Chapter 438 Cross Christianity
Jayden jumped up like a cat on a hot tin roof the second he saw Elmer stroll in, his face all tense and wary.
He'd run into Elmer a few times before, and the guy always left a mark, making him feel all kinds of uneasy.
"Can you, like, show up like a normal person next time? This is my office, dude. At least knock or something!" Ethan didn't even flinch, clearly knowing Elmer was there before he even showed up, but he still huffed, clearly annoyed.
Jayden couldn't help but twitch his mouth. Even though he knew Elmer was on Ethan's side now, Ethan's cold attitude towards Elmer still threw him for a loop!
"Got a problem with me?" Elmer asked, cool as a cucumber.
"Yeah, big time," Ethan shot back without missing a beat.
"Alright then!" Elmer sighed, looking all kinds of helpless. Then, under Jayden's wide-eyed stare, he walked out, knocked on the door, and came back in.
"Next time, don't just barge in without a heads-up!" Ethan still seemed ticked off and gave him a light reminder.
"Why you gotta be so biased against me?" Elmer smiled, looking a bit bitter.
"Maybe I'll change my mind someday, depends on how you act. Thought you'd be hiding somewhere until I got to Wilson Manor!" Ethan chuckled, dodging a straight answer. After they split at Sunridge, Elmer had gone back to the Wilson family and just popped up today.
"Since I picked you, I'm sticking with it. Don't worry," Elmer said, still all chill.
"Let's hope so. What do you mean they've been scheming together for ages?" Ethan raised an eyebrow, curious.
"You probably guessed it already, so I'm just confirming it. Dashiell and Zephyr have been in cahoots. They're gunning for Brady, and now they're coming for you too!" Elmer explained.
"You sure know a lot. So, are you in on it with Zephyr too?" Ethan stared him down, pressing for answers.
"Yeah, I was. But that was back then. I asked you first, but you turned me down, so I had to go with him. Besides you, he's the best fit for the head of the Wilson family. Logan? Total joke!" Elmer nodded, straight-up honest.
"You're honest, I'll give you that. But honesty ain't enough. As you can see, I'm surrounded by enemies in the Wilson family. At the head succession ceremony in a few days, they might all gang up on me. What can you do to help?" Ethan switched gears, smiling as he eyed Elmer.
"You've got a plan already. Do you really need my help? Honestly, besides killing, there's not much I can do for you. Once you're the head of the Wilson family, I can take out anyone for you, as long as it's doable!" Elmer shook his head, still cool and collected.
"What if I ask you to take out Brady?" Ethan raised an eyebrow, testing him.
Jayden's heart skipped a beat. He didn't see that coming from Ethan!
"I can't beat him!" Elmer answered seriously, catching both Jayden and Ethan off guard.
"Brady's stronger than you?" Ethan asked, eyebrows raised.
"Brady and I threw down twenty years ago. We were both just hitting master level and ended in a draw! After that, he took over the Wilson family, and I ran the Shadow Gang, so we never got a rematch!" Elmer shook his head, explaining.
"A draw twenty years ago, and no scraps since then? How do you know you can't take him now?" Ethan frowned, digging deeper.
"Just a gut feeling. I can't read him. Even back then, when we fought to a draw, I got this sense he was holding back," Elmer explained.
"Did you hold back too?" Ethan pressed.
"Yeah, I did. But I'm sure if we both went all out, he'd come out on top," Elmer said, dead certain.
"To get that kind of respect from you, Brady must be something else," Ethan nodded, thinking it over. He didn't see any reason for Elmer to lie about this.
"Brady's got layers, man. Even after all these years in the Wilson family, I can't figure him out. If you want to take him down, you can't rush it. Unless you can get a grandmaster to take him out in one shot," Elmer advised.
"Forget about him for now. I'm more curious about you. Can you drop that mask? Doesn't it get tiring wearing it all day?" Ethan asked, eyeing Elmer with interest.
"It's just a face, nothing special. I'm used to it," Elmer seemed pretty resistant to the idea.
"How long you been wearing that thing?" Ethan asked again.
"I don't even remember. Probably since I started learning martial arts," Elmer said, all nonchalant.
"You didn't come here for nothing. Spill it, what's up?" Ethan suddenly switched gears.
"Ethan." Beverly popped up at the office door but clammed up when she saw Elmer.
"I got something to handle. You and Jayden head back to the office and wait for me. I'll catch up later," Ethan told Jayden and Beverly.
"Alright, I'll head back first," Jayden nodded and left with Beverly.
"Now, what's the deal?" Ethan raised an eyebrow at Elmer once they were alone.
"Check this out," Elmer said, tossing a black object at Ethan.
Ethan caught it, his face lighting up with surprise.
It was an iron cross, with a weird design—four snake bodies twisted into a cross, each direction ending in a snake head, looking pretty gnarly!
"What is this?"
Ethan asked, frowning. He could feel a slight energy buzz from the iron cross, like it was pushing back against his grip.
This thing had some serious energy vibes!
"A token from Cross Christianity. Every master level in Cross Christianity has one," Elmer explained, still cool as ever.
"Cross Christianity? Where'd you get this?" Ethan was even more surprised and puzzled.
"You're probably wondering what this has to do with us. If I told you I found this in the Wilson family, you'd be even more shocked," Elmer dropped the bombshell.
"The Wilson family? Are you saying someone in the Wilson family is tied to Cross Christianity?" Ethan was genuinely floored by this.
'Cross Christianity has branches all over, super secretive and powerful!
Except for Vexa, almost every country has traces of this sect's activities.
But they're pretty low-key, so not many people know about this mysterious group.
What blew Ethan's mind was that Cross Christianity isn't really a religion, more like a shady organization posing as one. How could someone in the Wilson family be mixed up with them?' Ethan pondered.
