Chapter 120 Overwhelming Force

As Ethan Wilson read Chloe Miller’s letter, she and Greg were already en route to the airport. Glancing at the bustling streets of Novaria, the familiar scenes fading from her view, Chloe felt as if her heart was withering away.

“Ethan Wilson... I’m sorry! Forget about me, you’ll find someone better!” she whispered to herself, her voice barely audible over her tears.

Greg, sitting in the passenger seat, heard the commotion from the back. His face bore an expression of helpless resignation as he sighed deeply. He felt for Chloe but knew there was nothing he could do. Perhaps this was for the best, for both her and Ethan Wilson.

Clutching her phone, Chloe composed a text message through tear-filled eyes but hesitated to send it. In the end, she sent a message to Sarah and then turned her phone off completely.

At that moment, the car screeched to a halt, causing Chloe, seated in the back, to lurch forward and hit her head against the seatback. Thankfully, the car wasn’t moving fast, and she wasn’t seriously hurt.

“Miss, are you alright?” Greg’s face paled as he quickly checked on Chloe, relieved to find her unharmed. But his relief was short-lived as his gaze turned to the road ahead, darkening instantly.

A large truck had blocked their path, and several cars had surrounded them on both sides. “Greg, what’s happening?” Chloe asked, her face a picture of bewilderment.

Before she could get an answer, a group of menacing figures emerged from the vehicles and made a beeline for their car. “Lock the doors, protect Miss Miller!” Greg instructed the driver before stepping out and closing the door behind him.

Several meters back, a Porsche Cayenne was parked by the roadside. Inside, Andrew Johnson and Jayden Wilson watched the unfolding scene. “Good thing we tracked down this woman’s info and knew she was flying to LA today, otherwise she might have slipped away!” Andrew sneered with a malicious grin.

“Won’t this cause trouble? Isn’t there a more discreet way to handle this?” Jayden frowned, clearly worried. Abducting someone in broad daylight could draw too much attention and potentially lead the police right to them.

“Relax, the people I hired are ruthless. They’re only in it for the money and don’t know who I am,” Andrew reassured him with a dismissive wave.

Andrew’s henchmen were about to close in on Chloe’s car when suddenly, they were all taken down by a mysterious figure. None could get up again. A gaunt old man stood near Chloe’s car; it was clear he was responsible for the takedown. The event was so sudden and shocking that no one saw how he did it.

“How... how could that old man be so powerful?” Andrew shivered, only to freeze as the old man turned his head to look directly at him. A chill ran down Andrew’s spine, and he quickly started the car, fearing the old man might come for him next. He sped away without looking back, unaware that Greg had already noted his license plate.

“Trace this car! Take down their entire operation!” Greg commanded into his phone with a stony expression, then hung up without another word. If Andrew Johnson knew the catastrophe he had just brought upon The Johnson Family, one could only imagine his reaction.

After ensuring Chloe’s safety, Greg didn’t bother with the fallen men; he simply got back in the car and instructed the driver to continue to the airport.

“Greg, who were those people?” Chloe finally found a moment to ask.

“Not sure. But clearly, they were after you. Novaria is too dangerous now; it seems going back to LA is the right choice,” Greg replied with a calm yet meaningful tone.

Chloe’s face paled as she picked up on the implication. She suspected that this ambush might be connected to Ethan Wilson, and if she could guess that, so could Greg.

“Maybe it’s better this way. If I stay, I might become a target, a liability to him,” she mused with a self-deprecating smile.

Back at the company, Ethan Wilson was oblivious to the danger Chloe had just faced because of him, and he certainly didn’t know that a simple phone call from Greg had inadvertently resolved the issue with The Johnson Family.

For now, Ethan was lost in the words of Chloe’s letter, sinking into a deep silence.

“Why are you taking so long to read Chloe’s short letter?” Sarah eventually grew impatient and asked.

The letter was brief, with just a few short sentences:

“Ethan Wilson, I’m sorry. My grandfather is unwell, and I need to go home to take care of him. I didn’t want to face the pain of saying goodbye, so I didn’t tell you in advance, nor did I want you to see me off. I didn’t mean to keep this from you. Please forgive me. Take good care of the company. With your capabilities, by the time I return, our company will surely be the biggest in Novaria, right?”

It was unmistakably Chloe’s handwriting. Though they hadn’t known each other long, Ethan recognized her script instantly. If what she said was true, why didn’t she just tell him? Why turn off her phone?

“See for yourself. I need some peace,” Ethan handed the letter to Sarah and leaned back on the sofa, closing his eyes.

“Chloe asked you to help her grow the company, and you’re planning to sleep on it?” Sarah said after reading the letter, her tone a mix of teasing and concern.

“Tell me the truth, is there something you’re hiding from me?” Ethan suddenly looked at Sarah, his gaze intense.

“Is that how you talk to a criminal? If you don’t trust me, surely you trust Chloe?” Sarah’s face darkened at the accusation.

Ethan’s expression softened, “Sorry, I’m just frustrated. I didn’t mean to snap at you. I’m going for a walk.”

With that, he left the office, leaving Sarah in a state of surprise.
