, Carlos called him, saying there was something Ethan needed to attend to.
"Since Carlos wants you back, you should go. Just drop me off at the Miller family. We're heading back to Novaria tomorrow, and I need to spend time with Grandpa!"
Chloe thoughtfully helped Ethan straighten his clothes, looking every bit the gentle and virtuous wife.
"Alright, I'll finish up here and then go say goodbye to your grandpa. I'll come find you a bit later," Ethan said softly, giving Chloe a light kiss on the forehead.
After dropping Chloe off at the Miller family, Ethan drove back to the Harris family and headed straight to Carlos' study. Inside, Carlos and Clarence were having coffee. When they saw Ethan come in, both had a hint of a smile in their eyes.
"Why are you two staring at me like that? If you have something to say, say it. You're making me nervous!" Ethan said, feeling a bit exasperated.
"Be honest. Did you mess around with Chloe last night?" Carlos asked with a teasing scold.
Ethan blushed. "You didn't have someone spying on me, did you?"
"Do we need to? Last night, I talked to Percival, and he mentioned that Chloe didn't come home and went out with you. It's not hard to figure out what you two were up to all night." Clarence huffed, clearly displeased. Although he knew the relationship between Ethan, Chloe, and Sarah, he still felt uncomfortable.
Hearing this, Ethan felt even more embarrassed and decided not to argue.
"Got nothing to say, huh? Sit down and let's talk," Carlos said, breaking the tension with a smile.
"You didn't call me back just to ask about this, did you?" Ethan asked with a bitter smile as he sat down, feeling a bit uneasy due to his guilty conscience.
"You asked us to investigate Roy and Zenith Group, right? I've found some information, though I'm not sure if it'll be helpful to you," Carlos explained seriously.
"Oh? What is it?" Ethan said, perking up.
"I just found out that in the past few days, Roy has been acquiring a batch of rare minerals through various channels at high prices. Given your previous suspicions and the mysterious lab at Zenith Group, it's pretty clear that Roy is secretly researching these minerals," Carlos said, handing a document to Ethan.
Ethan looked at the document for a while, his expression growing more peculiar. "Some of these rare minerals contain radioactive substances harmful to humans. What's he researching this for?"
"We don't know the specifics, but we can be sure that Dorian is behind it. This research is definitely top secret; otherwise, they wouldn't be so secretive about it," Carlos reminded him seriously.
"Minerals? Are they trying to find some special substance in these minerals?" Ethan pondered for a moment, his gaze suddenly falling on the pendant around his neck.
The Moon Bead and Sun Bead he had could certainly be considered rare. He wasn't sure if they were minerals, but they were definitely unique. The miraculous effects these two beads had on him accelerated his superhuman abilities far beyond other warriors.
Ethan broke out in a cold sweat, pondering, 'Are they really after these two beads I possessed?'
"Ethan, did anything occur to you?" Carlos asked, frowning at Ethan's dark expression.
"Nothing. I just found it quite peculiar. Carlos, could you continue to keep an eye on this lead for me?" Ethan shook his head slowly. He wasn't about to share his unproven suspicions just yet.
