Chapter 220 Percival Was Infuriated
Phoenix remained noncommittal about Ethan's words and didn't dwell on the issue.
"That's all I have to say. I have said what should be said, and I can't say what shouldn't be said. Ethan, if you have time, you can come to Misty Ridge. I'll be leaving now!" Phoenix informed while he suddenly changed the subject.
"You're leaving Everglow City?" Ethan inquired and was a bit surprised upon hearing this.
Or rather, he felt more reluctant. Phoenix had been safeguarding him incessantly these past few days. Although he might not be of much use in general situations, at least he could ensure that master-level individuals wouldn't dare to make a move against him!
Once Phoenix left, if someone like Dorian, decided to kill him, it would be really hard for him to defend himself!
"I've been out for a while; it's time to go back! Ethan, take my advice and leave Everglow City for Novaria within a month. If you still have doubts, you can come see me on your way back, and we can have a good chat!" Phoenix urged as he nodded with a smile.
"I'll leave once I've finished what I need to do. Since you are returning to Misty Ridge, I can only wish you a safe journey!" Ethan said politely, but he was pondering what Phoenix meant.
He thought, 'Why does he specifically ask me to leave Everglow City within a month? What would happen if I don't leave after a month?'
Seeing Phoenix's demeanor, Ethan knew that even if he asked, Phoenix wouldn't say more, so he didn't bother to ask.
Phoenix left as soon as he said he would, his departing figure exuding a sense of detachment from the world.
Although Phoenix had shown goodwill to him several times and even helped him, Ethan always felt a sense of discord. He had a hunch that he might stand against Phoenix in the future!
It wasn't until Phoenix's figure completely disappeared from his sight that Ethan took a deep breath and turned to leave.
When he got back to the car, Clarence didn't ask anything, but Sarah couldn't help but ask what they had talked about.
Ethan naturally would not mention Celestia Vale. He didn't even understand it himself, so there was nothing to say. He just brushed it off and complained that Phoenix was being mysterious and wouldn't reveal anything.
Sarah pouted, clearly not believing him, but since Ethan didn't say anything, she lost interest in asking further.
"You deliberately provoked Dorian just to make Phoenix come out?" Clarence said as he finally found an opportunity to ask.
"Not exactly. I still don't understand why he's helping me. Or rather, I was testing his limits. But this time, I went too far, and he left directly!" Ethan explained while he shook his head with a bitter smile.
Clarence was speechless.
At that moment, Ethan's phone suddenly rang. It was Chloe calling.
Ethan answered the call without hesitation.
"Ethan, where are you?" Chloe's voice came through the phone, sounding unusual.
"What's going on? Are you still at Fragrant Garden?" Ethan frowned and asked instead of answering.
"It's nothing major. My grandfather and I returned to the Miller family this morning. If you have time, can you come over?" Chloe asked hesitantly.
"No problem, I'll be right there!" Ethan agreed immediately.
"Did something happen to Chloe?" Sarah, beside him, inquired and also became nervous.
"No, she said she and Percival have returned to the Miller family and just asked me to come over. I don't know what's going on!" Ethan replied as he shook his head, frowning.
"Then let's go quickly. We'll take you to the Miller family first!" Clarence urgently remarked and immediately instructed the driver to start the car. Half an hour later, Ethan arrived at the Miller family's estate.
Compared to the hustle and bustle of yesterday, today, the Miller family's estate was much quieter, with no one in sight at the gate.
"I won't go in. You two be careful and call me if anything happens," Clarence advised Ethan and Sarah before dropping them off at the gate. After Clarence left, they looked at the tightly closed gate.
"What's going on? Percival came back today, so it should be lively. Why is the gate closed? Is everyone inside?" she remarked, doubtfully. Sarah frowned as she looked at the closed gate.
"Never mind. Let's knock first," Ethan said as he was about to knock on the door, but it unexpectedly opened from the inside.
Lyra came out from behind the door.
"Ethan, Sarah, you're finally here! Chloe asked me to bring you in," Lyra said with a sigh of relief as she led them inside.
"What happened?" Ethan asked with a frown.
"It's about Chloe and Kenny's engagement. Aunt Cherry had another argument with Grandpa," Lyra explained helplessly.
Ethan and Sarah exchanged a glance with one another. They both thought Cherry was indeed difficult to deal with!
Didn't Percival already settle the marriage issue at Fragrant Garden yesterday?
Soon, Lyra led them to the main hall.
Munro, Cherry, and Merrick were all present, as were Percival and Chloe. However, the atmosphere in the living room was tense, and everyone's expressions were grim.
As soon as Lyra led Ethan and Sarah into the room, Cherry, who looked upset, immediately stood up and scolded, "Lyra, who told you to bring them in?"
Lyra was startled and looked at Chloe with a face full of grievance.
"Mom, I asked Lyra to bring them in," Chloe explained, stepping forward to take responsibility.
"What's all the fuss about? I'm not dead yet! I asked Chloe to call Ethan. If you don't like it, you can leave!" Percival, sitting in the main seat, snorted coldly.
"Dad, how can you say that? I know you care about Chloe, but do you think I would harm her? The marriage with the Ashford family was agreed upon long ago. If we break off the engagement now, won't the Miller family be seen as untrustworthy?" Cherry said anxiously.
"Dad, Cherry is also thinking about the Miller family. Over the years, the Miller family and the Ashford family have collaborated on many business ventures. If we sever ties with them now, it would be disastrous for us, and the losses would be significant," Munro said, trying to persuade Percival.
It was clear that Cherry and Munro had not given up on the marriage with the Ashford family!
Yesterday at Fragrant Garden, it wasn't the right place to argue, especially in front of so many Miller family apprentices, so they didn't argue as much. But today, they were clearly not going to compromise easily on this issue!
"You caused this mess, and you have the nerve to make Chloe bear the responsibility? When did the Miller family and the Ashford family start collaborating on business? How come I don't know about it?" Percival's face grew even darker as he snorted coldly at them.
"Wasn't it when you were sick?" Munro explained helplessly.
"I was sick, but I wasn't dead! You two went behind my back and arranged Chloe's marriage! Do you even respect me?" Percival slammed the table and shouted angrily.
