Chapter 227 Ethan, the Scumbag
When the two of them were alone, Ethan could feel the same pure emotions they had back in Novaria. It was just the two of them, without any interference from others or family matters, simply their mutual affection.
Chloe was the type who didn't talk much. When they were together, if Ethan didn't speak, she would also remain silent.
It wasn't that she wasn't lively, but Chloe hoped that whatever she said would get a response from the other person. Only in such situations would she speak freely.
"I can go back by myself. Why do you have to take me? Alice just arrived in Everglow City; shouldn't you spend more time with her?" While sitting in the passenger seat, Chloe brought up Alice on her own.
Ethan, who was pondering how to start the conversation, sighed inwardly. Whatever he wanted to say, she already knew!
"Chloe, Alice, and I are just friends! Don't listen to Sarah's nonsense!" Ethan explained earnestly.
"Sarah might talk nonsense, but Alice wouldn't joke about something like this, right? Doesn't she like you?" Chloe's question left Ethan momentarily speechless.
"No matter how you feel about her, at the very least, she came to Everglow City to help you. Even if she's just a friend, you should treat her well, right?" Chloe looked at Ethan calmly and reminded him.
Ethan didn't expect Chloe to be so nonchalant. He thought, 'People say women can be irrationally obsessive about their feelings, but why is Chloe the exact opposite?'
He could understand Chloe's tolerance towards Sarah, but her calm demeanor towards Alice made him uneasy!
He pondered, 'If a woman doesn't care about you being with other women, there are only two possibilities. The first is that the woman is crazy, and the second is that she no longer loves you! If she doesn't love you anymore, why would she care?'
"Chloe, why are you like this? Don't you get angry or jealous?" Ethan took a deep breath and voiced his confusion.
"The person who truly has the right to be angry should be Sarah. Strictly speaking, I am more like the third party between you and Sarah. Do I even have the right to be angry?" Chloe smiled and asked in return. In fact, she didn't know how to explain either, so this inappropriate analogy was the only way to do so.
This thought of being the third party had started to grow the day she had a heart-to-heart with Sarah.
And on Sarah's side, it was the same. Through a series of misunderstandings, neither girl placed herself in the position of the main partner, leading to a relatively harmonious situation now.
After listening to Chloe, Ethan fell silent. With his intelligence, he naturally understood the intricacies immediately!
He didn't expect to benefit so much from this situation or exploit such a loophole, and he didn't expect to manage the feelings between Chloe and Sarah harmoniously.
In fact, he hadn't done anything at all!
"I'm sorry, Chloe. I'm such a jerk!" After a moment of silence, a sense of guilt made Ethan felt like he wanted to disappear.
"Many things aren't about right or wrong. This outcome may be good. If one day you and Sarah walk down the aisle, I will silently bless you both!" Chloe smiled and shook her head.
"What do you mean by that? You don't want to be with me anymore?" Ethan's heart suddenly tightened, and he slammed on the brakes, stopping the car by the roadside.
"That day at Fragrant Garden, Sarah said she had a perfect solution. When I first heard it, I thought it was absurd and that she must be crazy! But later, I slowly came to understand that maybe she was right!" Chloe looked at Ethan's surprised expression and slowly shook her head.
"What kind of absurd solution?" Ethan's face turned peculiar.
"She said that as long as I don't stop her, she's willing to be your lover for life! These past few days, I've suddenly agreed with her idea because I have the same thoughts. If she's willing, I can also be your lover for life," Chloe stared directly at Ethan with her beautiful eyes and explained.
Hearing this, Ethan felt even more burdened than relieved. He hadn't expected Sarah to say such things to Chloe, nor had he expected Chloe to have such thoughts.
He wondered what virtues and talents he possessed to make these two outstanding girls so willing to sacrifice for him. Compared to them, Ethan only felt like a philandering rogue!
"Alright, don't overthink it. If you really feel guilty, treat us better in the future, and don't go flirting with other women! We may be generous, but that doesn't mean we want more women to share you!" Chloe seemed to sense Ethan's heavy thoughts and suddenly squeezed his big hand, gently reminding him.
"I won't. I already feel guilty enough towards you two; what right do I have to flirt with other women?" Ethan quickly shook his head with a bitter smile.
"Alright, but who knows about feelings? Can you say you'll never be attracted to another woman? And Alice, who knows?"
Chloe snorted noncommittally.
Ethan really wanted to swear an oath, but did he even have the right to do so now?
Entangled with two girls and still promising loyalty to love—it sounded like a lie. Even the gods would probably despise him!
"Alright, hurry up and take me back!" Chloe urged with a smile.
"Why do you have to go back? Why not stay at the hotel tonight?" Ethan restarted the car and asked tentatively.
"No way. Isn't having Sarah with you enough? I need to go back to be with my grandpa! Besides, if my parents find out I didn't come home and stay with you, they'd be furious!" Chloe snorted, but it was clear that the last point was her biggest concern!
Ethan silently cursed himself for being too selfish, not considering Chloe's perspective at all.
He thought, 'Indeed, as a daughter facing Munro and Cherry, she is undoubtedly the most uncomfortable and awkward. It seems I need to find a way to smooth things over with my future in-laws!'
After dropping Chloe off at the Miller family, Ethan promised to pick her up the next morning and then drove his car back to the hotel.
On the way, he suddenly received a call from Clarence.
"Dorian has shown no signs of compromise. We offered to buy Skyline Center for 3 billion dollars, and he still refused!" Clarence updated Ethan on the latest progress made in the negotiation.
"How's Lucien doing in the hospital?" Ethan asked with a cheerful tone.
"The show has been played out enough. He broke his hand in front of everyone and then left. At this point, there's no point in holding Lucien accountable. Now, it all depends on Dorian. What exactly are you planning? Are you just going to drag this out?" Clarence asked impatiently.
"Don't worry! Let Isolde stay in the hospital for a few more days; it's fine. I promise to return Isolde to you afterward. The key is to get Skyline Center. Since he won't sell it for 3 billion dollars, we can save a lot of money! With those 3 billion dollars, can't I buy more coal?" Ethan chuckled indifferently.
