Chapter 174 The Reappearance of a Graceful Figure
Soon, Cherry returned and handed a delicate rosewood box to Munro.
"The thing is for you. Figure out how to use it. I'll go check on Chloe now."
Cherry said and went straight to Chloe's room.
Although the sudden critical illness of Grandpa made Cherry anxious and annoyed, she thought that this might be a good way to make Chloe compromise.
"Chloe, open the door. I have something important to tell you!"
Knocking on Chloe's door, Cherry straightforwardly said.
"I don't want to say anything. You can arrange everything however you want without my consent. There's nothing more to say!" Chloe didn't give Cherry any face and remained secluded behind closed doors.
"I need to tell you about your grandfather's situation. He suddenly became critically ill this afternoon and almost passed away! Don't you want to know about his condition?" Cherry mentioned Rodolfo's critical condition, which perhaps was the only thing that could stir Chloe's emotions.
As expected, after a while, the door opened.
"How is grandfather?" Although Chloe tried her best to appear indifferent, her eyes looked worried.
"He's temporarily alright, but there is always a danger. You should understand that he loves you the most. You also know that the Miller family is your grandfather's lifelong passion. Even if it's for your grandfather and Kenny's marriage, you must accept it! Perhaps getting engaged could bring some joy to your grandfather and help him get through this situation!" Cherry warned with emphasis.
"I want to see grandfather. Let me see him!" Chloe became anxious upon hearing this. Right now, she only wanted to see her grandfather and confirm his condition.
"He was critically ill today, just barely out of danger. He is still in Fragrant Garden and no one except the doctors can visit him at the moment. When he stabilizes in a few days, I can arrange for you to see him, but it has to be after your engagement!" Cherry's words clearly carried some sense of coercion. Chloe suddenly widened her eyes and looked at her mother in disbelief.
"You don't need to look at me like that. There's no discussion about this matter. If you want to see your grandfather, you must go through with the engagement. I'm doing this for your own good and for the sake of the Miller family, for the good of your grandfather! You need to understand your mother's good intentions!" Cherry directly stated without caring about her daughter's disappointed gaze.
"Good intentions? Yes, you really do have good intentions! I'm tired. If there's nothing else, please leave. I want to sleep!" Chloe smiled bitterly and didn't give Cherry the chance to speak again. She directly closed the door.
"Bring some food for Miss Chloe !" Cherry instructed the maid who was cleaning nearby. Then, she spoke towards Chloe's room, "You can choose not to eat, but do you really not want to see your grandfather? Perhaps this will be the last time!"
After saying those words, Cherry heartlessly walked away from her daughter's doorstep without looking back.
Inside the room, Chloe was already in tears.
She didn't understand why God had arranged for her to be born into the Miller family, why she had such parents, and why she had met Ethan!
Perhaps all of this was her fate?
People must face their destiny.
Early the next day, Ethan woke Sarah up.
"I told you this was at the Remingtons' house, and yet you couldn't keep it down. You kept me awake all night!" he said.
Sarah rubbed her sleepy eyes and pouted unhappily.
"Get up quickly. The people in the house will be awake soon, and you probably won't have anywhere to hide your thin face anymore! Besides, today I have time. Weren't you insisting on going shopping with me in Houston?" Ethan said.
It was already the 12th, the only day of free time Ethan had before the engagement banquet on the 15th.
He planned to dedicate the entire day to Sarah. He wanted to accompany Sarah and make her happy for the day, as a way to make up for his guilt.
Even though Ethan knew that this guilt might never be filled no matter what he did, there were some things he had to do.
At least he wanted to be fair to Sarah.
"You want to go shopping with me? Oh yeah!" Sarah exclaimed with joy, jumping out of bed, completely unaware that she was nearly naked.
Sarah had originally planned to stroll through the streets of Houston with Ethan, spend a day in their own little world. But as soon as they arrived at Remington, she had almost given up.
She didn't expect Ethan to give her such a big surprise early in the morning!
After freshening up, Sarah changed into a pink dress and, together with Ethan, went to the yard to greet Remington, who was exercising.
"Ask the driver to take you there. It's difficult to catch a taxi around here!" Remington said when he heard where Ethan and Sarah were going . He called his driver and asked him to drive Ethan and Sarah there in his own car.
Ethan didn't refuse. This heavily guarded military compound was strict in terms of entry and exit. With Remington's car and driver leading the way, it saved him a lot of trouble.
One hour later, Sarah walked hand in arm with Ethan on the famous Street in Houston.
Shopping seemed to be a natural instinct for all wealthy young ladies, and for Sarah, what mattered was what she liked.
However, unlike the last time in Seattle where Sarah went on a crazy shopping spree, today she only followed a policy of window shopping and pulled Ethan to take selfies in every corner of Mansion Street.
Sarah smiled brightly in the photos, revealing her inner joy, which made Ethan feel even more guilty.
He remembered that Chloe seemed to have left behind many beautiful photos before leaving Novaria, and those photos were all in Chloe's phone. Only now did Ethan realize that he didn't even have a single photo with Chloe.
Sarah excitedly took Ethan's phone and changed his screensaver to a selfie of the two of them.
"Keep it for a day. If you want to delete it after today, then go ahead. After all, today Ethan only belongs to me!"
Sarah handed the phone back to Ethan and blinked playfully.
But Ethan felt a sense of suffocation in his heart and suddenly had the urge to slap himself.
Fortunately, he resisted the urge, otherwise he would have become a spectacle in front of everyone!
"Okay, let's not think about unhappy things today. Keep accompanying me for shopping!"
Seemingly sensing what Ethan was thinking, Sarah casually wrapped her arm around his and continued walking along the commercial street.
In a daze, a figure passed by. Ethan suddenly stopped and turned around, but in the crowded crowd, he lost his target.
"What's wrong?"
Sarah noticed that Ethan's expression was off and asked in surprise.
"I... I think I just saw her!"
Ethan's voice trembled. Although he didn't pay attention just now, Ethan did see a woman who looked very similar to Chloe!
"You mean Chloe?"
Surprised, Sarah immediately joined Ethan in searching through the crowd.
